I'm sorry I should have said outside of the Cowboys as both Jerry and the city had a great plan on how they would use the stadium to pay for itself instead of "let's build it and then we'll figure it out". The great thing about AT&T is they use it for so many other events that could only be done with a domed stadium. What else can a stadium in Las Vegas be used for? The NCAA sure as heck won't hold major tournament games there and there's tons of other places to see a concert or showSo how does the community benefit from a stadium that will be used 15 times a year?

The Raiders will most likely be paying for much of it. Keep ignoring that if you want.

According to ESPN's article today the tax payers would still be asked to pony up $750 million which by public school education would be just under half the cost the Raiders and other private businesses have pledged to pay.

The project cost is $1.33 billion.

$500 million would come from the Raiders.

$150 million would from a casino group.

The remaining $680 million would be paid for via a tourist tax of some kind.

LV residents would pay $0

LV had over 42 million people visit last year. If they managed to get $2 out of half of them, the tax would cover the cost of the stadium in around 15 years.

I was thinking more of a flat rate per night stayed in a hotel? I don't know how many rooms are rented out per year and what rate they'd need to cover costs. I'd be interested in knowing what the casinos stance is on a tourist tax?

I believe something that would help the Raiders if they truly want to move there is if they can get the NFL to consider them for a Super Bowl. I'd imagine a Super Bowl actually being in LV would be one of their top weekends in the history of casinos.

Wife and I go to Las Vegas four or five times a year. Usually stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. Even with rooms being comped, we still pay a $31.50 a day "resort fee". Add a dollar to that and that would probably be a good chunk of the needed funding.

Goldman Sachs now pulling out of it. Seems like Mark Davis was trying to play hardball with Adelson, Adelson told him to eat $hit, and now it's really backfiring on the Raiders. Kind of amusing

Well it looks like this is back on again, with up to three lame duck seasons in Oakland before the Raiders move

Seems to me this is kind of a shaky deal and I'm not sure why other NFL owners would approve it. Better to stay in Oakland at this point or just have the Raiders play at Levi's Stadium, which is actually a shorter drive from Oakland than San Fran

It's pretty funny that he thinks he has all this power because of his dad, then he basically gets laughed at by every other owner in the League

Really a shame for Oakland. Hope the fans make the remaining two years in Oakland as much of a fiasco as possible

A completely empty stadium should be their goal.

I mean it'd be one thing for the Raiders to move in like 2011 when they still sucked azz, but for the fans to stay loyal throughout the Jamarcus Russell and Heyward-Bey years, then to have the team ripped away from them when they finally turn into a SB contender is just peak NFL cronyism. In thirty years when soccer has surpassed the NFL, this is one of the things I'll point to as the reason why. Eat a dck Roger

The dumbest financial move was not keeping the raiders in LA for the NFL. That was the perfect fit

Yes and no ... the fans where great, but the stadium is a dump and has been for a long time. They were unwilling to do anything to improve it, so it was just a matter of time.

People get upset when cities give money to help build stadiums ... why is that any different than the massive tax cuts given to large manufacturers? Manufacterers are given tax breaks all the time, to keep jobs in the area, the city of Oakland should have done something to keep them there ... the Mayor of Oakland is proud they did nothing to keep them in Oakland ... I don't feel bad for them ... the fans who supported them, yes ... the politicians no.

Yeah, really dumb of a city near bankruptcy to not give their NFL team $700M to build a new stadium so the team can make more money.

If soccer became that big, they would act exactly like the NFL when it comes to govt handouts. They try now.
Crew stadium, built with private funds[basically, Lamar Hunt] now asks for govt funding to improve the stadium and wants govt funding to build a new one.
Only 3 MLS stadiums were built with private funds, the rest all had govt funding involved, with Portland's 100% govt funded stadium having the largest percentage of govt funding.

It would not cost that much ... Saving relocation fees & cost would make it cheaper to stay in Oakland ... Say 400M to 500M, which they would make up in state and local taxes over the next 15 to 20 years.

I agree it's ridiculous. But even then MLS stadiums rarely cost over about $300M and have 17+ home games a year. The entire cost of renovations for the Portland Timbers' stadium was still only $36M.

That's $500 million that could have either been saved completely or devoted to something else. On top of that the city and county still owe $180M from the last time they renovated the coliseum twenty five years ago. Blows my mind how the simple rules of economics somehow do not apply in these situations
