I believe these are the types of schools that will finally expidite the separation of Public’s and Privates.

I believe these types of schools will exhibit the folly of trying to exploit teenagers. I hope it goes down like a burning pile of excrement.

In my personal opinion, yes. Itís too much risk for not that much reward.

Itís entirely possible that they get accredited in time for the 2018-19 school year with a high enough enrollment to be D1 or D2 in OHSAA.

Itís more likely, to me, that plans fall through and they canít get going until 2019-2020.

Also third option if they get going this year but are way off on their enrollment estimates and are D3-5, which Iím sure would anger their opponents. Too many variables for me.

Agreed......This isn’t what Ohio Academics/Athletics is about.......Mercinary athletics is for Select teams, College, and Pro level Sports. High School Sports should have a different model as it is Academic and community driven....

Has anyone actually heard of any students who are actually planning to attend? Figure there'd at least be those rumors by now...

What I have heard...

COF wants to be OHSAA and compete in playoffs but won't be able to for at least 2 seasons. OHSAA is waiting to see what type of school it ends up.

COF has not decided yet to build dorms or to just draw from the Columbus area.

COF should be classified as a D2 school this season.

COF has $400 million to build with.

They have to compete under OHSAA rules for two years before applying to be a OHSAA member. In other words, they can't recruit for athletic purposes or play non-students on their teams and must field two varsity teams per athletic season (as Collinwood found out recently). Could still count in the points for opponents, though, if they follow the rules and get ODE squared away

What I heard is that there will be no post-grad players on the team. If they are going to follow the same route as IMG no way should they be allowed in the OHSAA. I guess it will be a wait and see.... I have no idea how good they will be either..... it is definitely a risk for any team playing them from Ohio when it comes to Harbins.

People seem to have "heard" a lot about a "school" that has no useful web site or Facebook page, or for the old-fashioned, a phone listing.

I'm not sure who is taking a bigger risk; the schools to schedule COF hoping they can field a team; or the kids who sign up to go to school there. They are claiming to have 800 incoming students, but I haven't heard any poster on this forum identify one single student who is going to attend COF, much less one single football player. They are apparently touting a $400M bankroll (just for building purposes) which seems vastly larger than the Jay Richardson Foundation could hope to set aside. What HS student would risk signing up for a school on the hope that it will open its doors? And how many quality football players would choose to attend a start up school? I can't imagine them fielding a team that would merit the schedule they have put together. It seems like an awfully big gamble by everyone involved that this thing will be up and going by this Fall...

How can you have a school with no buildings? Unless it's like the Red Lions fiasco with all computerized instruction, supervised by the coaches.

If you have the funding, you can rent the school facilities and even practice facilities while the buildings are being constructed. But you'd think that would already be done before they tried to convince students to come on board! At this point, it would be an awfully short campus visit! I guess they could try some on-line model; but that would seem to be a very hard sell to make to OHSAA.

I can't see how a brand new football program is starting with the kind of schedule they put together. Something definitely seems fishy to me.

IMG Academy was around for years before they started a football program didn't play their first season until three yeas after that. These guys are having an open house for prospective students 60 days before their first game. Is that sufficient time to prepare the kids to safely compete against high level varsity teams?

St. Ignatius thought there was a "61 acre campus" and St. Edward thinks it is apparently an "online school." Which is it? It can't be both. In Ohio online schools must be chartered and public.

Will the Ohio Department of Education approve them as a non-chartered, non-tax supported school based on truly held religious beliefs? Their second tweet, after "we here," was "non-believers welcome."

They have a $400 million budget and plans to build a large campus for the 2019-2020 school year, but they haven't decided yet whether it will be a boarding school or a day school? Wouldn't this be decided early on in the development of the business plan? Can a school campus be designed and built in less than 14 months?

What about transportation? 08 school students are not entitled to transportation provided by the state. Will all the students drive to school? Where is the nearest COTA stop?

To be classified DII, wouldn't they need an adjusted enrollment of about 400? If they have 100 football players and a competitive balance number of 100, wouldn't they need about 200 additional non-athlete male students enrolled in grades 9 through 11 for the 2018-2019 school year? Is that realistic?

What if the student body only consists of an average size varsity football roster? Wouldn't that likely put them in DVII. Isn't a victory over a winless DVII school only worth 3.5 Harbin points?

Will their team have any players over the OHSAA age limit?

Will their team have any players that are academically ineligible at an OHSAA member school?

Will their team have any players that were expelled from an OHSAA member school?

Will the defensive co-ordinator keep his position as "Director of Recruiting" should they become an OHSAA member?

Did any of their opponents pay them for these games?

Those are all important questions, especially the one about age limit. While OHSAA schools can play non-members, and receive HARBIN points for it, they do not receive any points for playing teams that have players on it over the OHSAA age limit.

As for the school size, they claim to be offering a full complement of sports, not just football. Enough kids to get them classified up to D II in football? I dunno.

I would usually know these things. But I know of no one playing for this team. I know of no one coaching for this team. I know of no one ordering equipment for/from this team. These are all things that would be essential to having a team.
I hate to be the barer of bad news: But I dont think this team exists nor will they exist.

Regarding who is coaching the team: several assistants from the Ohio Wesleyan staff of last year are chattering the inaugural coaching staff for COF Academy, this upcoming year.

It is most analogous to an Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, VA) type structure. For many, itís a post-secondary/prep opportunity. Itís not a model that supplants an actual four year high school, per se (like, you most likely arenít going to see kids defect from Coffman or Archbishop Pick North as freshman to go there

Wasnít clued in on how the actual educational component will function; didnít think to ask.

EDIT: Post on Bucknuts says theyíre hosting Iggy at the Shoe on 9/14. Hmm...
An Ohio IMG type school could do well in the Midwest. I am not aware of anything like IMG in the Midwest so could pull kids from MI, IN, KY, and PA. It will be interesting to watch it develop.

Now that the Open House has come and gone, does anyone know if the future of COF has come more into focus?

From what I know they are real. The Ohio Dept. of Education does not give them accreditation until July 2nd and they have a few studs who are considering enrolling. They are building a campus that will open in the fall of 2019, and they have Ohio State ties. I'm not 100% sure but, I think former Buckeye Jay Richardson is an administrator, and former receiver Jeff Greene is the WR coach.

Just an FYI, still not an accredited school. Taking things down to the wire.
