Reroute 77 from before Akron to Strasburg using the existing right of way that is RT 21. Then make existing 77 into an extended RT 8 that merges into 77 at strasburg.

Same basic route, but you change the rules to allow what you want.

If you look at a map it makes a lot of sense if it was designed that way to begin with.... then again, it would make sense for RT 30 to be a highway all the way to Pittsburgh too, but that's not happening any time soon either.
Exactly. 21 WAS the route between Cleveland and points south before the interstates. It was building the interstate that Canton wanted it there since Massillon already had 21 (and it was upgraded to mostly freeway from downtown north to 77 by Akron. Through traffic would move through Massillon as a straight shot and avoid Akron entirely. But, just with Canton, Akron wanted another major interstate to go through town.

Rumor is that Canton has put in a bid for the 2018-19 Stagg Bowls (D3 championships). If the NCAA is really open to moving the game, the Canton bid will blow Salem, VA out of the water

Would be nice to be able to watch Mount in a Championship game (if they make it)

For the most part, the Detroit bid looks great, but the title games would really lose their intrigue and unique aspect if they're just lumping D2 and D3 together. Based on scheduling, it would be on different weekends (unless something changes with scheduling or Detroit just really wants two games in one day or two games in two days). Either way, your game isn't special.

Salem's general prevailing reason is that it's a bit further south and that's good for mid-December. But, it's still inland in a rather hilly/mountainous area. The Delaware OH bid just doesn't seem plausible.

If the OHSAA games go back to Canton permanently, it just seems like Canton could suffer from title game burnout and if it's not Mount Union (or another nearby Ohio school) would basically not turn out at all. For what it's worth, Salem has turned out a bit for a neutral perspective until it became a wall of purple with Mount Union and Whitewater so frequently in attendance.

But, the two Ohio picks get the best leverage in that D3 is a predominantly midwest through northeast division. Further south and west, and D3 football schools are few and far between. In the great plains, most schools this size playing football are in NAIA (Dakota, Heartland), or simply have bailed on football at all (a lot of schools eligible around California). Odds are, the mileage to Canton or Delaware will be much shorter for teams playing in the title games. For every Linfield or Mary Hardin Baylor, there's a lot more schools around Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Nice to see Tom Benson Stadium get the D3 Football Championship in 2020 and 2021. Should be a great event.

Gotta admit that the goal posts on each side of I-77 holding up power lines look pretty cool.

Interesting that '18 and '19 they're going to a temporary home in Shenandoah, Texas. The NCAA hasn't really planned on 'short term' venues for lower level championships usually. Instead, they like to move only once they've found a relatively stable long-term venue choice now.

D2 only moved from Florence, Alabama to Kansas City, Kansas, D-1 moved a while ago from Chattanooga to Frisco, Texas. They'd been in Florence for a long time, and in Chattanooga since '97 or '98 if memory serves me. And the longest host, easily, has been the Stagg Bowl at Salem. The only longer tenured host would probably be the baseball D1 tournament in Omaha.

Big deal that Canton gets it. Do a good job, and it might be a few decades before they even consider moving it.

Selby Stadium: great facility.

Delaware, OH: not an adequate city for hosting.

Great to see the Stagg Bowl has found a future home in Ohio. Whatever the Stagg Bowl were to miss out on by not being in Delaware, it will more than make up for by being played at Tom Benson Stadium and in the city of Canton.

I'm confident Canton will do a good job. I'm less confident they will care for the weather in Canton in mid-December.

The NCAA also awarded a D3 Men's Volleyball Final Four to the Hall of Fame's new arena so, I guess, they are moving forward with building a facility to host the Charge and other events.

That has to be bad news of the Civic Center and the Fieldhouse. The Civic Center because it is direct competition and it is takings its biggest tenant and the Fieldhouse because a new arena just down the hill will negate many of the arguments to remodel it/gut it and pour millions into it in the next decade (and it is going to need it).

The city should have replaced the CC years ago. I don't like putting an new "arena" at the HOF though.

The Field House will not go anywhere.
It belongs to CCS, not HOFVillage.
Their new 6,000 seat arena is going to be multi-purpose and hosting the draft here is a prime reason of its existence for the 100th NFL anniversary and possibly beyond.
Dan Gilbert (Quicken Loans) want to manage the new arena from what I've heard.
Don't confuse Canton City Schools and the HOF Village beyond the new stadium because they are very much separate entities with the deals that have been made.
