Doubt Mack comes. He's a Xavier alum and honestly I'm not sure OSU is a better job than XU anymore. I'd like Archie.

I don't know what good coach would want the Ohio State job. The sport takes a backseat to football at OSU, the arena has zero atmosphere, and fans don't show up to boot. How do you convince a top high schooler that this is the place for him

Matta did it before when that was still the case before. Used to get top 5 and top 10 type of talent out of high school. Oden, Conley, Cook, Turner, Mullins, Koufos, Sullinger etc etc. It can be done.

What Matta did before is going to be very difficult to repeat.

Those guys were all pretty local recruits too. I'm not sure that same talent has come out of the area in the past 5 years or so.

We'll probably see more of the freshman (~10 minutes per game) since Bates-Diop is out. Maybe Potter, too.

Great game. Bucks played the defense they need to, often taking Sparty deep into the shot clock. Do they finally "get it"?

The Big East is the most dynamic conference in college basketball right now and the rankings/ratings/revenue puts it at a level that doesn't compare to others. The fact that most of the schools are non-football schools ensuring basketball is King is very appealing to recruits.

Here is my take on Thad - I think this will be his last year, but they won't fire him mid-season.

The problem is that Thad used to really coach - get out on the floor in sneakers and show players how to do things (defend, position themselves, run breaks, catch & shoot, everything). I was lucky enough to see some practices. He was great, and he always had players that developed / improved through their career. Jamar Butler, Evan Turner, David Lighty, Jon Diebler, etc, etc.

Thad's physical condition (back/leg) has deteriorated to the point that he can barely stand/walk for periods of time. He needs help with normal daily activities. He can't coach like he used to, and the last few years no one has shown the same type of development that they used to (Loving, Amir, Thompson, etc. etc.).

So unless he lands a Mike Conley/ Greg Oden type class, we will be middle of the pack in the Big Ten with Thad...

I doubt it. Too much talent coming over the next couple of seasons.

The problem is last year's recruiting class was a total bust when they could afford it the least. Any coach will look like a genius when you recruit the likes of Turner, Conley, Sullinger, and Russell.

When you have four out of five busts in a recruiting class that had to hit, because of Russell unexpectedly being a one-and-done, you're in deep trouble. Let's recall the class as a whole got a fair amount of hype coming in. What is the probability that four of the five would be gone after their freshman year?

http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Seaso...etball/Commits

Other than blowing the Northwestern game, this team is doing about as well as its talent level right now. So, looking at the rest of the schedule, they probably won't win against Maryland, Wisconsin, Purdue, and away at Michigan State.

However, I'd say there are six games that are winnable against the other teams. If they could find a way to go 5-6 or 6-5 from here on out, I think that's about the best anyone could expect with no Bates-Diop, and no real bench at this point.

If Thad finds a way to get this bunch to 20 wins yet again, I'd make him Big Ten coach of the year, because he's working with about five "real DI players" right now. Wesson and Potter aren't truly "ready for prime time" right now, but they're having to play lots of minutes anyway.

Losing KBD was a total body blow to a team with no depth as it was. Coming into the year I thought he might end up the best player on the team

Thad brought this on himself with all the players that have gone plus the injury but he still can coach with what he has left.Next year may not be any better if he doesn't get a couple of BIG time recruits.
