2017 Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers placed the franchise tag on LeVeon Bell and have made progress with signing Antonio Brown long term. Sources say they are hoping to have that deal done by March 9th

Hope there's a clause in the contract about keeping his yap shut and not doing anything stupid.

i think they are also hoping to get a deal done with Bell. i think they have until July 15(not sure if that's a deadline or something but felt like i read that date somewhere in regards to Bell and a long term deal). i think they wanna wait and see how the FA RB market shakes out and then try to nail something down.

I hope that they can get something done and Bell can remain healthy. Normally I wouldn't value a RB by putting too much money in his basket but he can be an elite player who you can also put out wide and have a pretty good receiver.

My concern is that 2 big contracts will limit what the Steelers can do in other areas.

Brandon Marshall wants to play for the Steelers and the Steelers are apparently interested in Pryor. Seems like they want to have some options in case Bryant is denied reinstatement.

i read the Steelers have ZERO interest in Pryor. and i concur.

Marshall would be a nice addition, though.

They have zero interest in Pryor at 10m a year. I expect someone will pay him at least that. I doubt Pryor will give the Steelers a Hometown Discount.

I don't know that the Steelers especially need another WR if Bryant can return with his head on straight (big if). Right now that have AB, Ayers/ Cobi Hamilton (both played well in last 6 games of the season), Coates and Bey. Probably want to pick up another WR somewhere in the draft, 4th round on. You can get lucky late at that position.

we all know what FA period means for the Steelers.

they don't do anything, if just to re-sign a few of their own UFA.

once every 5-7 years they sign someone noteworthy, but never a guy that was the "hot commodity" on the market.

Not sure who's going to be around next year of the group you mentioned. let's assume Bryant comes back, is healthy, and doesn't get suspended.

So, now you have AB, Bryant, Rogers as locks.

Wheaton will be gone, most likely. Ayers/Hamilton/Coates - i'm gonna guess that ONE of them makes it - these guys did NOT step late in the season as they all had chances to make huge plays in the playoffs and dropped balls instead. DHB could stick around as well because he's valuable on ST.

they will draft another in the late rounds to compete with this group as well.

we shall see.

Depends on if Coates was really bothered by a hand injury last season or if it was just a convenient excuse for all of his drops. Coates can be a solid 3-4 but he has to catch the damn ball.

Forgot about Rogers. You are right about the drops. At crunch time they didn't make the plays for the most part. Still think Ayers/Hamilton have potential. Crusaders is right about Coates. He is lacking in ball skills, has to learn to attack the ball when its in his vicinity and doesn't adjust well.

Definitely needed an OLB. Not sure TJ Watt will be the answer but we'll see. My gut says Jarvis Jones part deux.

Juju Smith-Schuster - Biggish WR (6'1", 215 lbs). Not really fast (4.51 40) but is physical, runs good routes, and uses his body well; sort of a shorter version of Mike Williams from Clemson.

I was surprised they took a WR in the 2nd round. I guess they wanted some insurance for Bryant and Coates.

Cameron Sutton - He's considered a press coverage, man-to-man type of CB. Being noted for having poor hand work as well as being on the smaller side weight-wise (188 lbs) and not really fast (4.52 40), I'm not sure how effective he'll be in the NFL playing that role. On top of it, he struggles to play zone. Hopefully I'm wrong but I can't help but think he's a bad fit for the Steelers.

James Connor - I like the player. He's quick for his size, he's physical, and he catches the ball well. But I don't like using a 3rd rounder for a #2 RB, especially one who likely would have been there in the 4th round, possibly even the 5th.

I'm hoping they can grab a TE, an ILB, and a QB tomorrow.

Couple things. Sutton wouldve been a higher pick had he not had his injury limit him to 6 games. GREAT value where they got him. Can play man and zone, and steelers are looking to play more man as noted last year with the drafting of Burns and Davis.

Also really like the Connor pick as they RB depth was lacking. This gives them a 1-2 punch that will be deadly when combined with the passing attack. All three picks were very good picks. heres to tomorrow bringing more value at LB and QB if the right guy is there

Sutton struggles a lot outside of man coverage. I don't expect him to do much as a rookie. Best case is he spends this year adding weight, learning how to play some zone, and improving his hands at the line because he's not fast enough to strictly be a man cover guy without pressing. His role will likely be exclusive coverage on slot guys and ST. I guess that's OK for a 3rd rounder.

Spending a 3rd on a guy who would have been there in the 4th and will get maybe 10 carries a game with mop up duty was not the best move the team has ever made. I think Connor has talent but they're not going to split carries between him and Bell. Just not happening. So again using the 3rd on him was a low value move.

If they don't get to draft a TE I wouldn't mind snagging Gary Barnidge. I don't trust Green to last a full season.

I was shocked that Cleveland just let Barnidge go. I assume that they must have tried to shop him around. The outright release was surprising.
