Darby D-1 District Rankings (Off-Season #2)

Iíve started moving wrestlers around from the weights that they wrestled last year. Some of the weight shifts are based off of where the wrestlers have been competing in the off-season, some is based off of people sending me line-ups. Some of the changes are based off of how the wrestlers have grown over the last few years. A lot of the movement is pure guesswork.
I welcome any insight into where wrestlers will or may be competing next season, because I know that Iím going to be way off on many wrestlers, especially this time of year.

I paired the freshmen with the school that they were listed at on the Yappi thread about middle school state placers. If there was more than one possible school listed, I took a guess.
If there are any freshmen listed at the wrong school, feel free to let me know. Also, if there are any other wrestlers who have transferred, decided not to wrestle next year, or graduated (but I mistakenly left them in the rankings), please let me know.

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

* = unsure about participation or availability

106-
1. Bo Branson- Pickerington C. (SQ)
2. Zander Graham- Teays Valley (4th middle school state)
3. Colton Spurgeon- Mt. Vernon
4. Charles Williams- Lincoln
5. Dylan Le- Scioto
6. Gabe Ohle- Westerville N.
7. Jacob Hutsler- Lancaster
8. Taryn Martin- (Olentangy) Orange

Ohle wrestled at this weight at the Disney Duals, though there was a 5 pound weight allowance.
I expect Hutsler to climb higher, but itís hard to rank him based off of last season. He was undersized after wrestling 78-pounds in middle school in 2017. Hopefully, heís grown into the weight over this off-season.

113-
1. Logan Agin- Lancaster (3rd, 4th state)
2. James Baumann- Coffman (5th district)
3. Deacon Sawchuk- Bradley (SQ)
4. Sky Wisecarver- Tri-Valley (SQ)
5. Daniel Beam- Upper Arlington
6. Jackson Moses- Olentangy
7. Braden Rennie- Watkins Mem.
8. Teraun Dunseth- Davidson

Agin wrestled at this weight at the junior duals. Baumann has wrestled at 120 during the freestyle season, so itís possible that he stays up there.

120-
1. Jacob Sherman- Olentangy (4th state)
2. Mitch Herren- Upper Arlington (8th state)
3. Jacob Reed- Lancaster (SQ)
4. Cole Jackson- (Olentangy) Orange (6th district)
5. Trevor Mangahas- Pickerington C. (6th district 2017)
6. Juan Porras- Lincoln
7. Michael Jones- Marysville
8. Edgar Cruz- Westland

Reed competed at this weight during the off-season, and I saw one tournament where Sherman was at 126, though Iíd guess that he makes his way back down to this weight.

126-
1. Ismael Ayoub- Coffman (2nd middle school state)
2. Aidan Agin- Lancaster (3rd middle school state)
3. Jesse Bowers- Upper Arlington (SQ)
4. Mitchell Coultas- Licking Hts. (5th district)
5. Christian Salazar- Lincoln (SQ)
6. Ryan Blackerby- Darby
7. Jameson Bigler- Marysville
8. Hudson Leapley- Central Crossing

Ayoub, Agin, and Salazar all wrestled this weight during the freestyle season. I believe Agin also made 120 at some point, but Iím guessing that Reed will be there.

132-
1. Joseph Eckelberry- Tri-Valley (SQ)
2. Kuric Buell- Worthington Kilbourne (SQ)
3. Blake Wright- Westerville N. (5th district 2017)
4. Cody Matthews- Mt. Vernon (3rd middle school state)
5. Jamal Llyod- Lincoln*
6. Cray Miller- Lancaster
7. Isaac Richards- Darby
8. Lincoln Heard- Marysville

Eckelberry wrestled up at 138 during the freestyle state tournament. Wright wrestled as high as 145, but he also competed at 132 at the recent Disney Duals (+5 pounds).

138-
1. Luke Geog- Upper Arlington (3rd middle school state 2017)
2. Blake Saito- (Olentangy) Liberty (8th, 7th state)
3. Mason Sparks- Marion Harding (SQ)
4. Zach Williams- Hayes (6th district, SQ 2017)
5. Rocco Torio- (Olentangy) Orange (SQ)
6. Brady Pethtel- Olentangy
7. Shaun Erryl Will- Marysville (6th middle school state)
8. Cole Younger- Teays Valley

Geog and Saito wrestled at this weight at the freestyle state tournament.

145-
1. Daniel Segura- Scioto (4th state)
2. Jacob Williams- Teays Valley (5th district)
3. Zander Ellison- Bradley (6th district, SQ 2017)
4. Nick Varanelli- Olentangy (5th district)
5. Joey Orlando- Upper Arlington (5th district)
6. Jared Droesch- Watkins Mem.
7. Justin Swavely- Grove City
8. Jayce Fitzpatrick- (Olentangy) Liberty

I saw results at this weight from Segura, Varanelli, and Droesch during the off-season, though someone may drop one the regular season starts. Fitzpatrick was at 138 at Disney with the 5 pound weight allowance.

152-
1. Walker Heard- Marysville (6th, 7th state)
2. Marcus Zullo- Pickerington C.
3. Hunter Barker- Grove City (SQ)
4. Luke DeWeese- Davidson (6th district)
5. Antonio Gonzalez- Coffman
6. Gage Hannan- Scioto (6th district)
7. Justin Callahan- (Olentangy) Liberty
8. Jade Batross- Newark

Heard and Gonzalez both competed at 160 during the off-season, so they may wind up wrestling up at that weight.

160-
1. Connor Brady- (Olentangy) Liberty (3rd state 2017, 4th state 2016)
2. Naeem Russell- Lima Senior (5th state)
3. Corbin May- Hayes (6th district)
4. Aaron Morton- Westerville S.
5. Caden Christ- Westerville N.
6. Noah Ratliff- Reynoldsburg
7. Zeke Healy- Westerville C.
8. Jeff Cameron- Watkins Mem.

Morton and Christ were both wrestling at this weight at one point or another during the off-season.

170-
1. Carson Kharchla- (Olentangy) Liberty (1st state)
2. Seth Shumate- Coffman (5th middle school state 2017)
3. Cole Foor- Watkins Mem. (SQ)
4. Max Van Fossen- Mt. Vernon (SQ)
5. Cody Wilson- Licking Hts.
6. Corey Hill- Olentangy
7. Sean Grim- St. Charles
8. Elliott Mahffey- Pickerington N.

Kharchla, Foor, Van Fossen, and Shumate all wrestled at this weight during the freestyle season.

182-
1. Lennox Wolak- Coffman (4th state)
2. Mitch Potterf- Westerville N. (7th state)
3. Mason Sutandar- Hayes (SQ)
4. Colton Doup- Olentangy (5th district)
5. Jake Nelson- Groveport-Madison (6th district)
6. Andrew Sherman- Westland (6th district)
7. Rodney Beneker- Darby
8. Peter Ackley- New Albany

Potterf and Sutandar both wrestled at this weight during the freestyle season. I saw results from Wolak at 195, so he may wind up at that weight.

195-
1. Deron Pulliam- Scioto (7th state)
2. Logan Painter- Marysville (5th district)
3. Jacob Goldsmith- Westerville N.
4. Jake Waldrop- Watkins Mem.*
5. Jack Wilson- New Albany (6th district)
6. Holden Freeman- Upper Arlington
7. Johnny Spinner- Olentangy*
8. R.J. Carpenter- Coffman

Pulliam wrestled at this weight during the off-season.

220-
1. Ethan Smeagal- Marysville (SQ)
2. Bernie Duran- Scioto (5th district)
3. Cole Maxson- Chillicothe
4. Max Lenz- Big Walnut
5. Kaden Tong- (Olentangy) Liberty (6th district)
6. Riley Ucker- Coffman (5th middle school state 2017)
7. Nick DeRose- Westerville C.
8. Ethan Hand- Olentangy

Ucker wrestled at this weight during the freestyle season. I may have severely underrated him, but weíll have to wait for the season to find out.

285-
1. Tyler Connolly- Marysville (5th state)
2. Jaden Smith- Teays Valley
3. Donovan Hardin- Scioto (6th district)
4. Eric Feng- Coffman
5. Brady Kuhn- (Olentangy) Liberty
6. Zack Stevenson- (Olentangy) Orange
7. Bobby Logan- Central Crossing*
8. Mitchell Gruber- Marion Harding

Feng wrestled at this weight during the off-season, as did Smeagal, though Iíd guess that Smeagal drops once the season starts with Connolly at 285.

Teams:
1. (Dublin) Coffman
2. Marysville
3. (Olentangy) Liberty
4. (Dublin) Scioto
5. Olentangy
6. Upper Arlington
7. Lancaster
8. Westerville N.

Coffman could have a district title team with the wrestlers that they have returning and the addition of talented freshmen Ucker, Shumate, and Ayoub.
Marysville will be deep as usual, Liberty will have some excellent top level wrestlers (as usual), and Scioto and Olentangy look like very good all round teams.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Inside the Circle for all of their great coverage and promotion of the Central District, Baumís Page and Jakeís Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

This will be a very good Delaware Hayes team this year.Coach Rieman & Coach Lamb have a very well stocked supply of wrestlers that can get on the podium at Darby.I look for them to put in the hard work to be a viable dual team as well. The expectations at Hayes have changed over the past 6 or more seasons & I feel confident saying they have a winning tradition nowadays.

A few things from the summer ....

Z. Graham (TV) may be 113
Wisecarver (Tri V) will be 106. He went 106 at JO and dont think he had to cut.
Salazar (Gah) was 113 for JO in Iowa beginning of Aug. That may be where he plans to go.
Geog (UA) is at St. Eds I hear
Saito (Lib) is at Perrysburg I hear.

Liam Plants went 8-2 in Iowa at JO @ 98. I think he is Licking Hts.

I’m curious to see if Williams (GL) can make 106 this year. He was wrestling as high as 132 this offseason at FS/GR State. Wrestled 123-125 recently at the Ohio State Fair Tournament. May have to go 120 if he can’t make 106 and can’t beat Salazar for 113.

I donít know the kid... but hopefully making 106 is not his focus if he is in fact 130+. If he truly weighs that much, his focus should be getting better, stronger, etc... not cutting 26 pounds to chase a placement...

Max,

Again I posted this in the Perrysburg, Franklin Heights should be at Darby this year. I would imagine both them and Canal Winchester will go the different route. That being said, Jones and Fenice should be in the picture. Also Collin Maynard from Franklin Heights pinned Tong in the first period at DeSales last year just couldnít finish the season since he broke both hands in December. His only loss last year was Tanner Stevens.

Thanks for the updates. I may move all of the Central District wrestlers back into this district's rankings for the next set.
