Thimble tossed! Game piece voted out of Monopoly board game

Quote:
Monopoly fans cast four million votes last month to decide which of the board game’s classic eight tokens should stay around — and which gets the ax.

The results are in: Say goodbye to the thimble.

This means that the thimble token — which has been around since 1935 — won’t be included in the next version of the classic Monopoly board game slated to hit stores this fall.

The thimble’s fate is the result of an online vote Monopoly parent Hasbro held last month at VoteMonopoly.com, marking the first time in Monopoly’s 82-year history that Hasbro crowdsourced the future of the game.

Voters were faced with a choice: Should Hasbro replace some — or all — of the traditional game pieces like the top hat and shoe with more culturally relevant items like a hashtag, emoji or computer?

Most people under 40 have no clue what a thimble is. Hell my grandpa could sow.

I'm just surprised that it lasted this long. Apparently the iron went away 3-4 years ago.

An outrage; you could use the thimble for a mini-shot glass. Just a sign of the times, I guess. Now, if they voted the lead pipe out of Clue, there would be a fight for sure.

I collect game tokens, not just from Monopoly.

I can sew enough to replace a button.
The only sowing I've ever done was re-seeding part of the lawn.

Cannon. Not really sure what Freud would say about that. Racecar or battleship would be OK too.

Where I find them...
Usually at flea-markets and Thrift stores;wont pay more than a couple of $
for the complete game.

Most are displayed on the hall wall leading to my Den in a
Printer's Tray (with a clear plexi-glass cover).

From Lemony Snicket's - The Perilous Parlor Board Game
Pewter/Metal Token Pieces

Several years ago Johnny Lightning came out with a series of
Monopoly themed cars (1/64 scale) each car game with a
matching 'game token'

Here's some go vr-oom, vr-ooom ...

Clue ~ Along with all the normal weapons and orginial pawns...
the 'Character' tokens...

and the set of these from 'Clue'...

~~~~~
I also collect Ace's of Spades from Card Decks: I use the rest of the cards
as targets (shoot the pips out).
no count as of yet today.
Johnny Lightning .... that brings back memories. Worst racing set I ever owned. Either you launched them too hard and they flew off the track, or not hard enough, and they never made it all the away around the to the launcher to keep going. But it did look cool!
My first real case of buyer's remorse was the $19.99 + tax I dropped on this -
Thank God Mom didn't make me get the helmet and goggles. I am pizzed at Penney's now, for evidently raising the price on me!!
Never understood the popularity of the lead pipe, but it did have a certain understated elegance - I suppose...
I preferred Thundershift 500. As long as you used the right hot wheel that did not have a low back end it worked great unless you have poor eye/hand coordination.
The cannon and wheelbarrow were always the absolute worst. They always fell over.
Meet the New Monopoly Tokens: A Rubber Ducky, a T-rex and a Penguin
Quote:
The Scottie dog, top hat, roadster car, cat, and battleship tokens will return. But the boot got the boot, and so did the wheelbarrow and the thimble.
Get the Morning Briefing by Email
The three tokens will be replaced with a Tyrannosaurus rex, a rubber ducky and a penguin, the company said. The announcement came just before World Monopoly Day on Sunday.
