The most points Iíve heard of a CCC player scoring is Matt Witt at Bethel. Iím not sure if he ever hit 50 though. I think he had 49.

Short handed Arcanum Falls to North
Arcanum dropped a hard fought game on the road at TCN. The North gym is small and in that confined space the crowd is loud. It was a packed gym with the stands near capacity. And there was...

It was an interesting opening weekend of league play. 2 of the teams that I thought would compete for the league title went down in Arcanum and Ansonia. It sounds like Arcanum was playing short handed per the above article but I don't know anything about the Ansonia game. I do know that both of those teams have new coaches this season, and I don't know if that came into play at all. Neither team is out of the running as we have a lot of season left.

Both teams came out flat. Think it as 4 minutes in before first points scored. Ansonia had the lead for all but 2.1 seconds in the game. One of our normal high scorers who averaged close to 15 last year had 3 points. Also a bunch of missed free throws.

Think you are correct on Witt. That was 2001-2002 season vs Mississinawa.

We are through the first couple weeks of the season. What's everyone's thoughts so far?

I think the league is still pretty wide open and there are a lot of teams beating each other up to start the season. A lot of potential contenders already have one loss and we have had some huge individual performances like the Conley dropping 54 points vs. Houston.

I'm kind of surprised about FM. I thought they'd have a better showing to date than what we've seen. Are they really just a one man show?

If you have a player big enough and athletic enough to shut down Ethan they are beatable. We had our 6'4" guard on him all night. Our played scored 1 point and everyone called him the player of the game. The second half he was face guarding the whole time and Conley still had 13 but the rest of the team didn't step up.

FM has been a surprise for me so far this year. Not so much that Ansonia was able to beat them and slow down Conley, but the loss to Newton on Tuesday night. I haven't seen Newton, but from their other games this year they seemed to be struggling, and I don't believe they have a lot of height.

After tying the game on a buzzer beater by Carter Gray just before halftime, the Trojans would go on a run coming out of the locker room and break the game open with hot shooting and a stingy defense to pull ahead with a lead that they would not.....

The CCC is a bit down this year. I am really surprised at Arcanum. They had some good young players I thought. Injuries?

I'm really unsure on Arcanum. I really thought this was the year that Arcanum would make a lot of noise with a good Senior and Junior class. I know they had a coaching change going into this year, as well as a few injuries that I'm sure contributed to them struggling a bit. I believe they are still 9-4 though, which isn't terrible, they just have more league losses than I would have thought at this point. I think they could be dangerous finishing off the season.

I do think the league is a bit down though, there are no teams like Bethel had the past 2 seasons. There are still some solid teams like National Trail (10-2) and TVS (9-2), that are both better this year than in years past. It's just the teams like FM and Arcanum that you expected to be a little better this year that have struggled that lead me to believe the league is down some. Aside from that everything else is pretty much as I would have thought.

Panthers Pummel Patriots

The Twin Valley South Panthers are ensconced at the top the CCC and there is a reason for that – multiple weapons on offense and a stout defense. The visiting Patriots received a full draught of what the Panthers were capable of on Friday...

Current standings with roughly 3-4 weeks of the season left. Which I believe these standings could be a game or two off, in terms of overall record. The CCC site is not very good. I'm very sure that this matches the league standings, atleast at the top.
Note: The first 2 numbers are the league record, the 3rd/4th number is overall record.

Thanks for the updates. You are absolutely correct about the CCC site, it is very lacking. That needs to be fixed as many college recruiters like to follow along from the internet rather than take the time required to place calls and attend games until they have reached the point where they conclude they are very interested.

CCC has certainly struggled out of conference this year.

I agree, the common site that most conferences use like the SWBL or GWOC seems to make the most sense. I don't know why the CCC hasn't gone to that.

As for the out of conference, I can only speak to a couple of the teams that I'm most familiar with right now, but TVS and National Trail are both 5-0 out of conference. One of the losses TVS has is against Trail in a tip off tournament. That's not saying their out of conference schedule has been that strong. I also know Bethel has some decent out of conference wins, atleast they seemed decent at the time, with Bellbrook and Tippecanoe.

Taking Bethel as the subject, it may be that the Metro Buckeye has improved more than the CCC has declined.
Bethel lost to Troy Christian and narrowly won by 3 points vs a rather poor MBC team in Dayton Christian Tuesday evening. Troy Christian has lost two MBC conference games but has wins over Mississinawa, Franklin Monroe, Bethel and Miami East.

I think all of the CCC teams you mentioned are either not as good as we expected, or they are just in slight decline. Bethel especially, after losing that Senior class last year, and I think everyone knew they'd take a step back some. FM just isn't living up to the hype and of the 4 teams you mentioned, I expect all of them will be middle to bottom half of the league in standings by the seasons end.

CCC Could be done as we know it.

https://www.earlybirdpaper.com/count...ty-conference/

This would leave the Darke & Preble schools at 9.
I dont see it as a bad idea really, but I believe it would be a weaker conference than the CCC is now.

YakYak - that is a good point - expansion makes so much more sense. Having a 2 division conference would make a lot more sense. Sort of like what the SWBL does now with a big school division and a small school division.

I agree with this completely. I'd rather see that happen, split into divisions, and add a couple teams if they wanted to join if anything. Then you can split accordingly.

Current standings with less than 2 weeks left in the season. Most teams have 2-3 league games left, so things are really shaping up. I also believe the tournament draw is this weekend, so the season is definitely winding down.
Note: The first 2 numbers are the league record, the 3rd/4th number is overall record.

TVS clinched atleast a share of the CCC title last night. If they beat Arcanum on Friday, they will have the league title outright. A TVS loss followed by Trail winning at FM would give TVS/Trail a share of the title.

The tournament draw is today and it will be interesting to see how that goes.

Below is the final league standings. Congrats to TVS on being the league champs this season. Good luck to all teams as tournament play begins this weekend. It would be nice to see a team or two from the conference go on a tournament run, but I don't think it's very likely this year. I guess we will wait and see.
Note: The first 2 numbers are the league record, the 3rd/4th number is overall record.

Honestly in regards to Sags, I think there is a chance he could return. Tri Village is about to have another big wave of talent coming into the system. Their Freshman class all the way down to the 4/5th grade classes all are very promising. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sags back involved with that. I had originally thought the new coach would be around for a while, and I think he's done OK with the low talent level that he's had. But I've heard there has been people in the community not happy with how things have been going, and because of that it may open the door for Sags.

If that would happen it would be interesting to see if the community remembers the hazing incidents and how that was handled his last season as coach. They weren't supporting him that year as evidenced by embarrassingly low turnouts in the tournament games for a school that typically packs the house.

Personally, I think its wrong to get rid of the current coach right now. He didn't have much talent when he took over the reins and has done well. Give him a chance with some real talent coming up to see what can happen.
