OHSAA 2018 Regions

OHSAA has it listed on their website that Regions will be announced in May. Well, tomorrow is the 31st. Anybody know if the Football Regions will be released tomorrow the 31st?

The OHSAA is a joke. Always a dollar short and a day late

I'd have to guess that could be the release date then, within a few hours of the approval

How do they reassign the regions. I’m a Bellefontaine fan so if they make the playoffs will they go against the teams they did last year or will it be new teams?

They kinda start from scratch and Bellefonataine is in area that could be put up in NW or back with Central area teams again. Hard to say with them

Generally, they start in the northeast and southwest and work their way in via county lines.

Some oddities happen just because they won't split up counties (generally), so they may 'save' a county for the next region even if it might be almost completely enclosed by the other region. The numbers just don't add up. This happens with Franklin County a lot. The suburban counties wind up in other regions while Franklin winds up like a tab sticking out from another region.

The very first comment on that tweet is a complaint about playoff ticket prices. Are they going up this year?

Hell the OHSAA charges 7 bucks to go to a girls softball game. Football might be double that.

Attendance at State Wrestling Tournament has been down over the past decade or so. Some, myself included, believe it has something to do with rising ticket prices. $75 for an all-session lower bowl book of tickets which is $15 per session.

Probably close but since last year they were 17-19-18-19 and they dropped Perry to D2 and are now 18-18-18-18 they can't be exactly the same.

Upon further review it looks like Brunswick and Medina went from 2 to 1 and Springboro went from 4 to 3.

When did they get rid of the no splitting counties requirement? There has always been a certain "Gerrymandering" aspect to the Regions but it now seems really interesting that certain school appear to be right on that boarder going down the middle of metro counties in the bigger Divisions. Hoban being a notable one.

DIV Region went from being really tough to being an absolute meat grinder. I'm going to predict right now that whoever wins it will win State.

Pretty sure they did it to Franklin Co. (Columbus) when they tried the 2 regions for D1.

According to the published OHSAA regional maps, the enrollment numbers for D-2 are 403-607. Yet, some schools listed in D-2 exceed those figures?? Am I missing something?

Dover D2 Region 7 with 390 boys, Mass Perry Region 7 with 617 boys. Seems like a large spread

There is really no way around it. They take the top 10% out and make them D1. Then they take the rest and divide them into the 6 other divisions. You only have to be better than 107 other schools. I believe that is the fewest number of teams per division, when compared to other team sports.
