Alliance D-2 District Rankings #2

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

I’ve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if I’m forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

106-
1. Jacob Decatur- CVCA (1st, 6th state)
2. Garrett Lautzenheiser- Louisville (7th middle school state)
3. Kyle Rowan- Perry (5th district)
4. Ethan Fletcher- Canfield (8th middle school state)
5. Jason Mayes- Jefferson
6. Dierre Clayton- SVSM (8th middle school state 2016)
7. Caiden Hart- Salem
8. Daniel Adams- Poland

Decatur claimed the Ironman title after knocking off Richard Figueroa 4-3 in the semis and Ryan Miller 5-3 in the title bout.
The win catapulted him to the top of the National Rankings (Flo Wrestling), while Miller and Figueroa are now ranked 2nd and 4th in the national respectively.

Lautzenheiser made a statement at Hoover, winning the title after defeating middle school state finalist Mikey Lewarchick (7-2), pinning state placer Boot Kuhlins, and teching middle school state placer James Baumann 23-5 in the finals.

Rowan dominated the field at the North Coast Classic where he posted 5 pins and a tech on his way tot the title.

Fletcher rebounded from a first round loss to Brett Szuhay to win 5 straight consolation bouts at Solon to finish 3rd. One of the wins was a come from behind pin in the rematch with Szuhay.

113-
1. Christian Wayt- West Branch (5th state)
2. Kyle Petersen- Aurora (SQ)
3. Matthew Williams- CVCA
4. Ryan Jakubiak- Louisville
5. Sean Neff- Streetsboro (6th district)
6. Nick Began- Orange (6th district 2016)
7. Jake Hamulak- Chardon
8. Anthony Trivasono/Tommy Frazier- Lake Catholic

Wayt trounced the field at Cambridge where he beat state qualifier Thane Kaufman 10-0 in the semis and then avenged his state semifinals loss to Cole McComas with an 8-1 victory in the finals.

Petersen defeated state qualifier Jared Dressler 4-2 at Ironman (@120). I’ll move him up to that weight if he doesn’t wrestle here by the next set of rankings.

Neff defeated Began 5-4 in the finals of the Hudson Holiday Tournament.

Began claimed gold at both Solon and the North Coast Classic, defeating Hamulak (6-2) and state qualifier Jimmy Balazy (9-3) in the semis and finals of the latter event.

Hamulak placed 3rd at both Solon and the North Coast Classic. At the latter event, he posted a pair of wins over state alternate Nick Sabin.

120-
1. Matt Cardello- CVCA (3rd, 7th, 8th state)
2. Dominic Carone- Streetsboro (2nd, 5th state)
3. Hunter Ryan- Lake Catholic (4th, 6th state)
4. Ed Suber- SVSM (7th state)
5. Luke Hewitt- Hoban (SQ)
6. Joe Averill- University
7. Johnny Wayslaw- Geneva
8. Mason McCarty- Marlington

Cardello bumped up to 126 for Hoover where he claimed the title after beating state placer Cole Mattin in the semis and 2x state placer McCrone (3-2) in the title bout.

126-
1. Jordan Decatur- CVCA (1st state)
2. Connor McCrone- Lake Catholic (5th, 4th state)
3. David Massey- Woodridge (6th state)
4. Joe Wright- Coventry (8th state)
5. Davin Rhoads- Louisville (2nd middle school state)
6. Hunter Olson- SVSM (SQ)
7. Alex DelGarbino- Girard (5th district)
8. Isaiah Smith- Field

Decatur placed 4th at Ironman where he lost a pair of razor thin bouts. I thought that he had the reversal in his semifinal bout with Crace, but it was not awarded.
If their likely state finals rematch is anything like the first bout, we’re in for a treat.

McCrone beat state qualifier Nick Nastasi 5-3 in the finals of the Solon Comet Classic.

Wright earned a title at the North Coast Classic where he beat Solon’s Trysten Zahoransky 5-2 in the semifinals.

132-
1. Jack Gorman- Aurora (SQ, 8th state 2016)
2. Josh Baitt- Jefferson (5th district)
3. Miles Knuckles- Coventry
4. Oggy Ford- Alliance
5. Brandon Reeves- Woodridge (6th district)
6. Carter Mickley- Louisville
7. Kaleb Kiss- Norton (6th district)
8. McCoy Watkins- Canfield

Baitt pinned his way through the field at the Riverside Rumble where he stuck Patrick McGraw in the finals.

Knuckles earned 7 pins on his way to a title at the NCC. His final two falls were over state qualifier Seth Majewski and state alternate Caleb Schramm.

138-
1. Luke Wymer- SVSM (4th state)
2. Andy Garr- Aurora (SQ 2016)
3. Skyler Curry- Alliance
4. Austin Pownall- CVCA (1st middle school state)
5. Derek Cain- (Akron) Springfield
6. Mike Hamski- Jefferson
7. Justin Rayner- Chagrin Falls
8. Daniel Kennedy- Louisville

Wymer beat state qualifier Matt Zuckerman 9-2 at Ironman. He also posted a 7th place finish at the Beast of the East where he lost to Marco Regalbuto before winning 4 out of 5 consolation bouts including a 12-3 major over Devon Britton who eliminated Regalbuto.

Garr pinned district placer Sam LoFaso in their dual meet.

145-
1. Cole Bailey- Southeast (5th district 2016)
2. Bret Baker- Norton (7th state)
3. Jake Potok- SVSM (SQ)
4. Braylin Lightner- Alliance
5. Jeff Dunfee- Ravenna
6. Sean O’Dwyer- University
7. Caiden Rodgers- Streetsboro
8. Dalton Duvall- CVCA (2nd middle school state)

Bailey bested Baker 7-4 in the finals of the WIT.

152-
1. Jax Leonard- Louisville (8th state)
2. Will McGhee- Aurora (5th district)
3. Chris Anderson- Streetsboro
4. Isaac Yoho- Woodridge (SQ 2016)
5. Luke McKeon- Lake Catholic (SQ)

8. Dylan Miller- West Branch (SQ)

McGhee beat state bronze medalist Hunter Yackee 4-3 in OT at Ironman.

1. Kevon Freeman- Lake Catholic (1st, 1st, 6th state)
2. David Johnson- SVSM
3. Caleb Cass- Cloverleaf (6th state)
4. Peter Biery- West Branch
5. Jamil Bannister- Girard (5th district)
6. Stefan Farian- Revere (6th district)
7. Trevor Mitch- Aurora
8. David Reinhart/Ben Cutrer- Canfield

Freeman rolled through the field at Solon, and then followed up with a 5th place finish at Ironman where he shutout D-3 state champ James Limongi 6-0 in the consolation quarterfinals. He also claimed a 6th place finish at the Beast of the East this past weekend.

Cass dominated the fields at Lorain and Buckeye, posting 8 pins and a 12-0 major over Shawn Petty over the course of the two events. He added another tournament title at Hudson where he majored Mason Coleman 10-1 in the finals.

170-
1. Anthony D’Alesio- Canfield (4th state)
2. Hank Carey- Streetsboro (SQ)
3. Cole Hivnor- Lake Catholic (1st middle school state)
4. Quinton Kelley- Hoban (3rd state)
5. Spencer Robinson- Woodridge (SQ)
6. Zak Crissman- SVSM
7. Jack Rogan- (Akron) Springfield
8. Marcus Davis- Alliance

He followed that win with an even more impressive title at Hudson where he beat Spencer Robinson 3-1 in sudden victory in the semis and then downed state placer Kelley 3-2 in the finals.

Hivnor made waves at Hoover where he won the title after pinning Brent Paulus in the semis and defeating state placer Luke Reicosky 4-3 in the finals.

5. Kenny Marra – West Branch (1st middle school state)
6. Nate Amato- Tallmadge (3rd middle school state)
7. Devin West- Buchtel
8. Rocco Pearce- Cloveleaf

Heath posted an impressive 4th place finish at the Beast of the East where he beat Jack Parr (who was 4th at Prep Nationals) 2-1 in the tiebreak in the consolation semifinals.

Williams defeated Josh Baldridge 10-6 in the finals of the Wayne Invitational Tournament.

195-
1. Cory Stallings- Cloverleaf (5th district)
2. Colin McNamara- Aurora
3. Nick Crawford- Canfield
4. Anthony Ward- SVSM
5. Mike Lobosky- Chardon
6. Beckett Fant- Revere
7. Noah Wray- Lake Cath.
8. Carlos Bach- Girard

Stallings won titles at both Lorain and Buckeye, defeating Dayton Robin 2-1 in the finals of the latter event.

2. Tyler Stein- Canfield (SQ)
3. Breslin Walker- CVCA (SQ)

5. Chavion Young- Alliance
6. Ben Hornacek- Norton (6th district)

DelGarbino pinned his way to a title at Solon, Sticking Daniel Bucknavich in the finals.

Leasure defeated district placer Tyler Petrey 5-0 in their dual meet. He then defeated Petrey a second time 3-2 in the finals of the Hoppel to claim the title.

Julian bested Hindley 4-1 in the finals of the Hudson Holiday Tournament.

Team:
1. CVCA
2. SVSM
3. Canfield
4. Aurora
5. Lake Catholic
6. Alliance
7. Louisville
8. Streetsboro

SVSM has a few wrestlers (Johnson, Suber, Potok) who will likely have to sit out half to season to fulfill the transfer rules. I expect that they’ll be back around Top Gun.

CVCA finished tied for 16th at Ironman ahead of teams like Wadsworth, Brecksville, and Olentangy Liberty.

Aurora moves up the rankings, thanks in part to McGhee’s jump after beating state placer Yackee at Ironman.

I removed state qualifier Parker Utley (Alliance) from the rankings for the time being. He defaulted out of Preseason Nationals, and I don’t know the extent of the injury. If he returns, it could bump Curry, Leightner, and Zach Rodgers up a weight.

Canfield had a few impressive performances from the non football players at Solon. Fletcher was 3rd, Cutrer was 2nd, and Barber and Reinhart reached the consolation semifinals.
I’m wondering if Reinhart and Cutrer will drop to 152 and 160 respectively once D’Alesio returns.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baum’s Page and Jake’s Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

I think your missing CVCA's Justin West at 152. Finished 4th at Hoover on a very controversial call. I think he is easily on the top 8 at Alliance.

For Canfield, Reinhart had a huge weekend, and came up with a big pin vs Reynolds 152 kid after he was down 5-0 starting the 2nd. Reynolds is highly rated team in Pa. they were state dual champions last season. Canfield won the match 34-33.

I had West at #9. 152 is crazy loaded as it is currently constituted. Among the other wrestlers who I have outside of the top 8 are state qualifier Musci, and district placer Ducca.
I think any of those top 11 can qualify for state, but it'll be a grind from the opening round of the district tournament at this weight.

Do you know where I can find the individual results from the duals? I searched all over for the results, but I've only been able to find the team scores.

I followed them on Canfield’s Twitter. I believe they went undefeated from 160 up, D’alesio didn’t wrestle vs Reynolds and Ben Cutrer win at 170, David had 3 pins & Reynolds forfeited vs him.

Canfield looked really good this weekend. They went undefeated from 170 up their 160 had one loss to McGhee, but as a whole they were really tough. Good luck to them the rest of the year

I don't have any other matches except what Reynolds wrestled. Sorry. I did watch the 126 kenston vs Aurora match with Nastasi winning over Peterson 5-1. Don't have a clue how Peterson made 113, kid is huge. Only paid attention because it's my oldest sons weight. I know Canfield was missing D'eliso. "Spelling". I know Reynolds was missing their normal 113, 160, 182, and heavyweight. All out due to injury. They will all return for Powerade. It was a good dual!
