Battery charges against Caleb Brantley have been dropped.

http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/case-br...ry?id=47467895

Quote:
(Florida) State's Attorney in Gainesville said there was, "no reliable evidence upon which an arrest or prosecution would be warranted or legally justified," and that the matter is now closed.

"In essence, the facts suggest that the alleged victim's friends engaged Brantley in an unpleasant verbal exchange, during which the alleged victim began to physically punch or assault Brantley, causing him to shove her away," the news release said. "It is legally clear that under Florida's stand your ground law Brantley had the legal right to defend himself by pushing away someone who was punching and assaulting him. While it may not be popularly approved of or morally appropriate, that the alleged victim is a female of smaller stature than he, does not change that."......

....."Based on our information, we understood there was a reasonable chance that the charges would be dismissed," (Sashi) Brown said in a statement Wednesday. "As we have previously discussed, the allegations made regarding the incident were not something we take lightly. Caleb understands that we have an expectation and standard for every member of our organization. He's a talented young man with a great opportunity in front of him. Caleb must grow as a person from this situation. He is now able to move forward and focus on earning a spot on this roster."
Excellent move in snatching up this 2nd or 3rd round talent in the 6th. Unlike a 27 year old failed pitcher with a #22 pick, this is the kind of gambling I like to see.

The comments section drilling Doug Lesmerises (below the article) is pretty funny.

I like that. Gregg Williams may get that 1st round talent to live up to original expectations.

Great move on browns part.. Demario Davis was old and didnt really have a role in this new scheme thought Pryor was pretty decent his first 2 years.

The Cleveland Browns waived safety Tyvis Powell on Friday, just hours before he was scheduled to throw out the first pitch at a Chicago White Sox-Cleveland Indians game at Progressive Field.

Had a little free time so I went back and watched three ND games ... came away semi impressed with DeShone Kizer. Yes, he sometimes over throws (over strides) WR ... and yes, sometimes he is bothered by extreme pressure (ND's o-line was bad), but this kid has emense talent ... he makes some unbelievable throws ... I like Cody Kessler, but he does not have this kind of arm talent. To me it is not IF Kizer plays, but WHEN.

He's obviously bright as well.

It's just a matter of the ability to deal with the speed and pressure, and the amount of "want to".

8-8 or 9-7 this season, likely not good enough for the playoffs this year but next I see the browns making a playoff push.

The only way I want to see them win more than 4 games is if it is with DeShone Kizer as a bona fide star QB. No fool's gold, no average Andrew, but a real star. The QBs likely to be available next year are going to cost big if we have to trade up too far.

That sounds like fun for one season, but a recipe for football hell long term. That's how you become Sh1tzinati!!

Actually, that sounds like we'd better draft very well with the stockpile of picks we are sitting on, and then we can dodge the bullet instead of becoming Sh1tzinati.

I went up to the Orange and Brown Scrimmage. What the hell, it was free. The defense is flying all over the place, both pre and post snap. They will be improved. The offense is shaky. The line was okay, but no one stood out at QB. I'm amused at how fast the media is starting to build a quarterback controversy, pushing to move Kizer up the depth chart prematurely. He's nowhere near ready. Kessler looked like...Kessler, with nearly everything a checkdown while Osweiler looked great one play and and like Osweiler the next.

If this team makes a huge improvement, they will win 4 or 5 games. I can't fathom anything beyond that and see them losing a bunch of low scoring games.

Playoffs next year and one-and-done like the Bungles seems like even money......

.....hopefully not 0-7 in the playoffs over a 25 year stretch like the Bengals

A 4-12 year in '17 will give us high picks and the weak schedule that might make a 9-7 possible in '18. The Norf figures to be down - missing a retired Ben, Marvin may be fired, and the Ravens still in cap hell with Flacco. If it's also an easy NFC division next season, there's a decent shot at the playoffs for Cleveland next year.

Haven't the Browns had high picks in the past? Are you really jazzed for another? Probably.

How many times do you have to be told that Neo is not from Cincinnati nor a Cincinnati fan? Talk about insecurity.

The talk among those at the workouts is that even Kevin Hogan looked better than Kessler. Kessler has had most of the first team reps.
