Being from Athens County can make you feel that way.

The better catholic schools have always had this problem. Cardinal Mooney would love to get easy big points from AAC schools like Poland and Canfield

Even better to get Glenville now. They're not likely to beat a good nonleague foe like Olentangy Liberty, but they should still run the table in the Senate League - Harbin Cow.

yep, always been a harbin cow with guarantee 7-3 or better.

and they are still a tough opponent. Regional Runner-Up in 2015, State Runner-Up in 2013 and a system that keeps bringing in talent.

Schools Opt Out of Playing Strong Opponent

all I can say is those schools that are DODGING most of the time end up being first and second round fodder.

Yep, this is the first year with the NBC after they threw out Louisville, and Louisville arguably ended up with a better schedule and possibly less travel (all of their games are in Stark and Mahoning county if I recall)

And the AAC top half has kept the conference in formats where they can largely duck one another IN CONFERENCE for a decade, which is why itís falling apart now, and as you mentioned 80% of them are gone week 11, and the rest are gone week 12 (and only got there because they played another one in week 11)

Canfield played in week 13 after easily handling Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin and Aurora in weeks 12 and 11 respectively. They narrowly lost to St. Vincent-St. Mary in week 13, and they had the lead late so it could have easily gone either way.

I think if you are in a strong conference, you want a weak out of conference schedule, and if you play in a weaker conference, you want a strong out of conference schedule. A team like Woodridge, or Buchtel probably want to schedule stronger opponants, and teams like Barberton or Copley want weak out of conference opponants.

If you are in a strong conference and may stand to lose a league game or two, I would think a weak out of conference schedule may leave
you getting ready for basketball season come week 11.

Back when Devin Gardner played for Detroit area Inkster, their league disbanded and reformed with the same basic membership, sans Inkster. They spent a few years touring Ohio, not sure where that stands now.

It amazes me how people judge communities based off what big city they're close to. Don't see anyone calling Oakwood, Kettering or Beavercreek troubled areas and they directly boarder Dayton. Huber Heights is smack dab in the middle of the pack. The perceived "Danger" of playing a game there is a complete joke. Sure, you aren't going to run into a bunch of mansions just like you aren't going to run into gangs if you need to stop for gas, a bite to eat or anything else.

*do have a few somewhat annoying fans just like every other school.

Unsuccessful schools are scheduling to try and get into the playoffs, successful schools are trying to schedule to win in the playoffs. Once unsuccessful schools become successful schools they start scheduling up and vice versa.

That is funny. Both of my sons played for Coach Poggi when he was at Gilman and doing the same thing. I know because I sat in many living rooms as a booster and heard the pitch first hand. Now that he is at a different school and one that is mostly African American the rest of the mostly white and wealthy MIAA has a problem with it. Calvert Hall, Loyola, and Gilman were all recruiting the Baltimore-DC-Southern Pennsylvania region. Guess if you can not recruit strong enough then you need to get out.

This is interesting.

Quote:
According to Turner, Poggi, a hedge-fund manager, had been bankrolling the Panthers program from the start, donating about $60,000 in seed money. While coaching at Gilman, he also served on the School Board at St. Frances, a small Catholic school in East Baltimore.

In addition, Poggi has funded scholarships for about 40 students per year, Turner said, confirming what was first reported in the Catholic Review last winter. Some receiving scholarships are not top-level players but need tuition assistance, and he is paying for housing for football players from out of town in Canton.

Poggi also funded tuition for some students at Gilman, where he coached football for 19 years. His Greyhounds won 13 A Conference titles, and in his final season in 2015, they went undefeated in the A Conference, finished 10-1 and were ranked No. 13 in the country.

What does it do for them? Get beaten and now all my better kids want to go there?

The better "Catholic" schools have a distinct advantage because they usually have the same influx of kids and talent. The public schools have natural ebbs and flows. I've seen many public schools have a couple good years and then believe they will always have the same kind of talent and therefore beef up their schedule only to not have the same kind of talent and take some lumps. Perrysburg in NWOhio is in this boat currently. At some point, learning how to win (and lose) is a real thing. After all most schedules are made 2-3-4 years in advance.

I think back to the Walsh Jesuit team of 2015. That team was big and had some talent but they could not catch a darn break with their schedule and ended the season 3-7.

Also, unless you are a die-hard fan most folks do not realize how talented and deep the BIG Catholic schools are year in and year out. They have back-up linemen that would not only start elsewhere but would be all-league in most instances. When Ignatius/Moeller/Eds/Xavier/Elder has a 6'3" 260lbs. guard go down they replace him with a 6'3" 260lbs. guard (sometimes better than the starter). Most public schools do not come close to that luxury.
