So, for the 100th time, the transfers that took place in Coach Simpsons first year were, kid from Lima that moved back, his son, kid from Elida that basically was his other son (Wilson) his nephew (a Lima kid) and a 10th grade jv player. Last year, no transfers. This year 2 from Puerto Rico, one kid from Columbus that used to live in Lima.. Quite the little factory we got going on huh?

Where have you been?
This has been happening for years.
As soon as Coach Simpson took the Lima Senior job kids essentially came back home.
Under the OHSAA thinking these Puerto Ricans should have spun a globe and went wherever there finger landed. I will say it 100 times over, the OHSAA has no business deciding what is best for people and their kids. Especially when they move from any distance. The OHSAA is so bad at their job that this is simply retribution due to public outcry from last year. The OHSAA is a reactive shame, with little oversight.

Why are you afraid to answer IB'S question? It doesn't matter where these kids come from, Ottawa Hills, Bowling Green, Michigan, PBurg or Toledo, kids get redshirted at SJJ for the sole purpose of basketball success.

SJJ beats Central 70-30. Really sad how far CCHS's basketball program has fallen in such a short time.

The Irish lost by 40?!? What the heck...
It's more frustrating than sad. In his tenure just five years ago, Jim Welling led his Irish teams to multiple City League titles and led Central Catholic to its first State Final Four appearance in decades. He's still in the building working in admissions...I can only imagine the places this program would be if Welling was still the head coach.
Thank God for football.

My point exactly. Simpson has AAU ties and has brought in guys from all over the state since he took the head coaching job. However, since the criticism is coming from an SJJ fan no one on this forum can be objective about it. I'm not even saying it's wrong, but to act like it's a coincidence that they all decided to move back to Lima when Simpson took the job is hilarious.
Also, interesting how the herd on this forum loves to criticize SJJ basketball for being a 'win at all costs' program. They have repeatedly shown over the last 8 years that they don't care if talented basketball players transfer away as underclassmen or if football guys with big time basketball talent don't play.

A kid taking a 'redshirt' year in junior high is not an act that exclusively happens at SJJ. It's been a trend that has been on the rise throughout the country in the last decade because many parents believe it increases the chance that their son or daughter will get a scholarship offer. In the last eight years, I can recall four SJJ players that have repeated a grade in the junior high. Only two of them did it via the academy. You're going to need more evidence than that to conclude that Ed is pressuring players to do that. It is 100% a decision that comes from the parents of an athlete.

SJJ gets criticized because of the moronic behaviors, the hypocrisies they led with and for not just a little, the obvious pandering of duh'local. You're getting just a small sample back of what was dealt. They acted superior to the "herd" while not playing on the same plain. If there had been humbleness and humility.... It is what it is, it's not personal to you.
However, your twisting of words and intent of others doesn't help. Who here said it was "coincidence?" At least two posters, IB and S87 connected the dots with no hiding of fact. WHY the students were attracted to Lima isn't the issue, it doesn't seem to be in dispute. But it's exactly the claim any open-enrollment/private school would make as being a legitimate reason to attend their school, so posters are questioning why these kids particularly were treated in what seems a ham-handed way. There surely has to be more to OHSAA's reasoning other than "they're not from around here partner."
The "can play in season but not post?" Is there precedence for that? Reasonable speculation would seem it was to keep Lima Sr out of the way of other programs' advancement in states. Which programs would that be?

SJJ wins 59-41 at St Edwards. St. Eds is coming off a win against #4 Lorain. The Titans were led by their 2 super juniors who combined for 37 points. Best win of the season for SJJ showing they are improving and a tough out come March.

And SJ has AAU ties. Is it a coincidence SJ gets talented poor inner-city black kids into its program utilizing the 20/20 program? And we criticize SJ because they are an active contradiction. So how is Gardner (Bowling Green) or King (OH) choosing SJ because of AAU ties and THEN redshirting even though there was no need academically any different than the Lima Sr. situation if not worse? Last years slap on the wrist for Ed talking to Zeb Jackson was cute. Do not sit on the bench with team just sit a row back from them and still essentially coach. This is one microcosm of why the OHSAA is a sham.

You are 100% correct that this happens elsewhere for perceived athletic gain. Many times, when considering the cost of college today, redshirting may end up saving some parents what equates to $150,000+ when all said and done. My problem is that a school that holds its standards as high as SJ claims to hold them would allow honor roll students to transfer and repeat 8th grade at their "academy".

Very nice win. I read on another thread that St. Eds has 3 freshman on varsity. Do you know if any of them start? I cannot see them putting them on varsity to sit and with that said it sounds like Eds is a young team.
Regardless, nice road win.

So there was a need academically? Does this happen often at SJ Academy? Has a non athlete ever transferred and repeated the previous grade? You are in the building, answer honestly.
Ed was allowed to coach all week but could not coach in the game. Therefore he sat behind the team and the only difference was the fans were saved from his tirades and the floor was saved from foot stomps.

I'm not in the building and don't feel comfortable commenting further on 13 year olds and their academics.
And on your second point, he wasn't "behind the team." As I remember, he was in the middle of the Lima Senior parents during the district final at UT last year.

This obsession that you have with a couple of kids being held back is unbelievable. How do you know he is in the building? tracking his IP address? psychotic

TrackXC is the reasonable one. Track XC is the troll. I think. And I think our former not to be seen poster has returned with that new ID you called out, the one listing "Bowsher" as his school of choice

It's more a calling out the hypocrisy of some SJJ posters, not an indictment on the kids. Well, it is kind of weird for a kid with good academics to repeat in order to compete with a more mature physical stature but that goes on more places than just the academy.
It is a weird thing to do, right?.

Caught the Clay v Lima Sr. game.
Wow, Javier Quinones can really shoot the ball. If Clay is into moral victories they are about .500 this year. Coach O has them playing hard.
The game got pretty physical. I am trying to figure out if the Clay kids are hard nosed or just "that guy" in a fight who gets real loud once someone is holding him back.

Clay has always had a reputation of playing hard, but yes the kids really like playing for Coach Oberdick.

Any truth that SJJ had a nice transfer enroll at the school yesterday?
Also any word that SJJ/SFS will be switched to UT?

Yup. After losing by 40 points, Central Catholic's starting junior guard decided to take the easy route and transfer to a rival school (his 3rd school in 3 years). I have no respect for someone ditching their team right in the middle of the season.

What is the advantage of leaving during season. Will he still have to sit 11 games next year? What is going on over at Central. 3rd kid that has quit. Is Hunt the right person for job?

This cowardly gutless parenting at it's best. Kids at his 3rd school in 3 years for his 4th coach and will miss 22 games sitting out because of transfer rules all while dad wonders where the Kentucky, Duke and Kansas offers are. This is the same turd POS parent who created a profile on the Puddle calling for Nick Lowe to be fired.

All different circumstances in each case, it's a privilege to wear the jersey and some don't earn that privilege and others have rotten parents.

You're not out of the loop. You just haven't heard of him. Never lived up to all the hype that came with him.
