Away from the pack, mostly for the exercise. Take my cart back into the store, also.

As far away as possible (weather depending) but not out of fear but as EagleGuy noted for the exercise. My doctor told me years ago that if I parked in the boondocks everywhere I went (shopping, movies, sports, etc.) the extra walking really adds up over time and amounts to some serious cumulative exercise. Made sense to me though when others are in the car they often don't share my enthusiasm for distant parking.

Seriously? One person on here prefers to get the best spot he sees? Yappi has some big time odd-balls. You'd think the back of the lot was the crowded area based on the people on here.

OR maybe we as a group do not like crowds? Or we as a group think more than the average person which kind of is logical considering we take our free time to think and post our random thoughts on here concerning preference of where to park our car.

I said it didn't matter to me. I'll take the closest spot, if it's easy enough to get, but I don't seek it out. As long as I get a reasonable spot, I'm fine.

Because you prefer to park farther away you're going the route of "we think more than the average person?" You must be joking.

Which is probably the most reasonable thought process here. I am similar, but flip the order a bit. I seek out the best spot, and if I quickly identify no good spot, I will look for the next reasonable option.

Yeah chances of a door ding are way higher than what drod suggested. I try not to park next to big suvs if I can help it, because they are wider and usually have more careless kids flinging the door open. At least mini vans have those sliding doors.

Never saw a kid drag a coat zipper over a car much less do damage. That's a new one.

My wife always wants the best spot too. So sometimes I don't take it on purpose just to annoy her.

I never take the closest spot.

And if I see some able bodied idiot park in a handicap spot on my way in I go back and get my tire iron.

It may be more, but I doubt by much. .001% would be 1 in every 100,000 times you park. It may be closer to .01% (1 in every 10,000 times you park), and almost certainly less frequent than .1% (1 in every 1,000 times you park). I estimate that since I've been driving (13 years), I've parked at the very least 5,000 different times, and probably closer to 8,000. In any event, definitely not a common enough occurrence to change daily/weekly behavior IMO.

Well, then my wife's car is an outlier with bad luck, because she easily has at least 8-10 minor dings and scratches (probably more) on the sides of her car. Looking at other cars in parking lots, I'd say her car looks pretty normal though, so maybe you are the outlier.

Maybe so. If she's had 8-10 dings from others while parked in a parking lot she has horrible luck... and that would in fact drive me to be more selective with my parking spot.

Parked at the gym the other day, and literally while we are still sitting in the car a woman parks right next to us and flings her door open without a care in the world and slams it into ours. She then proceeds to not even acknowledge it, go look in her trunk, and then walk right into the gym. We sat dumbfounded

Wow, sorry Bluth. I will say, those who spend any amount of time looking for the closest spot at the gym are quite funny.

On top of all that, she's probably been brainwashed by the progressive left and their plan to eliminate sexes by portraying women in action movies into thinking should could actually kick your azz if you said anything to her. Omg, lotr is right!

Years ago I parked next to my boss at work(I was 22yrs old). I opened my door and big gust of wind grabbed my door and slammed it into his leaving a nice dent! I was panicked, so I moved to a new spot lol.

The first available spot, try to park on one of the sides, the middle spots tend to fill up. It amazes me, and follow this logic... Many people will drive around the parking lot to find the closest spot...then proceed to go in the store/ mall and walk 3 miles??
