As we head into week 2 there is some quality matchups to look forward to involving teams aspiring to be playing in November in this region:

Kirtland vs Columbia Station: Columbia has been a playoff team the 2 years it's been in this region, but been bounced in week 11. Props to them for scheduling up with the favorites of this region, who is well documented their success over the years.

South Range vs Western Reserve: After missing the playoffs for the first time in a long time, Reserve has much hype around them and they delivered in week 1. Now they got a south Range team that was the #1 seed in D5 last year and look equally as strong. A win for Reserve here will be very impressive.

Springfield vs Brookfield: Both teams lost tough openers, and an 0-2 start will be crushing for their playoff hopes. They've played some classic games over the last few years.

McDonald vs Columbiana: McDonald got a nice win over Brookfield in week1 and a win here will put them in position to try to get back to the playoffs. Columbiana just missed the playoffs last year after being the 3 seed in 15. The Clippers got crushed in week 1 and will be looking to get on track.

East Palestine vs Perry: EP had a heartbreaking loss to D4 Salem in week 1 and now have a daunting task to play one of the top teams in D4 in Perry. An EP upset would surely provide oodles of Harbin points.

Mogadore vs Geneva: Mogadore playing up against a D3 squad. I know next to nothing about Geneva but playing up that high will be a challenge I assume.

Liberty vs Lakeview: Liberty had playoff aspirations after a 5-5 season last year, a win over Lakeview could propel them but a loss and 0-2 start will put them in a hole.

Using the game projections on F50 mostly, plus some intuition of my own, here is playoff projections heading into week 3

1: Mogadore 10-0, 25.8
2- Norwayne 10-0, 25.4
3- Western Reserve 9-1 19.4
4- Kirtland 9-1 (loss to CH) 18.95
5- Rootstown 8-2 (loss to Garfield, Mogadore) 18.90
6- Smithville 8-2 (lose to Dalton, Norwayne), 16.75
7- Columbia 6-4 (lose to Northwestern, Keystone, Buckeye) 14.00
8- McDonald 8-2 (lose to WR), 13.6

Columbiana 6-4 (loss to Springfield, Lisbon, EP) 12.95
Independence 7-3 (loss to CH, Kirtland) 12.95
East Palestine 7-3 (loss to Lisbon) 13.0
Springfield 6-4 (loss to McD, WR) 10.4

See I'm not sure on those teams so I pretty much went with the projections, which aren't even that dialed in yet due to the amount of information we have this year (only 2 weeks worth). Rootstown has a decent test this coming week as well that we can see how good they are.

I can see 8-2 to 10-0 for Mogadore. It all depends on how much the offense develops as the season progresses.

Not too many big inter-regional games tonight, but some of the playoff contenders will have a nice test tonight and a win can provide big harbin points. Mogadore vs Norton, Norwayne vs Keystone, Rootstown vs East Canton, Western Reserve vs Steubenville Catholic Central, Columbia vs West Salem Northwestern, and Brookfield vs Cuyahoga Heights are all games to keep an eye on tonight.

The only inter-conference game between playoff contenders is Columbiana vs Springfield. This is an absolute must win for Springfield to stay alive. A win for Columbiana would put them in great shape heading to league play. The loser of this game will find it rough to make it to November

Big wins tonight from the region contenders. Columbia, Rootstown, Mogadore, Western Reserve, Norwayne, and Springfield all with nice wins.

Mogadore vs Rootstown in week 10 is shaping up to have huge playoff implications. Perhaps a home playoff game on the line.

I agree. Both will have stern tests throughout the season. I am looking forward to the Moggy/Gilmour game in two weeks.

Mogadore should be pretty set to get a home game even with a loss to Rootstown. Norton is going to provide a ton of points for the Cats.

Here's my latest playoff projections using the F50 data:

1- Mogadore 10-0, 25.40
2- Norwayne 10-0, 25.10
3- Kirtland 10-0, 22.8
4- Western Reserve 9-1, 19.77
5- Columbia Station 8-2, 19.30
6- Rootstown 8-2, 17.65
7- Smithville 8-2, 16.65
8- McDonald 8-2, 14.25

9- East Palestine 7-3, 13.7
10- Independence, 7-3, 12.95
10- Brookfield 6-4, 11.44
11- Springfield 6-4, 10.5

Obviously there's still some big games that'll certainly shake this up going forward. Some inter-region games to look forward to are Moggy-Rootstown, Norwayne-Smithville, WR-Springfield-McDonald all play each other.

I would love to see Mogadore host McDonald again in week 11. Two great small school football towns.

Agreed, loved our visit in 2014 (minus the result of the game). Such an awesome atmosphere in that stadium. Given how young our team is this year (only 3 seniors start) it would be a great learning experience to build off of no matter the outcome.

Kirtland has to play Cuyahoga Hts @ CH this year, so a more likely record for the Hornets may be 9-1. That game should be a very good game. Even with a loss to CH, I think that Kirtland will finish 3rd or 4th in the region, but be a tough out for whomever they meet in the playoffs.

What week is the Kirtland-Cuyahoga game? As a Marion Local fan, that is a game of interest. I keep envisioning a CVC vs MAC final in both D6 and D7. Kirtland in particular is on a short list of small schools that is on par with the top tier MAC programs.

Yep, I just think the Hornets will beat CH this year. You're correct though even with a loss that game Kirtland will in all likelihood be hosting. Tough out is an understatement, Kirtland is the favorite for sure.

A pretty quiet week 4 for the playoff contenders, they all took care of business against weaker opponents. As has been the case the last few years, this region is going to be a bear to make it and teams will need at least 8-2 to have a shot. Currently 5 unbeatens in the region, and 4 of them play each other (Norwayne vs Smithville week 6, Rootstown vs Mogadore week 10).

Week 5 has some big games on the slate: (4-0) Mogadore hosts D5 (4-0) Gilmour Academy. (4-0) Norwayne hosts D7 (4-0) Dalton. (3-1) Columbia Station hosts D3 (4-0) Medina Buckeye. (3-1) McDonald hosts (2-2) Springfield in a matchup of regional playoff contenders that's pretty much a must win for both to control their playoff fate going forward.

I had them losing an EOAC game, but after another week of resultd I do not see that happening and have them at 8-2 when I finally sit down and look at the F50 numbers

Thanks Kingpin. I just do not see enough points coming from this league as a whole. Dogs had to beat Salem to make it I'd believe.
