Western Reserve - Looks like 6 Home games, 3 Away games, and 1 "N" site game against South Range, does this mean Neutral? The past few seasons have been 6 Home games one year, the next year 4 Home games, then 6, then 4...

Glad to see South Range on the schedule again, they really took it to us last season, see if the boys are up for the challenge this year. Hopefully the linebacker #44 graduated, if not hopefully someone can trip and fall in his way, we certainly couldn't block him on purpose. :-)

I'm assuming N is supposed to be A, but I took it straight from the schedules thread. I wonder why Reserve didn't straighten that out since it's an all new league schedule to get it back on track at 5 home and away. While 6 home games must be nice, having only 4 the next year would suck

Well, let's hope someone can at least pretend to get into his way this year, he setup shop in our backfield last year, made play after play after play. :-)

I would assume not everyone was going to be happy with the new league schedule, we are @ Springfield again this year, but the rest of them look right from a home vs away perspective.

Yeah, the 4 Home game years pretty much suck, just the way it has been though.

That makes it even crazier as McDonald hosts Springfield again in 2017 after hosting in 2016. You'd think a simple solution would be to flip them. Not that I'm complaining, looking forward to Springfield, Reserve, and Brookfield all traveling to McDonald this year after having 3 of the 4 toughest games on the road last year.

Mogadore was slightly smaller, Southeast and Crestwood were slightly bigger. Still, all these schools were close in enrollment.

Then times change. Windham left because their enrollment declined significantly. Waterloo's enrollment is dropping as well. Streetsboro and Woodridge have experienced a huge gain in enrollment. At Rootstown, our enrollment has been steady and not changed much.

Why did Mogadore leave the old Suburban league in 1968? For the 10 years they were in the league they only won one league championship, but got to play against Green (20 min away), Copley (21 min away), Revere (30 min away), Hudson (29 min away), Nordonia (17 min away). Why would they not stay in that league?

Answer is simple, they left for a league where they could compete with schools their own size, which was the PCL. Windham just left for a league their own size. Field left the PCL in 78 for the Suburban to play schools their own size because they had outgrown the PCL, but returned in 1990 when enrollment dropped. Southeast, Crestwood, Streetsboro and Woodridge have all shuffled between the county and metro division, why? Because their enrollment changed.

You see, Waterloo is not doing anything that all of the other PTC schools haven't done themselves historically already (including Mogadore). Position themselves in a league that is based on schools similar in enrollment. Criticizing them would be hypocritical, so I wish them good luck in the new league.

Garfield has looked to leave the league, everyone knows that. I really wish Rootstown would follow suit and get us in a league that would be comparable. It's going to be a long few years coming up for us.
Your numbers are off. From the mid 80s through the 90s - Southeast, Crestwood and Fieldv were all close to 300 boys while Windham and Mogadore were at 100. 3 to 1

7 home games this year. I believe we played Columbiana at Home last year so that may change. South Range was Away last year so the Home against them makes sense if it's another 2 year agreement. 2 very tough Away games though...

Berlin Center Western Reserve
08/25 H Columbiana
09/01 H Canfield South Range
09/08 H Steubenville Catholic Central
09/15 H Sebring McKinley
09/22 H Mineral Ridge
09/29 H Lowellville
10/06 A New Middletown Springfield
10/13 H Atwater Waterloo
10/20 A McDonald
10/27 A North Jackson Jackson-Milton

That's an insane schedule if correct, not going on the road till October. Then 2 tough road games in 3 weeks. I like the McDonald-Reserve game is week 9 now, I hope it stays there (except it'll never get GOTW over Ursuline-Mooney). But the past few years after the game both teams just breezed through the last 3 or 4 regular season games.

With the new enrollment numbers listed, it looks like Reserve will be back in D7 next season. McDonald will be on the border, but looks like they'll stay in D6.

Those numbers don't take into consideration competitive balance. Depending on open enrollment numbers, they could still be D6. Though, 95 boys seems to be a safe number...just depends on how many OE kids they have on the roster.

I would think the divisional cutoffs might be lower this count?

I'd think higher...since you have to add in students for the competitive balance adder.

While true, I think 95 is a safe number for D7 unless they are pulling a lot of OE students, which I personally do not know. The old cutoff was 99, that's going to get artificially raised due to open enrollment so I think they'll be D7

If they raise the cutoffs, would not that defeat the purpose of competitive balance?

Everyone's numbers will go up a little bit because of the adder. I just think the bottom number will be higher...maybe 110 at the top. Closer to 105...

No because not everyone is getting equal amount added to their numbers. Private schools and schools with a lot of open enrollment will see much higher increases.

To put it as an example. The cutoff for D7 last year was 99. Say now 5 schools with the competitive balance get bumped up solidly into D6, that means the bottom 5 of D6 go to D7 raising the bar.

Technically then if say 10 D6 schools get bumped to D5 from mid D6, the schools under them all drop 10 spots. Is this what you are saying?

if the numbers of schools playing stay the same.....

then the top 72 go d1 and the remainder are split down 6 ways, so yes if schools see a significant increase because of competitive balance then yes the schools they leap frog potentially could move down a division if they are close to the line which could move up above them.

I don't think we have many or any open enrollments after 7th grade currently, will have to wait and see, maybe I will ask one of the coaches if they know of any.

Division VII sounds good to me, know that coach Hake's attitude about it is "We have had success in Division VI before" so it's just a Fan thing for me. We are one of the many small schools in the area with a majority of home town boys (home town for us = a couple of gas station / convenience stores and a Pizza joint). :-)

Here's the enrollment numbers of the teams in the conference:
Waterloo: 153
Springfield: 124
Mineral Ridge: 116
McDonald: 111
Western Reserve: 104
Jackson-Milton: 93
Lowellville: 65
Sebring: 60

Waterloo may end up D5. Springfield, Ridge, McDonald look to be D6. WR bubble put probably 7, the others for sure D7

So Waterloo leaves league where they are bigger than Lake Center, MOGADORE, Rootstown and J.A. Garfield to be 30+students bigger than the next school in the MVC. Had they stayed in PTC, they would be only behind Southeast and Crestwood and in the same division.. Still think bad move, they may compete but by playing very small schools while giving up short trips and long standing rivalries. .

Unless they improve by leaps they won't compete with McD, WR, or Springfield. 4th place is attainable as I expect JM to not be that good and the others have been awful the last 2 years.

I am really surprised by Waterloo's number ... 153 seems really high for them. They have been typically have been between 110 and 125.

Thought the same thing since the old number was 110. Double checked the ohsaa count and it's 153. McDonald's is also as high as I can remember, usually it's around 100 and this count 111.

How many of those games drop off the schedule in 2018? Does this mean they have 7 away games that year?

Well they only had 4 home games last year. Would really such for them if in 2018 they only have 3 home games.
