Msu open

I know this is a college event and a HS forum, but wondering how many former Ohio boys are wrestling at this. List former and current school. I plan on going and want to keep and eye out for the Ohio guys.

Here are a few names I know of:

Cornell Beachem: Winton Woods HS- ND College
Paul McKnight: Winton Woods HS- ND College
Mason Paris: Lawrenceburg HS- (SE Ind.) but trained a lot at Harrison - Michigan
Drew Mattin: Delta HS- Michigan
Shakur Laney: Pick. North HS- Ohio U

Track isn't releasing registration lists until tomorrow it looks like. Guessing there will be Ohio guys from OU, Ohio State, Oklahoma (Demas is scheduled to go), Notre Dame, maybe NIU. I'll post all the names I see tomorrow

Just came out to Yappi to see if anybody else was aware of where the brackets or wrestlers by school might be posted. I have been checking Trackwrestling all evening - and nothing.

Pretty stupid to hold a tournament and not put the names of wrestlers on a website so fans considering going to watch can at least see who is expected to wrestle. They have the number of wrestlers listed by school, so why is it so hard to put the names on a list? Can always state it may change.

Btw - I would expect Matt Stencil will be wrestling at 285 for Central Michigan. he is from Oregon Clay HS in Ohio.

Also seems like the number of schools represented is much lower than last year according to what Track has so far. I have a feeling many other schools will be represented and that will bring more Ohio HS kids with it. They have both the Open division and the Frosh/Soph division.

I went last year for the first day only. Jenison Field House is a dump. Hard to believe that is where Magic Johnson played in his 2 years at MSU. Also looked like they hadn't changed any lights in the place since he played there.

Excited to see Parris in college. Looking at the preview, Rayvon Foley/Shakur Laney/Drew Mattin at 125 will be interesting if any of those matchups happen.

Thank you. Just checked out the preview and the entrants seem to be pretty thin. Thought it would be a little better with the Eastern Michigan Open going by the wayside this year.

Freshman/Soph division:
2 Ohio State guys in the finals at 125 (Heinzelman vs. Koontz) and also at 141 (Kinner vs. Felix - wrestling unattached but from Ohio State)

Sammy Sasso also in finals of Freshman/Soph division at 149.

2 Ohio HS guys in the finals at 165 (Soehnlen vs. Yinger)

Ethan Smith from OSU going for 3rd at 174

Gavin Hoffman wins the title at 184 over OSU teammate Zach Steiner at 184 via MFF.

Chase Singletary in the finals at 285 vs. Ohio HS guy in Jon Spalding.

A lot of Ohio HS guys competing and doing well in this division.

OPEN DIVISION:

Drew Mattin (Delta HS and UM) loses in the finals to Rayvon Foley MSU

Anthony Tutulo in finals againt Mario Guillan (P'burg/OU) at 133

Moises Guillen lost to Profaci (Mich) in semi-finals by 3-2 score. Profaci wrestles UM teammate Storr in finals at 141. Dom Demas and Nate Hagan both lost in quarters.

Matt Stencil has 3 falls in 5:48 (1:49 - 3:25 - :34) to get to finals against Mason Parris of Michigan - who has won his three matches via fall in :34 a MD of 10-1 and a 10-4 decision.
Kam Teacher lost 2-0 to Ohio U's Zac Parker and is now in consi finals for 3rd place against Parker. Parker lost to Parris by 10-4.

Didn't list all the Ohio wrestlers, but for the most part the majority are competing in the Fresh/Soph division. OSU does not have any of their starters competing.

Also (on a national level) Aaron Brooks, who is greyshirting for Penn State, is in the finals at 184.

And nationally, Michael Beard, who like Brooks is greyshirting for PSU, won 197.

Wow - wonder what the heck happened there. Fall in 0:14 tells me that Stencil went for something like an inside trip off the opening whistle and got taken to his back by someone quick enough and strong enough to counter it. Just guessing, but wonder if that is pretty close to what happened. Anybody see it live or on video?

Steveson. No "n" before the "son" - but I know who you are talking about.

It is entirely possible it could happen. With Coon and Snyder out of the way, there is no dominant hvywght wrestler returning. I would say there are about 4-5 around the same level - and it would be pretty difficult for a couple of true freshman to push past them. They have a shot.

Per Michigan's Twitter- Stencel attempted headlock off the whistle, Parris counted for a pin of his own.
