Another Celebrity Suicide

Anthony Bourdain has died because of an apparent suicide: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...608-story.html

Guy seemed to have it all together on camera. Along with Kate Spade that makes 2 celebrities in one week who have committed suicide, crazy that people who have so much think its not worth moving on with their life.

That's a shame. I have to admit I just can't understand why these folks choose to check out. Depression, I guess. It must be horrible, in that it seems to just sap the joy out of a life that so many others would consider blessed.

I enjoyed his show both in it's subject matter and for Bourdains sardonic wit. RIP

My cynicism, always waits for the other shoe to drop. Depression and anxiety can be real for no reason, I get that. It can also be caused.

I never saw his show, actually avoided it out of fear I'd be buying airline tickets. Seemed interesting.

Saying something is "no joke" is a pretty common expression.

He went into different countries, met the real people, ate their food, treated them like stars, and informed the viewers about culture and life. No one else has done it as thoroughly or respectfully.

Two celebrities, never heard of neither one until this week. Sad to hear they thought this was the answer.

My father was in the restaurant biz and I had a lot of insight into what goes on behind those doors in a commercial kitchen, Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential does a good job of giving insight into those secrets.

I'd never heard of Kate Spade either, tbh. Anthony Bourdain is pretty much a household name, though.

Really? That surprises me. Most females aged 20-60 have either owned or wanted to own a Kate Spade purse at some point.

Pboy has even heard of Kate Spade.

Granted, that’s likely only due to the company being part of an acquisition in 2017.

These deaths are very sad, and will likely lead to an uptick in worldwide suicide rates in the short term, unfortunately

I have 2 daughters and a wife and I'd never heard of Kate Spade. I told my wife as much and she said there is no reason I should have heard of her. I don't know if that is good or bad.

These things usually happen in threes, hopefully this is not the case.

By the way, Anthony Bourdain was a ball buster and the last guy I would think would check out on his own accord. Kate Spade on the other had was depressed and had anxiety issues; she had also just gone through a divorce. Her career trajectory is one that many women dream of in my part of the world. Irish Catholic girl that went to a single sex catholic HS, in college joined a popular sorority securing a journalism degree, and moved to NYC with a gig at a fashion magazine. Caught the design bug and her break through was to make a simple bag that could be used with a variety of outfits and social settings when the trend for purses at that time was over the top almost "kitschy" looks used for particular occasions. The Black Watson Lane Sam became the iconic bag for hip urban women born in the '70s.

I'm sure this predominantly male board never heard of her. I didn't until her suicide (my wife is knows her)
Only watched AB parts unknown here and there but it was a quality show.
Are people on thus board aware that the suicide rate in this country is ALWAYS higher than the homicide rate

That is the one stat that should be looked at on a national level and dealt with accordingly IMO

Well put. I loved the shows from the Middle East. Lebanon, Syria, Iran. Paints a different picture than the nightly news. Really bummed he checked out but to each his own.
