I don't know enough about SJJ to make a prediction. I do know they are a top-tier program in Ohio, and are well coached and play a tough schedule. They will have the advantage of being close to, and possibly even familiar with, the venue and court. Elyria will travel well, though. They've been battle-tested in their league, as well. They have the guard play that's required at this level, including a true big-gamer in Blanton. They have two talented big men in Lotko and Koepp. They are well rounded. If I knew more about SJJ, I would attempt a prediction, but all I can do now is offer that Elyria will be a tough out.

Judging by Elyria's schedule, I don't think they've seen a team like SJJ. Their defensive intensity and athletism are overwhelming, it's why they've won 22 straight. Vincent Williams, their 6'5 superstar junior has gone to another level in the tournament capped off by his 29 point/9 rebound/5 block district final. If Elyria doesn't have anyone to stop him it will be a long night.

Williams does not appear to be athletic, but they trust him to bring the ball up court sometimes--by design. Inside he is a monster. Multiple blocked shots last night along with 29 points. He plays above the rim consistently. Elyria will have to be very disciplined to beat St. Johns.

Well, Elyria did a great job holding down Lorain's 6'6 athletic Naz Bohanan, who I believe was NE district D1 player of the year, so that's something at least. The one win on the SJJ schedule that stands out to me is against St. Ed's. It's never easy to beat Ed's, so SJJ is clearly formidable.

I don't understand how someone 6'5 and consistently plays above the rim isn't athletic.

Who are Elyria's best player and what do they do well as a team?

I think Elyria's league is a beast!
Mentor, Shaker, Solon, Medina, Brunswick... All traditionally solid programs.

neither do they. Go with it.

The important thing, he doesn't go into the game trying to prove it. SJJ cost themselves a shot playing to get Loving a MrB (MY opinion). I think they made final 4 only his Fr year and got it handed to them at that.

Balance. It's the role players, the D and bench that win D1 championships.

The Mckinley loss looms. Legit questions to be proven.

Not a lot of pregame chatter when you have a couple teams from different areas that have little overlap in common opponents. The schools aren't really that far apart, but they certainly have little in common with which to compare.

Does Elyria have any college players?

SJJ has 6'5 Williams (Offer from Wichita State and interest from Michigan and Purdue), 6'4 guard Houston King (offer from Kent State), 5'11 PG Harrison Riggs (Lake Erie Commit), and 6'3 F Tycen Anderson (DB commit to Toledo football).

Maybe, maybe not but it looks like they've beat a few.

SJJ had a lot of "college offers" playing against Hamilton's baseball players and it didn't do them much good. Hamilton played a tough week to week schedule. Elyria plays a tough week to week schedule. SJJ is going to have to keep the hammer down.

No doubt, just looking for more information on the team. Any team that makes it this far is here for a reason.

I did not say he WASN'T athletic. I said he doesn't APPEAR (look like an athlete) to be athletic. He doesn't run like an athlete. He looks like he might be a DT on the football team--broad shoulders and slightly hunched.

However he is a hell of a basketball player. Reminds me of John Flowers from BGSU from back in the day. Very long arms--great for blocking shots.

Let me help everyone on this post. Williams can make a shot, Bohannon makes layups. Elyria hasn't seen ANYTHING remotely close to SJJ. Mentor in their league saw a similar team in Massilon Jackson and lost by 40. SJJ will win this game by 25+ with Elyria having a hard time making 10 baskets in the game. Lorain beat no one all year that was a top tier team and got manhandled at home by Eds, who was their toughest opponent. SJJ, Moeller, Jackson are on a level that Elyria hasn't sniffed. Elyria's o/u is 40

OK--for the sake of peace on this board--you can tell by looking at him he is a tremendous athlete. Even if he walked into your house for the first time you could look at him and say he carries himself like a Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders.

Everybody happy?

Yep a beast to all other good programs, but none of these schools played a great schedule outside of their league. If you say they did, I say they didn't beat anyone of the echelon of a SJJ, Massillon Jackson, or even an Ignatius or Eds for that matter.

Just a fact. You must play the game but now it's big boy basketball and teams are going to be majorly exposed at this time of the year with the schedules they played throughout paying off one way or another.

Not sure how anyone can besmirch the Greater Cleveland Conference.
Here are the records of the GCC's top 6 teams and then their OUT OF CONFERENCE record (according to cleveland.com):

Elyria: 21-4, 10-1
Mentor: 21-5, 10-2
Medina: 18-7, 9-2
Brunswick: 16-8, 7-2
Solon: 17-8, 9-2
Shaker Hts: 12-13, 7-4
TOTAL OUT-OF-CONFERENCE: 52-13 (0.800)

Two teams other than Elyria (Medina & Mentor) have advanced to their respective Regional as well, for what its worth. Obviously a pretty strong conference. Actually 2 conferences, the GCC & the Federal League (Jackson, Lake) account for 5 of the 7 regional representatives from NEO (NEDAB Districts).

Got "majorly exposed" by one point in Toledo, with a tough no-call at the end.

Yep. Elyria beat a really good Lorain team that they lost to earlier in the year. Lorain had 12 games against teams in district finals, 5 games against teams in regionals
