When did Women's Shotput change from 8# to 4kg?

As a track official, I have impounded many 8# shots. While fine for practice, many schools have brought these to meets.
What year did the NFHS transition to the 4kg (8.818#) shot?

For high school girls, I don't remember it ever being 8 pounds. I've been impounding 8 pound shots at high school meets since I became an official in 1998.

Up until a few years ago, 8 pounds was the proper size for both JH events. But now it's 6 pounds for girls and 4kg for boys. The 8 pound masses need to go away because they have no business being used at any scholastic level.

The girls high school throwers were using 8# shots in 1978, and moved to the 4k in 1979 I believe.

1980 is the correct year for implementation in Ohio in the "tournament".
