Javelin Throw

I got an email from a Moeller coach stating they took a team to a meet in Pennsylvania at the Hermitage Invitational on April 21, 2018 where Ryan Smith threw the Javelin 175'9" to set a new city record for Cincinnati. It is true, but I don't really know how good of a throw that is. Can someone like JAVMAN83 weigh in here to tell me how good of a throw that is for a high school kid? Also does Pennsylvania have the javelin throw as one of their standard events in track and field meets?

From Pa Milesplit meet. It looks like it must have been a good mark for that part of the season.

That's a very good throw for OHIO; however, not for PA. Ohio hasn't held the event as part of the OHSAA program since 1937 (different construction javelin (wood w/metal tip), but same weight). I don't know how much practice this kid has had, but sounds very promising. 175 would place well in most Division III college championships, but wouldn't qualify to nationals.

Still, nice throw!

Javelin is a BIG part of PA track & field. Numerous big names have come out of PA, including the current girls' high school record-holder.
