A few observations...
125 is a sore spot if the current starter stays there.
133 looked like a typical Pletcher match
141 McKenna struggled with the back to back. He will be fine.
149 Mickey is lean and mean but still struggles on bottom.
157 Hayes is really undersized.
165 I was most excited about this kid. He does not look like a breakout star. He’s not an AA at this point. Not even close.
174 Conditioning sucks
184 Myles is unreal. Will win #2.
197 Let’s get Moore back. Quick
285 Kerkvliet cant get here soon enough.

.
How many people believed Romero would be close to AA caliber, as a Freshman? The Navy wrestler has nearly as good of a chance, of becoming a breakout star.

imo
- If Romero qualifies for nationals and scores any team points, his season will be a success.

125 Heinselman is marginally better than Meade, but neither likely is podium worthy at this point.
133 Steady but not a bonus machine.
141 On Friday night he wrestled in the NWCA All Star meet and beat 2x AA Brock from OKST. He probably had a little jet lag.
149 TF'ed #19. Looking pretty good at his new weight.
157 Maybe too small to AA. Time will tell.
165 Doesn't look ready to AA.
174 Not expecting much other than R12 or 16.
184 Bookend titles.
197 Not sure where Moore is.
285 Not sure if Traub is starter, but it probably doesn't matter.

Just saw this about Moore:

"Snyder stepped into the lineup for No. 3 Kollin Moore at 197 lbs. Moore is wrestling on the U23 World Team later this month in Romania at 97 kg., and was held out to avoid cutting 15 lbs. for the dual and then bulking back up for a run at a world title."

I'd have to think Myles Martin would have been held out also if it wasn't at his home gym.

I also think Kaleb Romero being a four time champ increased some people's expectations. He's more Jake Danishek than Bo Jordan.

Danishek never panned out the way I thought he would.
BTW...He's wrestling today at the Hokie Open.

MyMar is wrestling 86kg (189 lbs) so he only has a 3 lb difference in U23 wt and NCAA wt. Moore is wrestling 97kg (213 lbs) and has a 16 lb difference. I think the issue is keeping his bulk up to optimize his performance at U23. That's not an issue for MyMar.

On Romero, I was hoping that him being a part time wrestler in HS would lend itself to a higher learning curve in college. That still may be the case, but I agree he's not a Bo Jordan (not many are).

Myles and Kollin will miss the duals against Cal Baptist and Arizona State. Gonna be tough to win against ASU without them.

You were his coach so you’re supposed to be biased. I truly hope I’m wrong. I was in the club hoping that redshirting and wrestling full time would make a big difference.

Is 165 a tough cut for him?

All freshman have bumps in the road - and 165 in the B1G is sick tough (look at Flo rankings) - but I know his ability level and I have tremendous faith in the tOSU staff. Biased, yes but not in analysis of his matches - I just don’t share it publically for obvious reasons. Never have been and still am not. He will adjust and get better wrestling guys who do literally nothing but block and try to win by doing nothing offensive.

So are you saying you are out of the club now? After 1 match?

Micah Jordan is a way different wrestler now than as a Rs-Fr. I believe the same pregression will be seen in Kaleb.

Lost Octopus: Is cut to 165 to much? Understand / appreciate the question but it is immaterial. That’s his weight class and will do what’s necessary to be there.

Hopefully Kaleb ends up like Kolin. Both come from smaller High Schools and were multi-sport athletes. Tough guys can win matches.

Danishek was mentioned. I wonder how he'd have done in a different room? Indiana in the waning days of Duane Goldman era wasn't a productive place.

As for Romero, take the long view. He moves well and has real speed. He's in the process of learning how to finish at the D1 level. He's being tested. If he can keep making progress, he'll be special.
