If I had a vote it would have been for Joey, but it was really close. Joey had better OBP and OPS by a sizable margin, but Stanton had runs scored and RBIs by a large margin. Both had good defensive years. These guys should have been 1 & 2 on every ballot, and I have no complaint with Stanton winning.

Having said that, how on earth does Votto not win the Silver Slugger for 1B???

Stanton's 59 HRs and 132 RBIs were pretty compelling #s in the eyes of voters. His advantage there over Votto was huge.
All in all, I would have loved to see Votto win, but it could have gone either way and still been a fair result.
Closest result since 1979. Unfortunately, Stanton got the 2-point edge. All congrats to him. Joey was classy as ever in his response.

I certainly did not expect anything less from Joey. And it will be interesting to see if the MVP gets traded before playing another game with Miami. The overall increase in home runs by all of baseball should have been a component as well.
