Elder Kids & Junior High Wrestling Sign Ups Open

Wrestling Sign-Ups for Elder Kids Grades 6 & under and Jr. High(West Cincinnati Wrestling) Grades 7-8

Sign ups for the Elder Kids Wrestling club and the Junior High Wrestling Team are now open. The wrestling programs are for boys and girls in grades 8 and under. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Registration Link Here

These programs are intended to provide grade school kids with a chance to learn the "fun and fundamentals" of wrestling and prepare for the High School program. The Elder Kid's team is an instructional program for boys and girls grade 6 and under. The team competes with 30 other kids clubs around the city. Fun and Fundamentals is the goal.

West Cincinnati Wrestling Jr. High is designed to provide a transition to High School wrestling with competitive matches scheduled with other local 7th and 8th grade teams.

There will not be cuts from either of these teams and all will wrestle and learn the sport to the best of their ability and ours.

Additions to Coaching Staff or New Head Coach with loss of Coach Spence? This may have already been posted and if I missed it, sorry.

Elliot will definitely be missed on the junior high staff this year. He has taken over the Mount St. Joseph University wrestling program. The junior high program is still in good hands though. Long time coaches Tom Grady and Matt Wessendarp return. We have added 2 new young guys to the junior high staff this year - Jake Schultz and Ian Gillespie. Both are former Elder wrestlers. Jake went on to wrestle for Notre Dame College and Ian went on to wrestle at Heidelburg University. The kids team has the entire staff back again.

These are 2 great programs to get your kids involved in. Again, no experience is necessary. We have long time experienced coaches who know how to teach the basic skills needed to succeed. It's a proven system that works.

We have a lot of wrestlers that give it a try as freshman which is great, but think about how much better off they would be if they had a year or two under their belt in the junior high program. Any kids that are thinking about wrestling in high school will do themselves a huge favor by going out for the junior high team this year.

Here are the Junior High weight classes for those thinking about signing up for the team:
80, 86, 92, 98, 104, 110, 116, 122, 128, 134, 142, 150, 160, 172, 205 and 245

Cool! The success of this program should continue then!

Wrestling sign ups are still open! Click on the link below to get signed up.

The first practice for the junior high team is Monday, November 6th at Elder from 6:30-8:00pm. If you have already signed up for basketball, we will work around your schedule and try to wrestle also. Anyone thinking about wrestling in high school really needs to get at least one year in with the junior high club. Only 13 freshmen made the Elder basketball team last year. Wrestling is a great sport with NO cuts!

The junior high team had their first practice last night. It is not too late to sign up for this season. Feel free to stop in and check out a practice TONIGHT at Elder from 6:30 - 8:00pm. We are willing to work around your basketball schedule if you already signed up for basketball. I know there are a lot of junior high kids wanting to try wrestling, but have already committed to basketball. You can stop in for a free trial. The junior high has a great staff eager to work with you.

The returning kids team wrestlers also started last night. It is also not too late to sign up for the kids team. All NEW wrestlers will not start until next Tuesday, November 14th at Elder. Stop in and give it a try.

Lewis was clearly intense when speaking about a sport close to his heart, one that he says has made him the ferocious and technically sound NFL player he is today: wrestling.

“That has been my key for a long time,” said Lewis, who won the Florida state title at 189 pounds in 1993 while at Kathleen High School in Lakeland. “Wrestling is still one of the reasons why I swivel my hips; it’s been everything for me.“The principles that you learn in wrestling, none of that changes. It carries over, and if you stick to those things, the low man always wins.[Wrestling] teaches you what most people want to do, which is make your hips and butt work for you,” said Lewis, demonstrating a wrestling shoot position into a one-legged takedown. “You always want to go low; you never want to walk up to an opponent standing up. Everything has to be engaged. You have to be locked and loaded. That is what makes you shift so easy. Football is that natural shoot and tackle.”
- Ray Lewis
