Welcome & Trechter Stadium Questions?

OK,

The Dayton Regional (now at Huber Heights) began at Welcome Stadium in 1965. For those that ran there during that era, here's the question I have:

Was the 180yd Low Hurdles run entirely over a straightaway at those two facilities? Or was the start on a turn, then finished on the straightaway? I don't have pictures of Welcome Stadium from that era, but I do of Trechter, and I know Trechter was configured so you could run an entire 220 yard on the front straightaway.

For those of you that competed or coached there during that time frame, any elucidation you could provide on the long hurdles set-up would be appreciated. I want to get my documentation correct.

I cant see them running a 180 without a turn. The finish line doesnt have a gate or bullpen after it to run out farther. Track has a wall all the way around it

Yes, I would believe the same with the existence of the wall. What I don't know is if that same wall existed during the earlier era of the stadium. Perc Welcome Stadium opened in 1949, and I know it held the National AAU Men's Championships twice in the 50's (1953, 1957) and the Women's AAU in 1963 & 1969. I'm going to try & find pictures of Welcome back in that time frame to see if the same wall existed.

Well, I quickly found online an article from late last year in the Dayton Daily News showing the stadium, track, & wall looking south toward the then to-be-built Dayton Arena. I suspect this was taken sometime in the late 1960'. The wall configuration is clearly there at that point in time.

I have a picture of Bob Schul running at the track in 1955 and it surely looks like the wall is in the background

Thanks for the info. While I can picture a 180yd straightaway for hurdles, I have difficulty allowing for any slowdown for the runners before they literally hit the wall.
