Project HS Football Watch....

I have seen my fair share of varsity high school football games over the many many of years and have documented 1684 of them. I finally finished transferring results to a spreadsheet as I became curious how teams fair when I watch them as well as who I have actually seen and who I have not.....

I have seen 453 Ohio schools play and 133 out of state including Canada....

Which teams had the best winning percentage of games that I saw..... well, no real surprises here.... must have seen them a minimum of 10 games to qualify...

1 Marion Local 25-3 89.29% I had seen them win 19 straight before finally dropping one.

2 St. Edward 33-6 84.62% I am kind of surprised by this since most of the games I see them play are playoffs, against Iggy, or the GCL South teams....

3 Coldwater 23-5 82.14% I watch the Coldwater/Marion Local just about every year of late so something has to give....

4 Mass-Washington 13-3 81.25% Well, the Paper Tigers get it done when I watch them... Maybe they should pay me to come to their playoff games... lol

5 Clinton Massie 8-2 80%

6 Colerain 40-11 78.43% Most of those losses are playoff losses. 2 of those losses came to Wayne, the only public school team that I have seen beat Colerain.

7 Wapakoneta 22-7 : 75.86

8 Wayne 301-97-3 75.44% I've seen every Wayne game starting in the year 1981

9 Columbus Hartley 15-5 : 75%

10 Ft. Recovery, Turpin, and Hoban all at 9-3 75%

================================================== ===

On the opposite side of the spectrum some schools that probably do not want me to watch their games....

Fairborn 1-20
Stebbins 1-13
Springfield North 3-24
Xenia 4-30-1
Beavercreek 6-37
Fairfield 2-10
Anderson 2-8

================================================== =

Others of interest....

Centerville 30-30
Fairmont 8-28
Springfield 7-15
Springfield South 7-19
Trotwood 21-17
Northmont 8-18

Elder 14-17
Moeller 26-19
LaSalle 16-7
St. Xavier 26-23
St. Ignatius 22-16

Canton McKinley 7-9
Glenville 7-11
Hilliard Davidson 15-8
Mentor 10-13

Now I get to start on my basketball spreadsheet. I don't go back as far as I did on football as I did not document games that I went to until just recently.....

oh well, just killing time until football season!!!!!!

no, this list includes games I watched via TV or internet as well. All the Wayne games I have seen in person plus games that I went to on Thursday and Saturdays. Plus, Crosstown Showdown games, Ohio-USA challenge as well as playoff games. Not sure of an exact number that I have actually seen in person but if I was to guess likely 7 to 8 hundred....

Yeah, that 736 total is all in person. 581 of those were just in the past six years.

You've been pretty busy the last 6 years then. I'm locked in with the Wayne games with over 400 consecutive games and counting so there isn't really many options in the area for Thursday and Saturday games. My buddy that I used to go to all the games with moved away over 10 years ago and since then my health has deteriorated so I am happy going to the Wayne games and a couple of other games in the area and then watching some great match-ups on the internet..... my days of seeing 40+ games in person a year are likely over...

Completely understand. My wife and I have a one-year old now, so that's definitely going to limit some of the travel. But, we're still planning games in Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, South Dakota, and Florida for this year. Possibly New York as well.

Saturday games in Western PA and Eastern OH are fairly limited as well. Private schools dot the place, and a few unlit fields (Sheffield PA, Western Beaver PA, Bellaire, Shaker Heights, etc). There's a few schools that still have Homecoming games on Saturday (day or night). Ambridge, McKeesport, and Quaker Valley did formerly. While Beaver, Freedom, and Shaler still do. Then there's Bedford/Maple Heights that has been playing in the afternoon (or Thursday night) for several years due to crowd concerns. And then the rare oddball long-distance traveling team moving a game to Saturday (Port Clinton @ Conneaut OH a few years ago).

Thursday's even worse. Parma and Pittsburgh regularly have/had Thursday games. TV puts a few on Thursday around Cleveland. And the Autumn Leaf Festival in Clarion PA moves local games to Thursday. Just as Bristol, Tennessee does in Week 0 because of Bristol Motor Speedway's racing that weekend. Or a teacher-in-service day sometimes bumps games back to Thursday. And Yom Kippur moves back some games to Thursday around Cleveland every so often.
