Smithville Smithies

I heard they are only dressing 30 kids 9th-12th. Can someone confirm this. What a shame if true. Back in the day Smithville was the program to model off of.

I recall 2002 when Pleasant defeated Smithville for the D5 state championship. Sad to see how far the program has slipped.

First sign of this was screwing Schrock!

He's doing good things as an assistant at Wooster now.

Didn't Smithville implement boys soccer this year? Or was last year the first season? Just one other sport to pull kids in another direction at an already small district.

I hate the soccer excuse.

Yes there are a few kids that would play football if soccer was not offered. But more kids are playing a sport in general which means they are not getting in trouble or sitting at home play video games.

Also as more schools add soccer that levels the field for everyone.

Solid week one win for Smithville over Tuslaw. Passing game was a big surprise! But to say the offensive line is a work in progress is an understatement! Hoping to see the Smithies ground game improve in week 2 against Triway!

Now fellas, we're not a soccer school even though we beat Waynedale 5-0. There is some truth in that too, many sports in a small school doesn't help. Smithville has 4 Boy's sports in the Fall: Cross country, Golf, Soccer and Football. They've been very good the last couple years in Golf and CC.

Any truth to the word I am hearing from a friend who is related to the people who run a nut company that Dan Miller will be taking the helm at Smithville if the Smithies fail to make the playoffs

He has been doing an absolutely amazing job as defensive coordinator at Mogadore
My friend says that he is solely responsible for the Wildcats recent success

I think smithville is getting in. They are going to go 8-2. Should be anywhere from 6-8 with that record.

It'll depend on other teams if Smithville is in at 8-2 (assuming the loss is to Dalton). I'd say it's 60-40 they get in at 8-2

Pop Corn

I believe Dan Miller is related to the pop corn people in wayne county. If you can believe the talks coming out of some garages in the area Dan Miller has a couple coaching options in the county. Let's not forget he was mentored by Coach Toot who is now at Northwestern. I am sure after this years close game with Smithville that Coach Toot would definitely reach out to an ex player that has turned Mogadore's defense into a jugernaut. Also, The Smithies will slip into the playoffs this year and will not make any coaching changes.

My guess is Coach Dan Miller is interested in moving up to Division 2 or higher. With his defensive resume and coaching contacts this may happen sooner than later.

What would be amazing is if the Smithies and Cats met in the playoffs. My oh my. I wonder which team would Coach Schrock and Toot root for in this matchup?

Smithville lost again. To lose to Doylestown when they are on a rebuilding year is not good. The phone in Magadore's gymnasium will be ringing soon to see if Dan A. Miller is willing to go back home.
I know all these coaches in wayne county only live a country mile from eachother.

Coach Toot better not hesitate if he wants his old player to join him as DC. Jump on your tractor and head on over to the Dan A Miller farm and have a talk.

By the way I am not sure if Dan Miller still lives in Smithville and commutes or has moved to Magadore.

Hey chopblock
I am hearing similar things about Dan Miller
My sources at the local Ford dealership and several factories in Wayne County are saying that behind the barn discussions are underway for Dan Miller's return to Smithville
His family has strong ties in the community
But my sources are saying Miller and his long time mentor Toot are a package deal

The D2 conversations are NOT about high school
Those discussions involve Division II or I college football
Dan Miller has an "in" at Notre Dame where a former player of his now coaches
People are confusing Schrock with Schrack

My sources are also saying that Coach Dan Miller has taken on increased responsibilities on top of his Defensive Coordinator duties

He is playing an instrumental role as the "real" offensive line coach
That fact was substantiated by a Ralph Nader tweet from Record Courier

Appears to be creating some internal strife among the coaching staff
Just another reason that Dan Miller will head to greener pastures to avoid the petty jealous of less affective coaches
