Plan to house Akronís homeless in tiny homes faces big opposition

Is this a good alternative to homelessness is a big city or is it unfair to the neighbors of such a development?

Quote:
Dave Murray is quickly learning that building tiny homes for homeless people is easier than finding somewhere to put them.

The humanitarian envisioned the tiny homes situated in a parking lot behind a vacant funeral home on South Arlington Street. He even made an offer on the previously foreclosed property, which is situated between a Circle K gas station and a pharmacy.

The funeral home, once a restaurant on a busy street now littered with vacant storefronts, would be used as a day center where homeless people could take a shower, receive mail (and have a semi-permanent mailing address) or be put in touch with mental health, addiction and job counseling.

The idea is sound, the big problem is location. No one wants to live near a homeless shelter because of numerous issues they bring with them. And you can't just plop them out in the middle of nowhere and expect them to improve their situation, assuming they're not mentally ill, which many are. Proper long-term mental health and drug facilities are necessary to truly combat the issue.

I was surprised reading about the second proposal for "Tent City" in Middlebury. I drive down Market every single day going to/from downtown and haven't noticed much of a homeless presence in that area. I think that corner where Arlington, Market and Exchange come together has a lot of potential. I've gone to the Dave's right there numerous times. No issues.

The main homeless population I see daily is on Market on the other side of Route 8. There is a set of train tracks with some green space where I notice tents sent up and people milling along Market. I believe that's the "Grace Park" area. Put the Tiny Houses in the Park.

I've always said when the airport expands the runways and they have to buy u a neighborhood then they should sell those homes to deaf people. Runway noise won't bother them.

When cities buy up blighted areas, they should rent those homes to homeless people. A bad neighborhood shouldn't bother the homeless.

Would you be cool with living next to a homeless camp?

The answer to your question is the same.

Yet another example of punishing people who've figured out the relatively simple task of being a functioning member of society, to coddle a group who isn't going to improve their situation no matter how many hand outs they get.

If my memory isn't failing me, I think 'King James' lives in or near Bath,
there is no way the homeless are going near a Bath or a Soap either.
