Springfield is probably the favorite, they got some good players coming back from a good team last year. McDonald and Lowellville are in the next cut just behind the Tigers. Mid-pack I think will find Waterloo and Ridge being improved. Reserve will have the biggest drop-off as I think they graduated 8 or so contributors from last year.

McDonald should be a one man show with rasile. Losing Poole is going to hurt

I’m not sure what to make of the team and how good they’ll be. Rasile will obviously be lead guy offensively and think defensively they should be better than in past years with a lot more speed and athleticism. Rebounding and half-Court O will be big concerns

Ouch!!! McDonald lost 70-59 to Waterloo at home. I didn't go to the game. Did Devils have key guys miss the game or as I fear is it gonna be a down year for the Devils?

I think Waterloo is much improved. They beat the Gmen by 34 and their write up in the record courier seems that they have high hopes

Waterloo has a nice team, wouldn’t be surprised to see them win the league. Lots of height and they got 2 big transfers. McDonald led after 3 but they had no offense besides Rasile and played with no identity, all over the place. I think as the season goes on they have the potential to be pretty good, but another tough game friday at Springfield and then JFK next week.

Rasile scores 43 in loss to Niles...Devils are 2-4...Coach Rasile getting frustrated...he not used to this...but I don't think this is the right approach to turn things around. He is quoted as saying this in Vindicator...
"The biggest frustration is that we’re not getting a fair effort from every player on this team. If they don’t want to play, they shouldn’t play. We’ve never begged anyone to be a part of this team, and we’re not going to start begging now.”
Maybe it would be best to look in the mirror first before throwing the kids under the bus!!!

Maybe someone can help, since the new rules, will their transfers be eligible the whole season?
If so, what exception did Waterloo use?

Nothing against the kids, and I feel bad for them, but I’m finally happy Rasiles system is catching up to him. Of course they’ve never begged anyone to play because he never lets anyone to play to begin with. Now the younger levels are finally coming up and all the athletes that should be playing basketball aren’t anymore. One of these kids even helped Ridge beat Mcdonald.

Agreed those are comments that shouldn’t be said to the media, even if you think that it shouldn’t leave the locker room. The thing is, I think the one thing about this team is that they do give the effort, and always scrap to stay in games (they’ve also led in the 2nd half of every game).
Congrats to Zach, becoming the schools all time scoring leader. He’ll set a mark that will stand for a long long time

No clue, just what I read from their preview in the Record-Courier. Maybe they moved into the district. I believe both came from Field.

Thus far into the schedule, Springfield and Waterloo look to be well above the others.
JM is the only team that looks like they are completely out of their element.
Don't be surprised if WR knocks off someone in the middle.

Can Sebring win a game or 2 against Springfield, Waterloo or Lowellville?

I wasn't able to attend the game vs. Springfield, but I heard the Trojans played well. Springfield is very talented and it would be a big upset.
They haven't played Waterloo, yet, but I imagine that Springfield may be the only team that can match up.
I think the Trojans have a good shot at beating Lowellville at home. It depends upon which Trojan team shows up.
Sebring still has four tough match ups against a dangerous McDonald squad and a much improved Mineral Ridge team.

McDonald was able to beat Sebring 70-58, 1’s were you there to give a report? Good win for McDonald against a solid Sebring team.
Other where Ridge was able to take Springfield to OT before falling 88-84. Good effort from the Rams against unbeaten Springfield.
WKBN posted standings earlier this week (I added tonight’s results)
Springfield – 5-0 (8-0)
Waterloo – 5-0 (7-0)
Lowellville – 4-1 (6-1)
Mineral Ridge – 2-3 (6-3)
Sebring – 2-3 (6-4)
McDonald – 2-3 (3-4)
Jackson-Milton – 0-5 (1-7)
Western Reserve – 0-5 (1-8)

I was there. It was a game of runs, back and forth, until late in the fourth quarter. Sebring actually led by one heading into the fourth. As in the previous Trojan losses, they struggled in the fourth quarter. The Trojans limited Rasile until the fourth quarter, when he made 10 Fts and, I think, four conventional fgs. #11 hurt the Trojans, as did #10. The Trojans struggled from the line and missed some makable shots. In the end, Mcd did what they had to, to win.
They Trojans head to undefeated Waterloo on Tuesday.

Thanks for the report, the 4th Quarter has been a big issue for McDonald as well, they’ve led in the 4th in 3 of their 4 losses. It’s good to hear others stepping up to lead the way, look forward to the Trojans visiting later in the season, lots of good matchups in the MVAC this year.

Waterloo really only has one transfer. The other 2 kids are Waterloo kids who open enrolled to Field. They have always lived in the district, they just decided to come back.

Updated standings to the best of my knowledge
Springfield – 6-0 (10-0)
Waterloo – 6-0 (8-1)
Lowellville – 4-2 (6-2)
Mineral Ridge – 3-3 (7-3)
McDonald- 3-3 (4-4)
Sebring – 2-4 (6-5)
Jackson-Milton – 0-6 (1-8)
Western Reserve – 0-6 (1-9)
Tomorrow night is a battle for 1st place, with Waterloo traveling to Springfield. McDonald hosts Lowellville in a key matchup for the next tier.

That's what I finally heard the other night. The starting PG and the big kid left Waterloo, went to Field, then returned.

Maybe you should find those officials Brook used against EP and Bingham to guarantee a win, 111411. Had to rattle the chain.

McDonald had a nice 19 point 4th quarter lead cut to 6 before they pulled away from Lowellville to win by 9

Definitely the best win of the year from McDonald. Rasile took over in the 3rd quarter and ended up scoring 48.
Waterloo was able to go to Springfield and beat the Tigers by 11 to take sole possession of first place. Ridge beat Sebring by 1 in a mid pack battle and WR got their first league win over Milton.
Standings as we head to the 2nd half of the league year as I believe everyone has played each other now:
1- Waterloo - 7-0 (9-1)
2- Springfield – 6-1 (10-1)
T3- Mineral Ridge – 4-3 (9-3)
T3- Lowellville - 4-3 (6-3)
T3- McDonald- 4-3 (6-4)
6- Sebring – 2-5 (6-6)
7- Western Reserve – 1-6 (2-9)
8- Jackson-Milton - 0-7 (1-9)

A back and forth game at Sebring. 76-75. Sebring had a look at the end, but it wouldn't drop. The Trojans went 11/19 from the line.
Ridge has a nice team. Class act on the sidelines from Coach Hughes. Nice to see that from a young coach. #23 is a heck of a player. Ridge hit some clutch shots when Sebring could've put them away.
