Avon made the jump because of Coach Elder and a lot of hard working people that shared his vision for a complete program from youth all the way up through the high school ranks...and even beyond, as the former team members tend to keep in touch with the program and vice versa.

Ridgeville can do it, but Iím not sure the current regime can do it. I love their new facility, though.

I think Toledo St. Francis could turn a corner next year. I'm not saying they will win the TRAC but they could push for a playoff spot. The Knights return a big physical running back in Wyse, a three star TE in Carroll (6'5" 230 - Toledo commit), and a great junior WR in Bumphis.

I was amazed last year how they continued to get better and compete. Most teams that start the way they did will get worse as the season goes on as losing becomes acceptable but they did not fold. If they can figure out their line situation and a QB they could push.

I wonder if the Harris kid (6'6" 220), whose brother is a standout DE for Eastern Michigan will come out? There were rumors a while back that he, and fellow hardwood standout in PG Jackie Wells, and the younger Kizer might play football. All three would be huge additions.

North, Ross had two really tough linebackers last year in Schneider and Wood. Do they return?

Caleb wood is one of top 100-150 players in state for 2018 and returns.Garrett Schneider also returns. Schneider and wood are tough kids.I see both going to next level.

I have Ross at 8-2 with only losses to Toledo CC and Whitmer. That would put them in the mix for a home game, while 7-3 would still have them in the mix for a playoff berth.

I also see the Little Giants at 8-2 with losses to Central and Whitmer. Let's just not fall into the trap that a few Ross fans have of over-hyping the Little Giants.

Yeah, I'd say 7-3 more realistic ceiling for Ross. They may be slight or heavy favorites in other 8 games, but gotta figure someone (Sandusky, Lima, SJJ, SFD) will trip them up.

If you can't overhype your own team......

Sounds like it might be a good year to put Fremont/Tacklebox back on my travel itinery. Haven't been to the museum in about ten years. What else to do in Fremont? There was something I had in mind, but it's slipped.

Watch the Ballville Dam come down? There are some big nice cliffs just below the dam and I'm interested to see what it looks like once the dam is removed.

And anyone who has ever been to the Tacklebox always wants to go back. Great place.

As far as football goes Lehman has a cannon. I watched the kid throw the ball 60 yards from his back foot against Southview. As a matter of fact the DB gave up on the WR because he thought there was no way that ball could be coming. It did.

And as far as HS linebackers go I've seen some great ones. I'm not necessarily talking about guys whose size and speed translate to big time D1 college but I'm talking tough hard nosed kids that have a nose for the ball and Wood and Schneider are as good as I've seen. Both are around 6'1" 210 ish and tough as nails. Having both back helps immensely.

An NEO-centric R6 preview. It’s a pretty good preview, though my outlook differs...except at the top, where I see an Avon vs TCC clash for the title.

https://www.cleveland.com/expo/sport...n-swcrich.html

It at least gives good insight to the NEO teams for our friends in NWO.

Can anyone explain what the current lawsuit against OHSAA Conpetitive Balance could mean? If it goes through, they just get rid of competitive balance all together? Effective immediately or next season? What would that do to R6? TCC drops to DIV? Anyone else that would move? The whole thing sounds like it would be a mess.

Lima Sr may take some growing pains this season. My sleeper playoff contender is St. Francis. Everyone is overlooking them I think they will be the mix.

Now that Coach Long's brother is on board on the coaching staff, I would have to think Fremont's Defense could be a significant strength. We shall see.

Fremont’s defense will be their strength this season. It will get a good test tomorrow in a key Region 6 matchup with Springfield. Fremont’s D vs Springfield’s O will be a great game!

That changing anyone's dynamic? Year to year, there tends not to be a lot of competition in the TCL. One team tends to win all the games. A weak and winnable OOC by either Bowsher or Waite and they could sneak into that last spot. Soutwest Conf grabbing four spots? That doable?
NoRo began play in the Suburban League National Division back in, I think, 2014 or 2015. Other members are Hudson, Brecksville, Twinsburg, Nordonia, Stow, Wadsworth, Cuyahoga Falls. The Parma schools are not members of the SL National or American.

Not time to do a full blown prediction post yet. I will probably start that Games of the Week summary stuff after this weekends results, but it is definitely time for a summary of the very early playoff story in the region and early games of impact.

In Week 1, really the only current 0-1 team to discuss is Ross. Their controversial loss to Springfield may cost them a playoff spot, and certainly leaves them with no wiggle room beyond losses to Toledo CC and Whitmer. Of course, Ross beating TCC and/or Whitmer changes the equation. Ross is pretty much in must-win mode already and must beat Sylvania Southview on Friday...and I believe they will do it.

Of the Week 1 winners, the team with big win was obviously Springfield. Toledo CC and Olmsted Falls had solid wins, even though they were expected. Everyone else won as expected, though Bowsher and Waite deserve mention for wins over NLL teams.

The Southwestern Conference, in the NEO part of the region has two big games in North Olmsted at Avon Lake, where I favor AL in a tight one which could make the difference between qualifying for post-season or not for these two teams...and Olmsted Falls at Avon, where the winner has a big leg up on a home playoff game and league championship. Avon was sloppy in Week 1, while Falls was crisp. I will pick Avon, but a Falls win will not shock me.

In NWO, Springfield and Bowsher play what could be a playoff elimination game already. I give the nod to Springfield. I like Anthony Wayne to pick up a solid win over Tiffin Columbian and TCC to win comfortably over a New Jersey public powerhouse.

My googling skills must have taken a day off. Probably should have put 2018 in the search. Thanks for the corrections.

No sweat. Since 2012, it hasn't mattered if one ignored NoRo or the Parma schools. As Brian points out above, however, NoRo is a bit of a sleeper this year and could surprise many and squeeze into the playoffs as #7 or #8.

NoRo is returning a 3rd year QB with a nice pedigree from older brothers. Offense looks strong. He threw for, I think, 5 TDs against the other NR, North Ridgville, last week. Not quite as strong as the 2012 NoRo playoff team, but much improved. Went 6-4 last year with all 4 losses against playoff teams.

I agree the Bears could be a sleeper. In my SWC thread I picked them to win comfortably over North Ridgeville, and they did. I fully expect them to beat Parma on Friday and look for them to appear in the Week 3 Games of the Week.
