Long Grey Line, sees it from a distance. I watch this every couple years.

There's a "Tales From the Crypt" episode, "Yellow," well worth watching for those that like Paths of Glory.

Great Escape

Richard Widmark in a couple of my favorites.
The Bedford Incident
Judgement at Nuremburg.

Post WWII Germany recovery is interesting to me.
The Big Lift: Montgomery Clift
Bridge of Spies: Hanks

Best Years of Our Lives set a standard.

Post WWII

Platoon
Year of Living Dangerously

Post-post today

Battlefield Earth

just kidding.

You guys have hit most of my favorites. I would add The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921), The Big Parade (1925) and Academy Award Best Picture winner, Wings (1927), all silent and Sergeant York (1941), which was not silent but was a good WWI movie. The WWI films of the 20's use a lot of equipment that was not available for later films and utilized a lot of veterans of the war as actors.

A special WWII gem is Mrs. Miniver (1942) showing the home guard in Britain and the only depiction of the heroic "little ships" of the Dunkirk evacuation.

I just watched Mrs. Miniver for the first time! Pretty good. "Dunkirk" is to be released in July. Filmed on location, I'm hoping it will be good.

Not technically a movie, but Band of Brothers. The interviews with Easy Co are what pushes it over the top.

I am looking forward to this film. I hope they don't screw it up. One of the most compelling episodes in the history of warfare but, for some reason, has gotten very little attention from Hollywood. The idea of hundreds of civlian boaters, risking death at the hands of German U-boats to sale to Dunkirk, where the whole of the British army in continental Europe is pushed into the sea, in order to take these young men back to England to fight another day is a fantastic story and one worth telling well.

This event did get some screen time in the 2007 film Atonement, but this was not a main setting for the film and was not really about the evacuation.
