Cardinal Mooney 2017

I couldn't find a thread for the Cards so let's here about what 2017 will be like and what we can expect.

Mooney should be ok at QB with Page returning to take snaps behind a pretty good size line but the question mark will be who will lug the ball with the (2) big backs Hewlett and Anderson lost to graduation. On the defensive side of the ball, I think the front 7 will be solid (watch Vinnie Gentile this year--BEAST) but the secondary is very young and could be a problem unless they mature very quickly.

It should be a pretty interesting year especially opening with (5) of their first (6) games all on the road. This team will need to come together very quickly against some great competition.

8/25 @ Cleveland Heights
9/1 @ Akron Hoban
9/8 @ Columbus De Sales
9/15 @ Akron St. V's
9/22 @ Boardman
9/29 St Joseph Collegiate Institute-NY
10/7 @ Akron Buchtel
10/13 Warren Harding
10/20 Ursuline
10/27 Austintown Fitch

Based on that schedule, I predict 7-3 and a trip to playoffs where they will make a good run. Hoban and SVSM are games where Mooney is underdog, Boardman, Fitch and Ursuline are tossup games and other 5 are all wins. That schedule will certainly have them ready for week 11.

...the only one I can remember right now is Chris Gruber. I would think they might use Dan Simko at FB, but who knows for sure.

Who was the main RB for the 2014 Mooney freshman team, now would be a senior? I remember going to Boardman-Mooney freshman game in 2014 and that kid was huge. It looked like Jerome Bettis out there with HS kids. I thought that kid would be a beast, but guess he didn't really progress or was maxed out on size early on.

explains why he was so big compared to the other kids. Kind of a joke really... having 13-14 year old freshmen competing against a 16 year old.

Girard Hubbard week 2 lmao. Mooney should not have a problem making week 11, just matters where they end up with big red in the region now

Yup

He's not the first though and won't be the last

Those are the rules though

Just part of why high school sports make almost no sense at all

If football went by birth year like every other sport on the planet does, we might see some very different results and also see 19-20 year olds actually play against 19-20 year olds instead of 15-17 year olds

There's no magic for academic emergency. Good kids from good families are not going to pass on a private school voucher to stay at east if urban Meyer was there. It's not like these schools are close, east is a whole other world. We're talking the worst district in the state. Kids that can leave will.

He could go there perhaps with an understanding that he'd be the future head coach at Chaney when they start up with football again. Even though the bread and butter days of the solid west side are long gone, as they're all at Ursuline, Mooney, or Fitch now...

I wonder how bad Glenville was before Ginn.

...I heard that story and could only be a rumor (we'll never know), but you see how those things get started, and very sad if true for the families. I know similar things have happened like this it the past at other valley schools between teachers, AD's and students and probably will again...the only ones that suffer are the families and loved ones.
