The 3200m should be contested on Day 1 of the state meet, between the 200 and 4x400.

This would better allow for distance doubles, which would lead to stronger fields, which is the whole purpose of a state championship meet. The 3200 could be moved to Day 1 at districts and regionals as well. This seems like an obvious, easy fix.

Actually yeah. I think I'd be a fan of this at Regionals as well... Districts would be a big field depending maybe, but I like it

The only problem would be that 4 by 400's would have to compete immediately following 200's, and there are definitely individuals who in those two events as well, especially in d2 and d3.

You could do the standard 20-minute break then, or just fill the time with the seated races.

I would rather see them move the 1600 to the start of the meet on day 2 since the 4x800 is run the day before. This would help both the 1600 and 800 double along with the 1600 and 3200 double and still get time between 200 and 4x4.

When we go to 4 divisions and each district and regionals are running double divisions they will have to run one of them on day 1 because day 2 would take 2 long.

God willing! Four divisions is a must, too.

This is a much better idea. very concerned for the 200 meter runners that are running the 4x400

We will have 4 divisions within 2 years. It is very simple to rotate the boys and girls 3200 going odd and even years.

How about running all the 3200's in the evening on Day 1, from 7:00 - 8:30? Get them all out of the heat. Run D1 last and you still could double 4x8/3200 if you needed to (D1 4x3 at 4:45 and 3200 at 8:15, or something like that).

That wouldn't solve anything at district and regional.

Many of these suggestions sound appealling to me because I am a cross country coach. However, when I think clearer, I realize that it should be the same as it is at most Invites and for sure like districts and or regionals.
futhermore, it only only aid a very few, with the risk of negativley effecting many athletes.

most of these are hindering for the other events.
Examples:
1. Rest for 4 x 400 athletes if the do the 200, 300 hurldes or 800 (the 2nd day)
2. would negativley effect those who do running event(s) and any field event at State - it often happens in DII and DIII
3. almost all of my state qualifing 1600 kids have also been on the 4 x 400 - I think many small school are like this.

Just some thoughts.

In several states the 1600 and 3200 are run as close together as possible so athletes have to choose. At first I was opposed to that, but I think it's probably better for competition. I'd hate to see track turn into swimming where one person can win all the events.
