Week #3 Mason @ Winton Woods

I was waiting for someone from Mason to start this thread, but here we go.

Winton Woods return to the friendly confines of Forest Park to battle the Mason Comets, a team that stomped a hole into the behinds of Winton Woods last season.

Both teams are coming off disappointing losses and are 1-1. This is a big game because the loser drops to1-2 and will be battling for a post season spot. This is a tough game that I think favors Mason. Mason seems to a little at odds with one another and the Warriors play hard, so you never know.

Mason must control the LOS and stop the WW running game up the middle. DL and LB's have to step it up from last week. 5-7 yards a carry again won't get it done. On offense White has to be able to get outside and Hutchinson needs to be able to roll out to look for receivers in the flats. Running between the tackles is going to be a luxury against WW but if Mason can loosen them up they may have some opportunities with the counter or inside reverse. O line has to step it up against possibly the best defensive front they'll see all year. If it were me, I'd run no huddle on WW as long as possible to wear those big boys and two way players out early.

I really think this game will come down to turnovers and special teams. If Mason can possibly get up by a couple TD's early they'll take the fight out of WW.

Both these posts are good assessments of what could transpire and what needs to take place for Mason to win. If WW does not turn the ball over, we better defend the run up the middle. We have covered the outside runs fairly well thus far. I agree with a statement you made the other day, DS needs to get on the field! Defense better tackle, cause with the athleticism of WW you miss a tackle and they will be gone.

WW does not have any two way players.

I got Mason 35-28 over Winton Woods, but i also think it can go either way with whoever has the ball last.

I would be shocked if the Warriors follow last week's performance by giving up 35 points this week.

Uh, no way Woods gives up 35 points. If they lose it will be a low scoring game.

Game day. Please Warriors, cover the HB out the backfield on pass plays. Not too much worried about the offense putting points on the board. Just protect the football and keep the penalties down and we will score.

Actually I thought it went pretty well! All kidding aside and I'm not complaining, but why on earth with a 21-0 lead did WW abandon the run after the first quarter?? Mason wasn't stopping them and they just started passing with no success! In fact the less successful they were, the more they passed!

Congrats to Masons Nick Pierson!! A Pick 6 and a 80 yard TD kickoff return!! Also Jarred Besecker with a Pick 6! The boys fought like champions tonight and definetly did themselves proud! As much as I hammered them last week they sure made up for it tonight!! CONGRATS COMETS!!!

Actually 20 of those points came via two pick six and a kickoff return.

2 years? This staff may not have that long. Sometimes people get on me for what I say on WW but many of my opinions are true. What a melt down!!!

You mean from the 5-4 team? Still believe in these "coaches" that they will do the job? How many penalties, bad snaps blown assignments last night? Pops always says if you can do better go apply. Well I might, because Parker has lowered the bar so far it would be easy to look better than him.

Well, it doesn't get any easier the next three weeks - Colerain, at Fairfield, and East.

Yeah, ya think! Plus the Cards come in next week after losing to LaSalle wanting some serious payback! If the Comets show up who played the last three quarters last night they have a good chance in all 3 of those games.

Uh my goal is to be all knowing and intelligent as you are . Im sure you knew Woods would run the ball down Masons throat, get out 21-0, and then all of a sudden sling the ball all over the field for 2 pick sixes and give up a kickoff return for a touch. If you weren't slapping Woods, what school were you talking about. Uh, hindsight is 20 20 isn't it for you monday morning I told you so only you didn't guys.

Mason finally played with some emotion. But to be honest this was one of the worst WW teams I have seen, and this was by far the worst team Mason has seen this year. Hopefully this emotion stays with them because they are going to need it next week. It showed to me that they weren't going to quit because I thought Mason was going to give up the season by the end of the first quarter. They proved me wrong.

Too be fair most Mason fans knew Mason was going to be more athletic and faster than WW and WW was going to be bigger and stronger. This isn't the traditional Mason team build. Its all about speed and discipline not power and discipline.

I don't get how teams still don't defend the double hand off, let alone let two go for huge gains.
