Maybe there is a reason they have never won it since the AP days

Great info,Triangle Man

I would put the 2014 Central team and 2007 Louisville team at the top of my list. But I am relatively young so I can not speak for the earlier teams.

Back in the day, Massillon was unlucky not to beat St. X in the final, and lost a playoff game on a missed fg against a very good Ignatius team. They did better than any D1 school in Stark not named McKinley.

Can't remember the year but Louisville lost heart breakers to eventual state champions West Branch and another nail biter to McKinley. I think that team was better than the 07 team.

85 McKinley. Dean Brown(Notre Dame) Percy Snow (Mich. St.) Jerome Perrine (Mich. St.) Mark Smith (Ohio St.) , Chris Clax. Brian Chaney (South Carolina), Rich Van Voorhis (OU). They were really good.

1969 10-0 Perry Panthers..but there wasn't playoffs then. Some say the most talented team ever. Six D-1 prospects. Backfield alone had All Fed QB Chuck Barton, Stark MVP RB Tim Laps and full ride to Miami of Ohio RB Earl Harbin.

1999 Lake was huge and up there with the most impressive prep teams I've ever seen.

Look at all those NBC teams ,and WestBranch actually won the playoffs. Talk about turning a proud league into a hot mess!

91 and 99 Lake.

Both great teams. 91 was undefeated losing to a stacked Fostoria team in the Finals.
99 ran into a loaded Walsh Jesuit team in the Semi's and gave them all they could handle, I believe they would have won D2 if Walsh was D3 that year (they were flopping back and forth at the time).

I saw all of those teams! Dover played 99 Lake twice, 05 Massillon, 07 Northwest, and 10 Marlington. I saw 14 Central play NP cuz Dover was playing a bs Canadian team that week. In 07 I saw Louisville play DeSales in the playoffs.

Can't argue with any of those picks.

IMO, agree w/1985 Canton McK team, I also thought 1983 Massillon team that got edged out of playoffs due to loss at the hands of Charles Gladman-led Akron Garfield deserves mention. 1985 St Thomas Aquinas team was brutally physical and was every bit as good as McKinley.

I did not see the1969 Perry team but trust Big Ed's judgement.

Good catch. '83 Tigers team was head and shoulders better than the '05 team. But man on man did the '05 team have a ton of heart. Haven't seen it since.

Come on man. The 85 Saint Thomas team was very good but they were nowhere close to McKinley. Look at the talent I listed above for that 85 bulldog team. None of the other teams listed or as good as that one.

And the 05 Bulldog team wasn't close either. Didn't they have 3 losses? Brinson was a one man show.

84 Hoover...denied by a late FG in the D1 title game.

08 Hoover lead by Howard...ran into the Iggy machine in the D1 state semi.

Massillon's '02 squad is one of the best teams that I've ever seen Warren G. Harding play against. Shawn Crable was an absolute monster!

2001 Jackson. Suffocating defense and handed D2 state champion Toledo St. Francis de Sales their only loss of the season.

McKinley's Roch Hontas led 1974 team...by far the most talented team that would have won a title (a last second loss to Massillon ended those hopes).

Ringer-I saw both teams play Canton central Catholic that year. McKinley struggled to pull out I think a 4 point win while Aquinas physically manhandled CCC 28 to 7 with the only score being a kick off return for TD.

Aquinas had 3 kids that played in the Big Ten , 1 SEC, 3 MAC and an Ivy Leaguer. So I think "nowhere close" is not an accurate statement.
