I had pretty low expectations based on the fact that the guy's name is Dilson.

We weren't keeping Bruce anyway, so got rid of guy they didn't want, and got little in return. It happens.

Ceiling for Garrett in 2018 - 10-12 wins, 150+ innings, establishing himself as a good solid starting major league pitcher. Floor - inconsistency, up and down from Louisville.
I think the kid can be very good, he could be a #2-#4 type starter.

If you extrapolate this next year into some hof career for carrot, Iíll consider it a an impressive season.

Making the big league club certainly does not count as impressive.

Obviously becoming a reliable/serviceable starter, as he was drafted and groomed to be. I’m not sure why indiadad has to be so obtuse.

That's golden.... you're calling me obtuse yet you won't state for all to see your answer to a very direct question.

You say reliable/serviceable; yet that can have so many different levels.

I don’t think that’s the kind of thing you need to define in concrete stats ahead of the season. We’ll know when the season is over... besides, that wasn’t even the point of the original statement.

The original statement was that he seemed to make a big step forward. The troll disagreed. You agreed with the troll. I'm just asking for you two (and others) to define "impressive season". It really shouldn't be that difficult to measure success in a sport that measures every aspect of the game.

The point is he needs to prove it over a longer period of time before anyone can be sure he’s actually taken a big step forward. This really isn’t rocket science and I know EP trolls but this isn’t trolling. Pretty common sense stuff here.

Obviously, if he pitches an entire season the way he has pitched this spring, Iíd be beyond impressed. However, if he just shows progression this year towards becoming a reliable starter, Iíd be satisfied. If you need stats, just look up average pitching stats for mlb starters on teams with 500+ wining percentage.

Of course he needs to prove it over a longer period and especially at the big league level. I hope he gets a chance to do so. He has had a really promising Spring. Unfortunately the Reds will likely not give him an opportunity to start every 5th day. Instead they'll stick him in the pen where he'll have to do the toughest job of any pitcher, be ready to pitch every day but maybe not pitch for 7-10 days. That long relief role should be Bailey. Instead Bailey is starting Opening Day.

Pennington is a valuable addition to this team. He is clearly a backup who can play several positions at a pretty high level when needed. Is he an all-star? No, but the Reds could use a veteran who 1) knows his role, 2) accepts that role, and 3) can play effectively whether he's been in there once a week or 5 days in a row in case of an injury.
Having him also allows the Reds to play their valuable young players every day -- whether with the Reds or Louisville -- rather than sitting on the bench.

Gosselin, Pennington, Phil Ervin and Kevin Quackenbush make the team; Alex Blandino, Brandon Dixon and Cody Reed to AAA. Would rather have Ervin at AAA starting everyday rather than sit up here and be a 5th outfielder who never plays. Hope the leash on Gosselin is very short because I'd like to see Dixon up here. He can play everywhere and it'd be nice to have all three players from the Frazier deal on the team

Finnegan and DeSclafani will both start on the DL. I'd say Disco is probably done for good. What a waste

Also hilarious that Finnegan has basically ruined his career by falling off of a boat dock. Most Reds thing ever

I have none. We know what he is - decent glove, weak bat, utility guy. I guess the Reds got him to be a bench utility guy so that the young guys not starting can go play daily in AAA.
