However, one very fond memory was sitting in the stands and watching the Rick Worstell Bulldogs punk the he!! out of Moeller in the state championship game.

All in all, good freaking riddance Rubber Bowl!! LOL.
Loved the result of the Mck Moe game but darn it was cold!

The McK/St Joe was the worse for a game in the Rubber Bowl, cold and ice had to go to the car at halftime.

1994: McK ~ Mass (101) Packed house...

1997: McK vs St.I.

(never - ever - leave - a - game - early)

My first trip to the Rubber Bowl was in the 1950's; McKinley played Barberton
walked into the stadium thru the East tunnel that goes under the road.

Massillon came out in all orange and had bar Niles on this back. Great game.

Benny vs Mooney Div II Semifinal in 1981. Benny comes from behind with 2 4th quarter TDs to win the game, voted the #1 game in program history. Footing was horible as the snow on the carpet lead to a very slick surface. Not the best quality either as the snow on the field also affected the tint on the camera.

I'm with you on the memory thing. The article, although it seemed it wasn't well organized, jogged my memory. Massillon went up 14-7 with 1:11 to go in the game. I have always thought Massillon could have used the majority of that clock and took the game in regulation 10-7. I agree about the kick!

My first game at the Rubber bowl was the 101st Mck Mass game, my dad and I got into the field after the game to celebrate with the players. That was actually my first Mck Mass game that I was there and haven't missed one since. My most memorable game was the Mck game vs Iggy in 97. People were leaving saying "state champs nothing Nation champs nothing". After we won I told my dad think about all the people that left that wish they would have stayed lol. That game is the sole reason I never leave a game until zeros hit the clock

My favorite memory was playing U of A intramural flag football under the lights in freezing rain. The ice was so bad it started accumulating on the bottom of our turf shoes. But the schnapps brought to the game by a few friends kept us warm!! Second best memory? Watching Warren Harding on their march to the state championship in 1990. It also happened to be the year of the merger with Western Reserve.

As you get older, youre always looking back on the good times, and I sure had some out there. A time when Akron was at its best.

I agree with this is being a Tiger fan, but #3 We beat Willoughby South at the Rubber Bowl in 1980 21-6.

I am not sure who you are thinking of, but maybe it is Sandusky in 1990?

I was at the Massillon/McKinley packed house in 1994.

My other fond memory was Orville vs Manchester in an absolute monsoon at the Rubber Bowl and Dan Stultz (eventual OSU kicker) was hitting 50 Yard FG’s in warmups in the worst weather I’ve Ever sat through.

Haha I was there too for the Manchester game. The fierce wind snapped all of our umbrellas inside out and we got completely drenched from head to toe. It came out of nowhere! We left shortly after lol.

Best Memory: Marty Bezbatchenko sneaking over from the one to send the University of Akron football team to the Division II national championship game.

Worst Memory: Akron TE Chris Angeloff collapsing on the sideline after covering a kickoff. Two hours later, he was gone.

Worst/only memory:

Seeing the Ohio Bobcats lose in the closing seconds to Akron in their 2001 game. Was the beginning of a very painful Brian Knorr era.

peebles, we crushed them in the score no doubt, but when I rewatched the game recently, it wasn't what I remembered. They moved the ball up and down the field on the Panthers...If you saw the stats to the game, you would have think UA won 41-8.

Many, many memories of Turkey Day games in November and Strickland's ice cream during the summer looking up at the bowl!
