Seems to be a growing theme with some schools fan base. The adults and students choose to sit for the National Anthem. That is fine that is their choice - it's one that I don't or ever will support. If you choose to sit you should do so quietly and respectfully. I see people laughing, playing on their phones, eating or carrying on conversations - that is why I have an issue. Most of them don't even know why they are sitting other then it's the IN thing to do.

If you sit or your fans sit I have zero respect for you or your school and wish them nothing but the worst of luck during the game. If you want respect it starts by giving proper respect.

After the games I go to, there are usually many young kids running and having fun on the gym floor. This one ended with the presence of a K-9 police dog.

That is very sad to see. And as stated, not even sitting quietly. What is up with our youth?

There are people that think that this country gave them a raw deal. For the most part, it was their parents that did not care enough.

It has become a little more common. Total lack of respect of our country and what makes it great. They are not smart or educated enough to understand. They are entitled and unfortunately it will continue because they think they are owed something.

The police department, based on what was happening on the floor and in the stands made the decision to end the contest. Once they recommend termination, it's out of the officials' and school administrator's hands.

I'm neutral but thanks to this thread I really hope Brush and Shaker finish well this year. This thread is a joke and the fact there are adults here judging the kids and community based on one jerk is ridiculous. This is why Shaker is leaving the LEL and justifiably so.

This whole thread is a lot of the reason why this country is divided, and will stay divided. I personally stand for the anthem, but I totally understand and respect people who sit. Not everybody has had the same experiences in this country. To say they are not smart or educated enough to understand is a ridiculous statement. Trust me they fully know and understand why they sit

Please don't judge an entire community for a couple of knuckleheads actions. For example I was at a game in the Cincinnati area a few weeks back. When a fan of the home team called one of the visiting players a monkey. I didn't judge the whole community off of this one cornball actions. Fans who were sitting next to him got him kicked out of the game

Vike16 - in regards to the anthem people have the right to sit if they choose. Many men and woman have given the ultimate sacrifice for that right. While our country is far from perfect it's still our country and its the greatest in the World. If they want people to respect their right to sit then they damn well better respect our right to stand. You should sit respectfully during the anthem and not be talking loud, laughing, playing on your phone or whatever other nonsense they do as a sign of disrespect. That is my problem. I have seen people sit and hold hands, close their eyes in thought or just respectfully sit still - that is fine and it's their God given right. The ones that sit and cause a disturbance do not deserve respect and should be looked down upon - reguardless of age. People want respect but they do not want to give any respect - sorry it does not work that way. Just like you cannot judge an entire community off the actions of a few - you cannot judge all the police, politicians and others that serve because of the actions of a few knuckleheads.

I totally agree that if you sit you should be respectful. But my issue was with the poster's calling them uneducated and not understanding why they are sitting. Most people who sit don't hate all cops, it's the the few cops that most people fell they should be in jail for killing unarmed citizens

Police and administration wouldn't end the game because of "one jerk." Let's be real here. Open your eyes one time dude.

BTW, Shaker is leaving the GCC and joining the LEL because they couldn't hang in the GCC anymore so they'd rather beat up on Shaw and Warrensville every year instead of playing Euclid and Mentor. Get your facts straight.

If you are neutral then it should not matter to you how those teams finish the year. But if you get behind their efforts then do so for another reason. To support them over this thread is pointless. This thread is yappi members right to express their opinions for the disrespect those students and young men were showing that night.Durring the game and Anthem.Sorry ,that does not make your twisted up reality anymore proper than those kids at the game.I have a fact for you and it MAY serve you well going forward...……….You are responsible for the image you project towards other people. You can put your best foot forward and represent both your community and your parents and make yourself look like part of the solution or part of the problem. If you were dropped out of the sky and landed in that gym without knowing anything what would your honest opinion be about that community? If you want us to view you in the proper light then please tell us what that light is and better yet give us the light to make that happen.Life is easier than some make it.Im glad Shaker is leaving. You can continue feeling sorry for yourself.I'll continue watching basketball with the rest of us PROUD AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry vike, yes the rights and freedoms are 100%. In this case we are talking about two "public" schools. Safe to assume the majority of those sitting students attend one of the public schools. Those public schools are supported and paid for by whom?? Those sitting students are receiving an opportunity for an education by the tax paying people of our great country. So do I think they really understand, no I don't, they are lacking an understanding. When they are working tax paying citizens go ahead and sit, until then show a little respect for the opportunity to live in a free country with free public education. (Not free for working tax payers)

I dont think it's wrong to look at the new LEL and speculate what might happen. You are going to have several teams that have adjoining communities playing each other. There has been issues in years past not only in basketball but football as well with these schools. I have been to games not only between several of these schools but games in which one of the competing teams was from the newly formatted LEL. There is always something more then just excitement in the air. There is a feeling like something can go down at anytime either on the court or in the stands. I know even at games played at Euclid High School (a place I feel comfortable at usually) we leave a bit early at times to avoid any post game incidents in the parking lot.

Its not a matter of IF something happens in this new LEL but rather WHEN. You will have packed gyms with teams and fans that dislike each other competing for neighborhood bragging rights - not good.

At last nights Benedictine / Garfield Hts basketball game, about 10 minutes before tip-off, announcement was made. All Garfield Hts students were told that they had to sit in the student section which are the stands on the far baseline and if any students were seen in the home section would be escorted out of the gym. A second announcement was made half way the fourth quarter directing the Garfield fans to use on exit of the gym and the Benedictine fans to use another exit. I've been to other venues where you had to go through metal detectors before entering the building.
These are sad statements of today's society.

I mean most of the schools in the LEL have been there before. Shaker and Garfield were in the past. Incidents will happen There really isn't a question about that.

I'd rather Mentor be independent than to have to deal with how some of those communities behave and how they deal with education. Not to mention them being bad athletic programs

Shaker made all these accusations on racial matters in the GCC so it's only right to point out when the school or company misbehaves. You reap what you sow.

They have smart ones too. I've met mr red raider. He's a nice guy who knows his stuff. The administration with their comments lost a lot of respect though

I have coached in 2 leagues with Mentor and Shaker and have seen our players and fans treated better at Shaker than Mentor. The arrogance of some (not all) Mentor fans is worse and more insulting than the racial insinuations you are making!

I'm not making any racial insinuations. I'm commenting on what Shaker hts accused the GCC members of doing while also saying in the same press release that their kids always turned the other cheek ..

Of course that was just a diversion tactic and card pulled to cover up them getting stomped in most sports besides basketball.
That's why they want out
