"closer to home" really means "i want more PT and if Jalen comes back, i'm probably not getting it here."

I don't think he was going to get it even without Jalen coming back. Xavier is looking hard at some transfers. Wouldn't have been surprised if LAJr had decided to transfer either.

Update: Larry Austin Jr is transferring as well. Leaves the Muskies at 11 scholarships if Jalen stays(10 if he leaves)

Agreed. He'll probably get some looks, but he'll end up over in Europe. Nothing wrong with that. Doellman and Brown are the two highest american paid players over there

so with Jalen leaving, here's a position breakdown of who we KNOW will be there next year:

1 - Sumner, MD, Goodin
2 - MD, Goodin, JP
3 - Bluiett, JP, Gates
4 - Bluiett, Gates, Gaston, Ekiyor, Jones
5 - O'Mara, Gaston, Ekiyor

obviously some guys are repeated as they can play multiple positions.

i heard we are still in the mix for Tarean Thompson, who is a big, but it looks like we are ok at the 4-5 position even with the losses of Farr and Reynolds. i think Farr is a bigger loss as we have no one i've seen who takes as much pride in going after offensive rebounds as he did. that will be the biggest loss, IMO.

i'd say we are thin at the guard position, unless Goodin can come in and light it up right away. otherwise, another guard off the bench to spell some guys or be able to play some meaningful minutes if someone gets in foul trouble would be nice.

Bluiett at the 4? Maybe against some teams. 6'5" is small for a 4, even in college.

Im pretty sure the majority of his minutes technically came at the 4 this season. Next will be a more even split between the 3 and 4 as Gates is an extremely athletic 4 who can defend anywhere from a 2-smaller 5s. X is looking to play a 4 out-1 in lineup.

This is how the depth chart currently looks and would play out if the season started today:

1 Sumner Davis
2 Davis Macura Goodin
3 Blueitt Macura Gates
4 Gates Blueitt Ekiyor Jones
5 Gaston O'Mara

You won't see Goodin run much PG this season. Mack only has his freshman learn one position and I believe that will be more of the 2 spot. That means the majority of the time, if Sumner is out, Davis will slide to the 1 with JP or Goodin coming in as the 2. Gaston is ahead of O'Mara and should be a beast on the boards.

I've heard he's been on campus and everyone I've talked to believes he will be back. Would be dumb for him to leave IMO

Bluiett started at the 4 pretty much all year. the most used starting lineup for X was this:

Sumner, MD, Abell, Bluiett, Reynolds

If Bluiett has another offseason of improvement in his strength/quickness/weight/etc like he did this past offseason, i feel like he should be able to slide to the 3, let Gates take over that 4 spot, and then the 5 is up for grabs from all of the other bigs.

i should've stated that this is under the assumption that Bluiett goes through the NBA pre-draft process but decides to come back.

Bluiett needs to show he can play the 2/3 position to position himself better as a pro.

Agreed....and I love Bluiett but the thing that is gonna kill him is his lack of athleticism. He is a great shooter but he goes cold too often to be effective in the NBA and he is nowhere near athletic enough to score in other ways at the next level. He can barely even do it against college teams. But when he knocks down his first few shots he stays hot an that's where he thrives. If he has an insane shooting year next season he will probably get the chance.

Tre is coming back. Rashid Gastin is eligible. Several mocks have the Muskies in the top 6 and expect them to be even better than last season(Rothstein has them at #4).

I could see them losing a couple more games, but being better overall and making a deeper run. I wish the summer would fly by so we could get back to the NFL and then CBB.

Practice has finally started!
Bluiett appears to be in the best shape he's been. Evidently he got a lot of feedback (read criticism) from the NBA scouts about his body type, and has taken it to heart.
Lots of newbies, so I'm a little lost as far as how everything is gonna mesh. As usual, X should be a work in progress throughout the year and improve as they go.
I'm a little concerned about the post position. Otherwise, X should be in great shape.

Jones is going to be a big time project, but I have faith in Mack and I know he sees the potential, that's why they offered him, obviously.

Hearing Wilkes is leaning toward Indiana or UCLA at the moment and there's a chance his visit to X won't even happen.

According to both Rivals and Scout guys, Scruggs is definitely coming to X and they are totally baffled at the fact he hasn't committed yet. I read that a commitment should be coming soon.

Think it would be the right choice for him as Sumner is almost certainly gone next season barring an injury

Point guard Paul Scruggs commits to X. ESPN rates him as the best X recruit since they started their recruiting database in 2007.
Even with Sumner probably leaving early, I think Mack has covered the PG issue.
