The better seeded team will be the home team.

I don't know why. They still have a gym floor tucked in the back. It was a decent venue for school hoops.

There was an article in the Dispatch a few years back that explained very clearly that the Fairgrounds was charging the Central District outrageous amounts to play there. When 2 teams with very small crowds played, the District lost thousands of $$.

I'm wondering if the new Covelli Center at Ohio State would be an option. They say it will seat 3,700. Is that enough for the D1 crowds for a district final? I have no idea - just asking.

The fairgrounds no longer wanted to host the games so their solution was to jack the tent to outrageous amounts. The Covellinis unlikely to be made available by OSU. And while there was a lot of history at the fairgrounds, it was easily the worst venue in the state.

Man that place was a $hithole. Back when Athens was Division 1. Athens tried to move the games to the Convo. Athens was calling it a $hithole in 1969.

It’s funny how D1 played their district and regional games in HS gyms while Athens had D2, D3, and D4 games in a 14,000 seat arena

Great tradion but seldom upgraded the facilities. It really was a barn.
