Ignatius-Mentor in stae championship game

After I idiotically placed this thread in the basketball column and two kind Yappi posters pointed this out without calling me any dubious words, I'll repeat the thread.

Where's all the chatter about this game? If it were a football game, there would be pages of comments. Here nothing. Maybe it's because I can't name a single player on the Ignatius team or have no idea what their record is. At the least I would have expected mentor2002 to make an appearance to say that all the Mentor players actually live in Mentor. In any event let's hope for a clean close game and that nobody suffers a concussion.

Mentor is higher rated and much fresher, especially with the pitching. I would consider it a big upset if Ignatius wins this one. The best part is that the 10 am game is not in Columbus, so the two NEO teams can travel to a game in NEO, allowing more people to attend.

As I recall from my days in the early 60's it was not uncommon for a pitcher to go both ends of a doubleheader. I guess out of common sense OSHAA issued a rule prohibiting that. But what about a pitcher who goes 4 innings in relief, is he eligible to pitch in the next game?

The short version:
Max number of pitches allowed to be thrown in a day is 125 (pitcher may finish current batter if he reaches 125 during that at-bat, but that's all, folks).

1-30 pitches = 0 days of rest
31-50 pitches = 1 day of rest
51-75 pitches = 2 days of rest
76+ pitches = 3 days of rest

1.71) A pitcher may finish the current batter if THE DAILY PITCH LIMIT (125) is reached during that at bat.
1.72) At the end of each contest, coaches will submit pitcher number and pitches thrown in the designated data collection system.
1.73) All pitches thrown in a suspended game or a “no contest” game SHALL COUNT toward the daily pitch limit and the total number of pitches thrown.
1.74) All pitches thrown in a scrimmage or Preview SHALL COUNT toward the daily pitch limit and the total number of pitches thrown.
1.75) Each school/team must keep a record of all pitches thrown by each of their players in each game and make this available to the OHSAA upon request.
1.76) Any player pitching during a period in which rest is required is considered to be pitching as an ineligible player.
Note: Any victorious contest in which an ineligible player is participating will result in forfeiture of the contest.

So are you telling me Brian Hoyer has an Ohio state baseball champion ring to go along with his Super Bowl ring? Wonder which one he wears.

That Rogers kid is the real deal. The Ignats are going to have their work cut out for them if he is on.

If the heathens can score 4 on the Ignats pitching staff, they win.

They probably split greater Cleveland into east and west. C-bus would likely have to be handled similarly.

Mentor leads 2-1 after five. On one hit. Plate umpire looked to blow the second run call.

St. Ignatius came out of Bowling Green regional and Mentor came out of the Louisville regional.
It happens every once in a while. Look at DI basketball in 1998, St Edward beat St. Ignatius in the state championship.

It’s now the bottom of the 8th (Mentor batting). Still tied 2-2.

There are too many DI schools in NE Ohio to fit into 1 region and not enough DI schools in NW Ohio to fill out 1 region, so the schools on the west end of the NE District (Cuyahoga County schools west of Cleveland plus schools in Lorain and Medina Counties) often get paired up with the schools from the NW District to form a region. This arrangement repeats itself in many sports (basketball, track, soccer, volleyball, etc). St. Ignatius HS is on the near west side of Cleveland in the same neighborhood as the Great Lakes Brewery and the West Side Market.

If that indeed did happen, the runner might have broken one of the unwritten rules of baseball: if there are two outs, never get thrown out at third to make the final out.

The Mentor runner was in the process of stealing 2nd. When the pitch got past the Ignatius catcher to the 3rd base side, he tried to get to 3rd base. Good throw by the Wildcat catcher and tag by the 3rd baseman. No argument afterward.

Game recap:

https://ohsaa.org/Portals/0/Sports/B...19/ohsaa09.pdf

The freshman Gabe Nard starts for the Wildcats and pitches 4-2/3.
Junior Luke Lashutka pitches 5 strong innings, getting out 14 of the 15 batters he faced.
Wildcat pitching gives up only 2 hits

The Cats key position players came through in the clutch
Gaich led off the game with a walk, stole 2nd and scored on an error.
McNamara had the lead-off triple in the 10th.
Holdsworth followed with his 2nd hit, a double and scores later on an error as the catcher tried to throw him out at 3rd, but the ball went into left field
