Just a reminder that JH Wrestlers had to wrestle at Regionals to qualify for State. However a JH Wrestlers can walk up to wrestle in the high school division.

How competitive is the JH tournament compared to OAC?

How competitive is the HS tournament as a whole? How big are brackets?

Many JH wrestlers do both tournaments. Competition is roughly the same, slightly different weight classes.
As a whole the HS tournament is very competitive, some smaller brackets but VERY good competition in the past. We expect the high school side to grow quite a bit this year as many kids think it would be fun to go to MI and see some different kids semi close to home.

I wouldn't call competition quite the same. Comparing JH Ohioways regionals qualifiers and the OAC brackets I don't see many OAC JH placers names showing up. I am interested to see which high school kids come out and attend. Hopefully it's runs better than the last 2 I been too.

Over the past couple of years the JH have not had to qualify at a regional event, they made that change this year. In the past there would be quite a few OAC placers attend. This year with state duals conflicts as well as some of the regional events not being promoted until late in the game there were some people who may not have realized they had to qualify at regionals. Things should really pick back up next year for jh as everyone should be on the same page.

So it sounds like you are quite aware the competition is not the same. I highly doubt there will be any 48 man brackets there.

There have been years and weight classes where the competition was comparable. Numbers in a bracket doesn't necessarily make it 'better.' You would agree? No?
It's no secret that OAC is the measuring stick. Why the, 'line in the sand?'

We attended OAC every year since kindergarten. We have been to OurWay once and Ohioway twice (third time this weekend). The two are very different in many ways. For example, many kids end the season by wrestling at OAC. Many kids attend Ohioway to open a door for future NuWAY events. My son had an open day, so we are going.

People moan and grown about the ages of some OAC wrestlers due to the tourney being grade-based. OHIOWAY is age-based. Junior high will see some single holdbacks, but doubles will have aged out. My son has about 8-10 state qualifiers in his bracket. One of them placed at OAC this past weekend, and my son hopes to "verse" him to see the result.

Not having 48 wrestlers in a bracket is a plus. This tourney should be done pretty quickly. Also, OAC was "in the barn" when my son first qualified in kindergarten and so he wanted to go back and finish there too.

It's really about just getting the experience when you have the time and hanging with buddies he may not see all summer. We can, so we will. No need to hate on an opportunity.

At the end of the day, we are another opportunity for Ohio wrestlers to compete and shine both here at home and on a national stage. Both are excellent opportunities for Ohio youth and contribute greatly to why Ohio is consistently a top wrestling state.

No one would argue with that. Just like no one would compare each respective s middle school competition
