Brush/Shaker game called for safety issues

In a highly anticipate matchup for both communities, the game was unfortunately deemed unsafe to continue after halftime. Brush was leading at halftime, 39-29. No, I wasn't there. In following the videos on Twitter, you could tell the place was getting pretty electric and rowdy.

This kind of thing has never happened to either program in their respective league. For whatever reason, the combination of the two brought out the worst in some people in the stands. The kids lose out on finishing what they started. Too bad.

It's a good thing Shaker is leaving the GCC for the LEL. This kind of thing could never happen in the LEL...

Brush/Shaker game called for safety issues

But I thought shaker kids were all proper and on their best behavior all the time ? Mere victims of the mean white school kids who taunt them while the innocents turn the other cheek ..

Have fun in the lel where many of the games could risk ending up with crap like this

Sad day for area high school basketball. Coach Mason handled the situation with dignity and class. The whole thing was instigated by what appeared to be a person that was not a student.

Iíve heard of high school coaches that try to cancel games for safety before the game started but never during the game. Bball216, didnít Coach Babe at VASJ try to cancel the game with Euclid out of concern for safety?

But Shaker is leaving the GCC because of racial issues. LMAO

Can't make this stuff up.

Enjoy stuff like this happening often in the LEL in both football and basketball.

Anyone else remember when the Garfield Heights-Collinwood football game was cut off in the 3rd quarter a few years ago because of something like this happening?

But according to shaker, there are NEVER going to be racial issues in the LEL

I have ZERO dog in this fight, but what was racial about this game? And what does the Collinwood-Garfield Heights game have to do with the LEL.

Agreed. Racism has nothing to do with this. The point is that Shaker is trading one set of problems for some new ones...with safety being at the fore front.

Shaker and Cleveland Heights for a very long time played their basketball games on Saturday afternoons for this very reason.

Terrible to see this happen. All you can do is add additional measures to try to prevent issues like this going forward. Game time changes can be one of those. Too bad a great game was cut short. Let's hope this continues to be a rare occurrence.

It is interesting that certain elements of our society will litter, graphitti, and destroy the quality of life in so many small, and sometimes large ways.No respect for the city they live in.But place them at a sporting event that places their school against a neighboring school and all the sudden they have incredible civic pride and support their local burgh in a fight to the finish. If it makes it that far.

Last years Brush vs. East Tech playoff game at Brush had police on the court separating the teams and fans.I thought there was going to be a riot that night last March 2018.If not for the finality of the situation(playoff game) they might have cancelled it and finished it in an empty gym.

About 10 years ago at a Euclid /Hts LEL game two cheerleaders from opposite schools feuding and it ended with a fight and a knife involved. They dis-allowed cheerleaders at the return match up at Hts.and played the game in the afternoon to avoid another problem.

Garfield is a former and future LEL member. That's why it's relevant.

You all missed the point. Shaker wants to cry wolf about having racial problems in the GCC (when we all know that's not why they are leaving), yet they have things like this happen at their basketball games. I'm surprised the AD and administration at Shaker haven't put out a statement crying about Brush yet. They already threw 7 other schools under the bus when leaving the GCC, why not add Brush to the list?

Let's not play dumb here. Things like this aren't happening in outer ring suburbs and beyond. When was the last time a basketball game was cancelled at half-time because of fighting outside of Cuyahoga County? If anyone knows, I would love to know. These schools need to get their teams and fans under control instead of crying about other schools being "racist".

Race is always a delicate issue and it often offends people on both sides. Many of these games are played by kids who know each other off the court - sometimes in a good way and sometimes not so good. The fans and players get up for these games more then they would for say a Strongsville, Brunswick, Stow, etc game (example). I'm many of the games I have seen the games are chippy from the start and that chippyness carries over to the fans and cheerleaders which in turn creates a volatile atmosphere. In most cases the games are allowed to get out of hand by the officials and that irritates the players and fans even more. Once the game is out of control there is no getting it back. In these kind of games the officials need to call early fouls when warranted - even technicals. The unruly fans need to be warned and removed if need be. The longer things are allowed to ferment the worse it gets and you get what happened last night.

But I thought we need to "LET 'EM PLAY!!!!"

And when fans are removed people will come on Yappi and complain about how "soft" society is.

Wow, they couldn't just remove the people who instigated whatever happened. I've been to games where fans were getting out of control....and once they see one guy walked out by the police things to settle down some. Seems odd that they would do it during halftime, instead of at least trying to start the game back up....

I underestimated you Cleveland folk. You guys are clearly 'bout that life. Secondly, the officials, with help from the police, could have cleared everyone out the gym and finish with no fans. I've seen that happen before. So was this scored as an official game, or will it be made up later?

I never understood why people would protest during the very song that gave them the right TO protest. Kind of an ironic isn't it?

How you can possibly lay this at the feet of the game officials baffles me. For one, once there is a fight, disturbance, ruckus, whatever you wanna call it, in the stands, that's on safety forces and game administration. The game officials aren't in a position, nor should they be, to dictate the gym being cleared or if and when the game will be resumed.

Goodbye!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy the LEL and the rest of the afternoon games that will be played like the Senate league. Entitled with no parental control. The girls are straight bordering on braindead with their language, and attitude. Most don't care or comprehend what's taking place on the court anyway.Mouthy and attitudish.Eff political correctness.Idiots sitting for the anthem means they don't deserve political correctness.Just the truth. Drain on society.
