In the past 2 days the offers have come in for more Hoban players. Traynum who already holds power 5 offers received 2 more from Stanford and Vandy, Caden Clark just received the big one from Alabama to go with other power 5 offers, and 3 new players, OL Baxter from Marist, DL Makolowitz from Butler and WR Tipton from Navy. That brings the total players with D1 offers up to 9. That after sending 5 to Di and another 6 to D2-3 this year.

That their status of playing out of county teams shouldn't keep us from considering them in the top 10 discussion. Their play keeps them out of the discussion most years, but the schedule shouldn't.

Because some teams with better records are beating Coventry, Norton, Cuyahoga Falls, Revere, North, Garfield, etc. doesn't mean they are better. Yes, Green has been mediocre at best but still better than some teams with better records. That an unfortunately Summit County doesn't really have 10 really good teams?

Yes they have more college caliper kids in a two year span than any D-1 school does in a ten year period. Great coaching and weight room, give me a freakin break.

I'm surprised that you, who genuinely tries to keep these Summit/Akron area topics on track, are contributing (albeit in a funny way) to this one reaching its inevitable, off-the rails, tired, played-out conclusion. Ugh.

Well when you have very well educated adults that try to tell you with a straight face that the reason is in the weight training, weight room and coaches as being the reason Hoban has all this talent its hard for even the best not to jab once in awhile.

Wow what's the smallest Fed. School? I'm guessing Lake a division ll school and your comparing them to a small div Vl school that's like 5 boys from being a division Vll school. Nobody from mogadore thinks or said anything about beating a Fed school. You need to keep things in perspective, if the pole is based on who could beat who then maybe mogadore should not be listed along with a few other schools. If it based on who y think will have a successful season then they should be listed. As far as rusty ankor, if you look back to I believe the 91&92 seasons when Butch Reynolds was at hoban they had a 4 year contract. The first year mogadore won 27-21 in overtime. Year 2 at hoban mogadore won 10-3. Hoban cancled the contract. Now I'm not saying that would happen now but don't rag on a team that year in and year out is successful. Like I said in an earlier post go to mogadorefootball.com and look at the history and it shows wins and losses against every team they have ever played. It might surprise some.

Butch Reynolds graduated from Hoban in '83. I believe he only played football his senior year which would have been the '82 season. In the game at Mogadore he was flagged for lining up off sides several times, but only when he lined up on the Cats sideline!
That said I agree that Mogadore has been one of the most consistently successful programs in Summit County. Great little football town.

Actually the '82 game between Mogadore (which would finish 8-2 on the season) and Hoban (1-9) ended in a 43-25 victory for the 'Cats (no overtime needed). Mogadore led 22-0 early, but Hoban tied the game before halftime and took the lead in the third before Mogadore, clearly the better team, pulled away late. Butch scored one TD.

While Hoban had a much better team in '83 (the defense that year only allowed 54 points all season), an unbeaten Mogadore squad beat Hoban (which finished 6-4) 10-3 on a 4th quarter Steve Poth TD pass. Hoban was DIII and Mogadore was DV.

Those Poth-led teams were very good and Mogadore's program is one of the best and most tradition-laden in the area, no question.

Mogadore is the all time winningest team in Summit County high school football history with 600 plus wins. STVM is 2nd, Garfield & Barberton follow. My Alma Mater faced Mogaode once in State Semifinals beating them 6-0. Then beating Newark Catholic the following week 22-0 to win the State Title. Cats have an outstanding Program with a storied tradition .

Sorry for my confusion, ok I'm getting old and games and years blur together. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Thanks for correcting me.

Mogadore is a great small school program. I had trouble for years with their schedule. Beating Rootstown, Waterloo, Field, Garrettsville, etc. albeit bigger rural schools, that hardly got me excited and thankfully never wanted to go watch 90% of their games. But they will consistently win 8+ games a year. They are one of the top 10 summit schools if you go by size, which we should.

The history lesson is all well and good. I believe the thread is entitled: Top 10 Teams in Summit County for 2018. So here's my list.
1. Hoban
2. Hudson
3. St. V
4. Stow
5. Copley
6. East
7. Buchtel
8. Barberton
9. Tallmadge
10. Woodridge

I was gonna avoid this. But let me ask you, Hoban barely ever sniffed a ST for 40 years, then win 3 in a row. The coach gets a slap on the wrist for a recruiting violation which common sense will tell you that's just the one he got caught on and the OHSAA is a joke org. anyway. Now is he a better coach with a better system, probably. Could this same exact staff go into a public HS, instill the exact weight room and program and be just as successful, not in a million years. He is just as good as squirting around the rules and fully takes advantage of a flawed system that allows his school to go all over and court kids (not recruit, wink) when most of his competition can't and does not. And your a fool if you don't believe this is head on.
