So what does everyone expect this season? Who should be up? Likewise, who may take a step back this season. May be a bit top heavy, but schedules/league difficulty always plays a role in how the Harbins shake out.

You gotta figure it's Hoban's and Hudson's to lose most years. Program wise anyway -- I'm not sure about what they'll be like in 2018. Boardman and Benedictine the other relevant players.

Other than that... Mayfield and Copley?

By the way, Div II use to be the domain of the smaller old school AAA public schools like Brecksville, Nordonia, Avon, etc... but with Competitive Balance this is now looking like the domain of the bigger old school AA privates like Hoban and now Toledo Central Catholic. I know of a couple suburban public fans who were worried that this is what would be happening so that the rural pubs down in IV & V would be happy. If Hoban or TCC wins this thing and a private wins in I look for more squaking about taking care of the pubs in the larger sized Divisions.

I guess what's tough is that the new D2 is more a problem for some of the urbanized publics and small suburbs that were always in D2 than for some of the smaller D1s, or at least it's a bit unfair for the former D1s to complain. I mean, Boardman had always had St. Edward and St. Ignatius in its region. So while Hoban and Benedictine will likely be two of the teams with staying power, it shouldn't be too daunting to Boardman, Hudson, etc at least from a name perspective, though the talent at Hoban especially certainly will be.

I do miss us being in the old Region 7, though. Last year was Boardman's golden chance to win the region. It should be interesting this year, I think the Spartans will have another solid team if they can stay healthy, which was the problem toward the latter half of last season after we lost probably 4 or 5 starters for one reason or another by the Massillon playoff game.

As for the rest of the region, I imagine Warren Harding will be better, they were inexperienced last season and had several near misses against a tough schedule. Likewise, I can't imagine Copley being down too long.

Some will complain, but I didnít even favor competive balance. Avon, for example, has been in a region with Toledo CC before and split two playoff meetings. Avon had a chance to get Hoban way down in the first half last year, but didnít cash in the scores. To be the best, you must beat the best...public or private. Heck, Avon lost a state final to a public Trotwood-Madison team that was more loaded than Hoban.

That's what I find even more interesting, the open enrollment urban pubs like Glenville, Woodward, and Trotwood Madison are now in Div III. Not sure how these schools end up with players from fairly wide drawing areas and in the case of Glenville drop 2 full Divisions in 5 years. I am not complaining as a fan of a private but I am not so sure that this is what the powers to be thought would happen when they drew up this plan.
