Question Excel question

I don't have a formula question... Looking for suggestions on a good Excel message board to discuss advanced topics centered around PowerPivot/DAX. Through Googling those topics I've found threads from a lot of message boards but the slant is pretty heavy towards technical users. I'm hoping someone knows a more business-savvy site.

Sidenote: If you're good at Excel, I highly recommend you start try to learn PowerPivot. It's incredible and Microsoft PowerBI basically runs on the same engine... And that is incredible/worth your time as well.

It's not nearly as active as the general excel forum but the Mr Excel website message board has a decent Power BI forum.

Most important program on my computer, it should be mandatory for everyone in college to take a basic class in excel and this includes folks majoring in things like Art or English. You never know if you are going to need it and you look like a fool if you cannot work a basic spreadsheet.

My team had a full-day CPE class last year and our power user did the two-day class. He seconds MB's MrExcel recommendation. Very powerful tool that's so much more robust than legacy PowerPivot. Another great tool is Excel's Visual Basic, which I have been teaching myself.

I will check out the PowerBI forums at MrExcel.

I'm slowing teaching myself Visual Basic as well. 99.99% of my skills with Excel, PowerPivot, PowerQuery, VBA and PowerBI have come from Googling stuff and watching YouTube videos.

Yeah, it's sort of taboo to bring up VBA in the dev world, but you can do some really cool things in Excel when combining with VBA and SQL

Agree! Even HR, and more-so, Marketing folks should have this skill. On the other hand, I can't brag at all about my Word "abilities". Probably because I often use Excel (narratives, procedures, etc.) when I should be using Word...

Tableau was mentioned a couple of times in a Big Data class today. One other one, but I can't remember the name. And, of course Excel's Data tool. And, a fast review of Stats 101. My head started to hurt.

What does Tableau offer beyond what you can do in PowerBI?

Lately a good chunk of the advertisements I see on my social media timelines are for various analytics/dashboard/software packages. I've looked at them but in corporate setting the Microsoft tie-in is huge and I really haven't seen any dashboards more visually appeals than what I'm doing in PowerBI. If there is something better out there though, I'd love to know about it.

Even for small business I think PowerBI is gold. If anyone runs their small business on Excel spreadsheets: PM me. I can build a data model for you in a couple days and I'll show you the demo for free. You will be blown away.
