Congratulations to Josh Heil for making the tournament. True Freshman! Way to go Josh! Now can you imagine sitting near the parents if Dean has to wrestle Josh?

May not be Ohio related, but since Suriano isn't going to be wrestling at NCAAs, whos going to take his place?

That's official?
He got a bid, obviously.

Moisey got one last year and forfeited it to Laney. I heard that he couldn't even walk properly at the Big 10s.

Fake news. He got a wild card bid. The question is where he will be seeded and how effective he will be with a bad leg.

We've already determined he has a bid. Will he heal in time to wrestle?
eucwrestler says, "No." Sanderson says, "It will be a day by day decision."
bdhof says, "how effective will he be? Suriano says, "Cricket, cricket...."

on the flow podcast today they made it sound like he will try and wrestle but won't be very effective. They said he was on crutches at B10. If that is the case it will be interesting to see if he gets seeded.

Final tally:
30 Ohio wrestlers get in. Seems pretty average, grabbed 6 from wild cards

So less than 10%. Seems a little low to me.
What has it been?

Looks to me like the south is growing. Without looking at the numbers from 2015, I see Florida with 7 this year, Georgia with 8, Texas with 5, and Alabama got Womack from Cornell. None of those states even have a D1 program

The number over the years for Ohio has sat in the 30 range. I don't have the exacts though.
By OHSAA geography:
NE - 15
SW - 9
C - 3
NW - 2
E - 1
SE - 0
By high school
5 - St. Edward
3 - Graham
2 - Moeller, Marysville, Massillon Perry, Lexington
everyone else is at a single

Just like to do the numbers every year and this year 28 of 31 of the national qualifiers were USA-Ohio members during high School!

Recent Greater Cleveland qualifier numbers:
2015 21
2016 16
2017 12
I know the area has had, at least, as high as 25 in the past.

St Eds has some freak streak with NCAA All Americans. I dont think that streak is in jeopardy this year at all with Walz and Heil and i am sure i am missing someone but what about next year? who else do they have in the pipeline?

DIII has seven from Ohio in the field
DII has 25 (+/-) from Ohio in the field.
Those events are this weekend, D3 is in LaCrosse WI and D2 is in Birmingham AL (D2 is part of the champ-fest type event).

Abounader is back off redshirt. He will be their best chance.

Scheidel took the year off from school but will be back for Columbia next year and will be in the mix to at least AA. Has wrestled at some international events this year in NYC and Colorado and held his own. Bentley will have a shot and likely be up at 133. Hart and Campbell will be st Missouri but don't know if they crack the lineup or not. Staying healthy will be the biggest factor as usual.
