Lowellville beats Springfield. Rockets probably cement their top 4 seed in Struthers, and very very likely the 2nd seed (#1 seed over Springfield may be in play if they win and Springfield loses on Friday)

McDonald and Ridge take care of business over Reserve and Milton

Waterloo over Sebring, 53-31. It wasn't pretty.

Thanks only score I didnít see yet. So Waterloo can clinch the outright league title beating Springfield Friday. They can still get a share with a loss by beating WR on the 15th.

1- Waterloo - 10-2 (14-3)

2- Springfield - 10-3 (14-3)

3- Lowellville - 9-4 (13-5)

4- McDonald- 8-5 (10-7)

5- Mineral Ridge – 7-6 (12-8)

6- Sebring – 5-8 (10-9)

7- Western Reserve – 2-10 (4-13)

8- Jackson-Milton - 0-13 (2-15)

Results of note in the Struthers district is Southern winning over Edison and Wellsville losing to Oak Glen. The records of the top 7 in Struthers to the best of my knowledge are:
Springfield 14-3
Lowellville 13-5
Wellsville 11-7
Southern 11-6 (they were scheduled to play Toronto 2/1 but I can’t find a score, was it cancelled?)
McDonald 10-7
Sebring 10-9
Lisbon 9-8

I don't see the Toronto score either...I can't see why they wouldn't have played Friday. Unless it got moved to a boys/girls varsity only night.

McDonald beats Lowellville 72-54. Pretty much a 15-20 point game throughout, Rockets never really threatened. Great effort from McDonald, 4 guys in double figures

Waterloo clinches the outright league championship with a 51-40 win over Springfield. Ridge gets by Sebring by 2. Reserve also beats Milton.

1- Waterloo - 11-2 (15-3)

2- Springfield - 10-4 (15-4)

T3- Lowellville - 9-5 (14-6)

T3 McDonald- 9-5 (12-7)

5- Mineral Ridge – 8-6 (13-8)

6- Sebring – 5-9 (11-10)

7- Western Reserve – 3-10 (5-14)

8- Jackson-Milton - 0-14 (3-16)

And the records for the top teams in the Struthers district as we head into the closing of voting tomorrow at noon and brackets on Sunday.
Springfield 14-4
Lowellville 13-6
Southern 12-6
McDonald 11-7
Wellsville 11-8
Sebring 10-10
Lisbon 9-9

I’d say with Wellsville’s skid the last week the top 4 is probably set, it’ll be interesting how 2-4 shakes out voting wise with McDonald having a sweep over Lowellville, but rockets and southern having better records

Brackets are out:

Struthers District seeding:
1- Springfield
Hosts winner of 9 East Canton at 8 St Thomas Aquinas

2- McDonald
Hosts winner of 10 Jackson-Milton at 7 Wellsville

3- Lowellville
Hosts winner of 11 Leetonia at 6 Southern

4- Sebring
Hosts winner of 12 Heartland Christian at 5 Lisbon

Pretty surprised all top 4 seeds were MVAC, didn’t think Sebring would get one

In D3
Waterloo in the Salem district gets the #1 seed and hosts winner of Fairless at United
Reserve in the same district gets the 11 and plays at Valley Christian in sectional semi-final

Mineral Ridge #6 in Warren hosts Campbell in sectional semi final and with a win would travel to Champion.

Good luck to all in tournament play

I guess taking Toronto to OT helped Lisbon more than I thought...even though some of the coaches had probably voted before Friday night.

Well even before that Lisbon had probably been the hottest team on a nice win streak with wins over Southern and Wellsville. I think you mentioned it earlier, thereís going to be some good matchups across the board in the sectional final.

Curious...and since I'm lazy...did Sebring have any big wins? Didn't they upset one of the top MVAC schools?

Also, with them being 10-10...they only have (2) games left over the next 2+ weeks...that would be a concern IMO.

Yes you are correct. In fact they beat both the #1 and 3 seeds in this sectional/district and with the exception of the most recent Waterloo game (#1 seed in Salem) they have had leads late into the 3rd and 4th quarters of most if not all the rest of the games lost. A rebound or foul shot here and there and the record looks much better than 10-10. However, they can also, as proven by the Western Reserve game, be open to upset by nearly anyone too if they don't come with their shoes tied up tightly. The 4 seed they got is probably due to the fact that they beat Springfield and Lowellville so they got the MVAC vote plus word on the street is the teams not affiliated with either the MVAC or EOAL voted Sebring higher. That is all just rumor that I've heard though it did come from multiple trusted (to me) soruces.

The Trojans travel to Leetonia tomorrow night, then don't play again until the 22nd, hosting Campbell Memorial. Hopefully, the Trojans shoes are tied up tightly.

Well learn something new every day. I did not know they made the voting available to the public. It's nice to see a level of transparency somewhere.

It was 34-30 Springfield at halftime...Lisbon actually had the lead quite a bit in the first half.

Springfield is good and shot the lights out...Lisbon didn't shoot well (thanks Mr. Obvious).

The context makes it a little better, but still only 10 points in the 2nd half for Lisbon. The good thing for Lisbon is they may get a shot at a rematch in a couple weeks (gotta beat Heartland and Sebring first).

Updated the league records in the last post with them, all 5 MVAC teams in action won last night (Springfield, Lowellville, McDonald, Sebring, and even Milton). The last league game is this Friday though nothing will change no matter the result.

Notable games involving MVAC teams that I know of:
(15-5) Chaney at McDonald 2/15
Ridge at (13-4) Py Valley 2/16
Lowellville at (9-10)Struthers 2/19
(10-9) Girard at Springfield 2/19
McDonald at (10-9) Girard 2/20
(15-3) Labrae at Springfield 2/22
McDonald at (13-4) Valley Christian 2/22

No doubt...just one of those nights. Tough stretch for Lisbon to finish the season too. Toronto, Springfield and then Malvern on Tuesday. They've gotten a chance to see some different styles of play and still have a chance to make some noise late in the year.

Good to hear! Always nice to be on GOTW. Side note, Iím really happy to see Chaney have such a successful season in their return, coupled with Eastís football run its been a great year for Youngstown city sports

They aren't in the MVAC, but I think it's their last year in the league they're in.
