Massillon Tigers 2017 Season

08/25 H Mentor
09/01 H Canton GlenOak
09/08 A Warren Warren G Harding
09/15 H Youngstown Ursuline
09/22 H Bedford
09/29 A Austintown Fitch
10/06 H Buffalo Canisius (NY)
10/13 H Akron Firestone
10/20 H Akron St. Vincent-St Mary
10/27 A Canton McKinley

As the season is rapidly approaching, there is the schedule before us. How is the third year under Nate Moore going to turn out for the Tigers? Our regular season record improved, but we had a head scratching home loss in the opening round of the playoffs. How will this year's team look after the loss of so much "talent" across the LOS? What will the defense look like under the direction of the new DC? Lots of questions to discuss leading up to another exciting year of Massillon Tiger football. Go Tigers!

Well I think it's going to be a disaster but what does it matter? Coach's wife signed to a two-year extension for her job which would presumably mean that he will also be re-signed no matter what happens. Of course they throw money away up there like garbage so I guess I could be wrong. Wishing for the best but reality is reality.

I'd vote for a number somewhere in that large gap between 6 and 10+.

It's a tough schedule, so 10 seems like a stretch. I'd pick 6, or 6.

I'm thinking a 3rd option for 6 may be the best.

Honestly, I believe the season will hinge upon how much improved the defense will be under new DC McConnell. Craig McConnell was a tremendous defensive back at Massillon and while he was a good athlete, what made him stand out on the field was the intelligence and heart he played with. Without a doubt we will see a more fundamentally sound defensive effort this year from the Tigers. We may not have a talent heavy roster, but we do have enough to be competitive in every game on the schedule. With an improved defense and hopefully Jamir toting the rock on offense, I am going to say that the Tigers are going to have a 7 game win total during the regular season. Go Tigers!

Massillon Tigers 2017 Season

I like the addition of McConnell and the greater input of Mazur as a plus for this Tigers team. Cupps was just bad

Not sure what the win total will be for this Tigers squad but I expect them to exceed expectations.

Always fun to follow, 7-3. Don't know about the playoffs, depends on their health this late in the season, and their opponents.

This can't be the end result for Nate Moore in his third year at the helm. It would be easier to stomach not making the playoffs, than to be embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs. There are plenty of people writing off Moore already as another failed, forced hire by the booster club "search committee". We know he's not the second coming of Rockne, but can he build upon last years regular season success? He was touted as a program building guru, he made Minster competitive in the MAC and a State Champion, he turned a never won nothing, doormat of a program in LaSalle into a perennial conteder in the GCLS and a multi time State Champion. When you think about it, that's pretty impressive?

So what is stunting the growth at Massillon? We have the pedigree, we have a beautiful stadium and facilities, great tradition, and a rabid supportive fan base. We should have no problem winning consistently at a very high level, especially in DII. Are the kids not fully invested, is the coach not fully invested?

I'd always taking making the playoffs over not making them 23.

As an outsider, the only problem I can see would be in the youth program. Moore was plenty successful elsewhere which tells me he's not the problem. The problem seems to be in the talent level. There's also a problem with unrealistic expectations by some of the faithful.

Lack of youth program
Unreasonable expectations
Meddling geriatric booster club
Felons connected to the program
OHSAA violations
Circus recruiting scandals

Please let me know when to stop.

What about the purported problem with the location of the middle school?

Same tired, thoughtless excuses year after year....Those certainly are contributing factors why we can't enjoy sustained long-term success. But why couldn't we win once we got into the playoffs in 2016, talent? We had at least 5 guys playing on our team last year that were or are going to be offered DI college scholarships, not including Jasinski. What other team in DII had that type of talent, other than LaSalle? What should the expectations be when you have that number of scholarship athletes on your team? Is the booster club running the practices? Is the booster club responsible for directly hiring Cupps? If they are then Moore has been a bigger disappointment than I thought.

Listen I understand being patient and giving coaches the benefit of the doubt, but this man was brought and touted as a program builder. Certainly, not much was expected during year one, but even though the regular season record improved during year two, the performance and execution on the field was not much better. That is the telling aspect of if we're heading in the right direction. Yeah I know the level of involvement the booster club has in running the program, as opposed to just supporting the program is ridiculous. At the end of the day the head coach is responsible for the product that takes the field every Friday and the expectations are that you see improvement from week to week. Go Tigers!

Around 6 wins. Might be enough for playoffs as Canisius will provide points.

I think last year was the year the Tigers could have done something. The talent was there. This year's team will be overall less talented than last year.

I'm interested to see what the offense looks like under Mazur. Does anyone have projections of who the OL will be? I think Alex Soto is their only returning (partial) starter.

Are you talking about a pre-junior high program? Because there are plenty of successful high school teams that don't have that sort of youth program.

?? Reading posts that don't exist? Nobody has said that in any of the posts on here. You are way too time invested in trolling a program that you say you hate. So, A, you have a grudge because someone there that has either bruised your ego or your face, or B, you are truly a closet Massillon Tiger fan.

If you're talking about the same kid from last year he was #17 I believe. Soph TE? Very skinny but yeah he looked about 6'3 last year. Who is Williams by the way?

WOW! Since it evidently has to be explained to you - The lowest number available on the poll is 4, insinuating that there will be at least four wins on the season.

Honestly I think they'll rotate in and out quite a bit as Maguire and Keirns will play both ways. Look for Gaddis,Jones, and Foss to be added in the mix. Anthony who was listed as a TE last year could be a nice Tackle if he adds a few more pounds. Not nearly as big upfront as last year.

The Williams kid is Leon Williams the brother of Devin Williams who played a few years ago. He's 6'-2" - 250 sophomore who has some great potential. Dean Clark will be a 2 way player for us as will be Kutscher. Both have great size for secondary.
