Rumors

I used to go to West G but live in Columbus now. Article below gives a good breakdown:

http://www.geaugamapleleaf.com/sport...auga-football/

I knew Cirino when we were 7 and he graduated with me. Eric Stendalen, the guy mentioned in the article, is also a classmate of mine. He's the main candidate. Interestingly, their AD is also a WG alum. It's becoming less common to have alums come back and teach/coach like they used to.

West G has had some interesting graduates: They had a guy named Anthony Lima graduate--he's now on the Ken Carman show on 92.3 The Fan. It's more of a basketball school though and has been since the '80s, although Rosati's run in '99-06, plus the current success, has made it more balanced. Their football team is very good but they are in a tough conference. Chagrin is their main rival.

Their former coach, Matt Rosati, was Coach Lou's mentor and, as can be seen in this article, saved Lou's life.
http://highschoolsports.cleveland.co...t-of-the-beat/

It should be interesting to see what happens. The town was upset when Rosati left in '07 and when Bors left in '10, but was pleased as punch when they welcomed Coach Lou back home. They value tradition and their coaching legacies. It's an interesting dynamic.

I'm sorry, but I can't see westg passing the coaching rank to a Cirino protégé.

Why not? They've had success with Cirino and Rosati dating back to '96. Bors/Hewitt are Chardon and they had success with them as well. So I'd like to think either branch would work.
Have a great day!

Interestingly in the Strongsville thread there's mention that the school and program itself are supposedly beaten and run down--Cirino as a rebuilder a la Harbs at scUM? Harbaugh turned it around at UM and they are good again. Although sources have said he still lives in Chester and just moved there, so long commute.

O-H...!

Stendalen might be a great guy and can
be on new staff. But I would think the powers that be. Would be looking at making a splash on a new hire. They only get one shot at this. I hope they can get a highly qualified coach. Or an assistant coach from a power team.
It seems to me this is a premium job.
Nobody else has any insight on westg?
I realize we are just a small town. But what a great community. Close to the everything. Great place to raise a family.
These are football parents in this forum. Please pass on westg Coach opening!

Not really.

You had a grad that was well liked running the shop with some success and he sought and applied for what is basically a cluster f situation in Strongsville, why would he leave this premium job then?!? Maybe better pay was involved but how much that could allure him from a comfortable situation at his Alma Mater? The thing about Chesterland is it has a lot of Murray Hill characteristics that have moved down Mayfield Rd out to the country and unless you are ingrained in that culture there are challenges to dealing with the kids and their families.

One last thing, comparing Cirino to Harbaugh is not on same level.
Harbaugh took a team to Super Bowl.
I've only been in West g. For 5 years but from what I'm told under Cirino they have only won , ONE playoff game in 9 years. So branching off that tree could lead to problems. When you come back to westg let me know, love to here some old West g stories.

Good point auggie! On make up of community. A little stereotypical but understandable. But I still stand by the fact it's a good community in a small football town. I do believe Cirino could be going into hornets nest in Strongsville as well. I'm sure it was the Challenge of a bigger program and more money. But I must give Cirino props for choosing the harder road.
He could have stayed at West g for life.

I don't know much about Rosati,
Is he quality coach?
He's got to be older, he's at Perry?

Cirino was 32-20 the last 5 years with two playoff appearances, which isn't too shabby. Not sure how long he was at West Geauga but 4 playoff appearances in 9 years is a heck of an accomplishment at DII/DIII school. Looks like the roster is light for the coming years, unless I am missing something?? How are the facilities at West Geauga?

People confused why he would take the strongsville job. Yeah the program isnt great but teaching in that district is.

I am not sure what he was making at West G but looking at the records through the state website. They had him listed in 2015 making $47,900+ a year with his masters. Now lets give that a boost over a couple of years, so this year he was maybe making between $55k-$60K with his teacher contract. In one of the articles that talked about his move that the strongsville board was going to be voting on his teaching contract for next year that was going to be $72,000+. That is a huge jump in pay. West G guy but he has to start thinking about his future. Just got married, most likely gonna have kinds, and it sets up better for his retirement, when that times come

Yeah not you.

Read that it might be that assistant but who knows.

It won't be Rosati. He won't leave Perry. Better paying district and his kids are in HS or close to being in HS. I dont think he would want to pull them out. His team is going to be loaded next year with talent. He has that program built up pretty well.

I also believe if West G's QB didnt transfer out, Seastruck or whatever his name was, the team would of done a lot better this year. That kid was pretty good in '15. Its a shame he transfer to try and ride the coattails of that WR.

I think they should look to hire from the outside IMO

I would not look to hire within the wg program. No one there is capable of raising the bar. The bar at wg has never been set high. A playoff win should be the norm not a success. Anybody but a wg alum will be a better option.

John carroll coach sounds intriguing
If a guy makes it to that level, he must be talented.
Not sure about Madison coach, but they have had a nice little run.

Bad hire at West g, means lake Catholic gets 2,3 stud athletes a year from westg borders

Agreed, NDCL and lake Catholic have been robbing this school district for years of talent. But the trend will continue. If not a competent head coach.

Rosati isnt leaving Perry to go back to West G. He wont be leaving the kind of talent he has next year. Zero chance of Rosati going back to West G

It's been over a week, have not heard of a interview, although that may be a legal issue with the union? Teachers I hear get first dibs!
